  1. My earliest memories include our first apartment, becoming aware I was in a crib and how to escape. Those early cribs did not have complex gate locking mechanisms as the ones today. 1972 - 73 time frame, We lived in Philadelphia, Dad had just transitioned from 4 years Army to the DoD supporting the same project at Frankfort Arsenal. It's strange what you remember. Our apartment building was named the Mayfair House with a park across the street. There was a bar off the lobby as you would see in a hotel. Apparently, NOT in a good section of modern day Philly. Our family car was a VW Karmen Ghia until we moved to the 'burbs in '74
  2. Watch OPs return policy, after 30-60-90 days (can't remember which) they refer you directly to the mfg'er for warranty work.
  3. Curious about the solar panel backup, especially at this price point. Sorry about your MPX, I thought it was going to be a winner when you brought it to class, send it to Sig?
  4. Well, somehow we left the thread. I'd like to read about your range time, the Saint was about $250 more than the MP when I bought, though I recall the Saint having better furniture with easy bolt on accessory options. Regarding Academy, I have neutral feelings. Some prices seem competitive, others, higher than elsewhere. Normally a good selection of less common calibers if you're willing to pay. Not particularly convenient, so I rarely shop there
  5. In nature, an oyster is able to expel 99.9% of the sand that enters it's shell. It is that one tiny grain of sand that irritates the oyster. In response, the oyster begins to bathe that irritant with a liquid and ultimately, the liquid coating hardens and becomes a pearl. Once the pearl is formed, the oyster doesn't stop, it's continues to add to the protective coating. If you subscribe to God and creation, consider this; in all of God's perfection in the universe, is one small tiny irritant to God, the sin which makes this the imperfect world on which we reside. So like the pearl, God bathes the world with liquid in the form of the blood of Christ to protect it from the irritant. Within me, that same liