  1. I too keep thinking about the Reston video. Handgun bullets do weird things in a human body and meat hits don't take folks out of the fight. Critical, non-CNS hits give the perp a few more seconds to try to kill you. If I primarily carried a 5 shot snub, I'd practice a lot...doubtful I'll have time to reload. I would probably keep shooting until they were longer in my sight picture.
  2. A little more detail: Overnight to hotel, extended weekend trips with Mrs GtG Throw it in the trunk when appropriate. Not necessarily a get out of Dodge pack. With the gear retained from Scouting and boat ownership, I should be able to repurpose quite a few items. Cash? Repurpose, it's not being cheap, it's innovation in thriftiness.
  3. I received a Ogio laptop backpack. In my professional life, I'm not a backpack kind of guy, leather accessories are more my speed. Since I like to repurpose, this should work well. Need help on my kit. Please list common items I should stock, if you include a link to the product, I would appreciate it!
  4. Safe travels Doug, hope all is well! Mrs GtG headed off at 8am. A day off rarely results in sleeping past 630-645.
  5. With the workload of indoctrination, when is there time for consistent training on top of routine practice? Throwing out the liability conversation, continuos learning is a commitment in time and finances. I don't have SWAT-like training to proactively take the fight to an active shooter and not a fan of handgun vs. long gun. I would have to step my game to train in the environment I am most likely to use my firearm. In the other post, it was mentioned Wal-Mart partnered with Texas State University to create Avoid, Deny, Defend. It is the current Active Shooter video presented by LEO to financial institutions. At about 7:40, I gained additional justification for a good gun belt. From the LASP
  6. For me, a paid holiday. From Wiki The federal holiday honoring Washington was originally implemented by an Act of Congressin 1879 for government offices in Washington(20 Stat. 277) and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices (23 Stat. 516). As the first federal holiday to honor an American president, the holiday was celebrated on Washington's birthday under the Gregorian calendar, February 22.[24] On January 1, 1971, the federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.[25] This places it between February 15 and 21, which makes "Washington's Birthday" something of a misnomer, since it never occurs on Washington's actual birthday, February 22. (A rough analog of this phenomenon can be seen in Commonwealth realms, where the reigning monarch's official birthday is celebrated without regard to their actual date of birth.) I wonder how much they teach about the father of our country in schools today? Despite freeing his slaves, the simple fact of being a slave owner is not PC. Perhaps adding Lincoln to the mix helps balance PC? I recommend Jeff Shaara's Rise to Rebellion and The Glorious Cause for historical Revolutionary War fiction. A well done mini series is Turn; Wasshington's Spies on Netflix.
  7. Never occurred to me that anyone would do this...have an AR type, I am as low speed and under the radar with my long guns as with my handguns. Doing it for the legitimate reasons mentioned make sense. Having done a minor mod to a rail, some kind of finish does make a difference. You may want to reconsider chopping it off because you don't know how to swap out, are not aware low profile blocks exist or your closest gun buddies are as ignorant as you. Don't know how? YouTube? LGS? TGO? I'd start with TGO
  8. 3am, knows low employee presence, tools to access and make guns ready, loads two and working on a third. I have to agree, unusual behavior for a gun theft.
  9. Professing to be a Christian is easy, acting like one is slightly more challenging
  10. I don't think it's a secret that I partake in the opium of the masses, my particular addiction being Christianity. It is from that perspective I share my story. God created us to do stuff and be active He commands us to do that stuff and those activities to the best of our abilities and with a cheerful heart. Sometimes that stuff and those activities aren't fun or easy. But as obedient servants we should still follow God's commands to be faithful with the opportunities we have. Professionally, you may not have the drive, desire, or passion to do your best, give your best or be your best. And that's where I was Monday. Got to go to work, don't want to. Got to see clients, don't want to. You get paid, get out the door and remember God's command, be faithful with your current opportunity. Choose not to do it, the job I'm paid for that is, how is that any different from stealing? As I'm driving to my first appointment, I hear a preacher on Joy620 on your AM dial, talking about, "when Satan comes to get you" When we're weary, worn out, torn down, at our weakest, the negative thoughts and idleness set in. From a Christian perspective, the doubt of God's promises. The whisper of doubt comes from the father of lies (had to use it, it's a nice turn of phrase) From a non-Christian viewpoint with no concern about a higher power, how much time have you lost with equivalent non productive thoughts? My lesson, show a deeper love for God through being more faithful with the stuff and activities I must do, despite what I may want to do. I also learned by being faithful with the stuff and activities, it reduces those times I could be idle and open to the whispers of Satan. For non-Christians, a lesson in do the right thing all the time and by being active, there ain't much time wasted nor extra time to get into trouble with non productive activities. Keep fighting the good fight, do unto others, and keep your eye on the prize!
  11. BTW, having attended multiple active shooter seminars, and chatting LE off the clock, they will admit the media plastering the event to every feed and building the notoriety of the shooter can encourage others to carry out similar plans.
  12. Layered security at airports, check Layered security at government facilities, check Armed security for elected servants, check Private security for those who can afford it, check Personal security for those who exercise their 2A rights, check Key readers to enter hotel weight room to deter non guest access, check Schools, come on in? And yes, we have to paint the narrative of a troubled and mentally ill young man to maintain the focus on the evil of guns and how easy it is for the wrong people to obtain them. I do include MSM news sites in my daily research, it seems close to an anti-gun feeding frenzy out there...
  13. I can't, but read on the internet it happens from time to time...
  14. Having any new non reliable firearm sucks, it has to suck worse at your price point with all the extra hurdles for a suppressor. Free shipping will not repair the ding to their reputation nor make me run out and buy one at half price or less. Hope they get it right and you end up with what you paid for!
  15. Not to crack wise, but if you don't need ID to vote, EBT ain't on the real radar
  16. I am a Weird Al fan and stumbled across this gem...
  17. My buddy just re entered .44 mag land, specifically for .44 special I had no idea how flexible this caliber can be, especially from a reloading perspective.
  18. SIA in West Knox has a nice selection, assorted brands ranging from $1099 - $1499. Auto Ordanance and Fulton Armory are putting out nice modern Milspecs..
  19. I'm in the Raoul and hipower club, .30 is the way to go. I just downsized some 9mm from a 50 to a 30 and like magic, I had Hercules muscles. Have all that 7.62x25 I bought from BersaGuy plus some in a .50...metric ton I have 2 plastic 30s as a result of an ammo combo deal, no complaints.
  20. Definitely the range for picking a pistol. I would Google "best women's holster" and start doing research. Not a fan of off-body carry, you will set the bag down sometime. I think the Google search would reveal some fashion-wise fanny packs which may work for her preferred wardrobe. Has she considered future shooting and learning past the HCP process? Thanks for helping a fellow citizen enter the world of responsible gun ownership!
  21. I almost went to FSD, but ended up at SIA and paid more. Finding a decent LGS is tough; Scott and his team have met my expectations as a paying customer and exceed when I'm tire kicking. They stock the consumables I use at slightly higher than WM, and rotate some neat new and used guns through inventory. I did get to handle a CZ Shadow fresh from CZC, even nicer than my SDP.
  22. Just saw an advert for the Walther PPQ SC. Double stack with higher capacity mag compatibility. Overall height of 4.4" I'm curious
  23. I don't own any Remington firearms, but reading reviews of their failures in the budget poly handgun arena with the capital investment to build, market and distribute coupled with equivalent ARs (Ruger and S&W) for $100+ less, the results shouldn't be too surprising. Add in the highly competitive accessory market and low margin, Walmart model ammo revenue stream and reduce demand and hello bankruptcy. Cerberus Capital didn't buy Remington to preserve and innovate the brand. They bought the brand to make money and killed the golden goose.
  24. Thanks for all the help guys!
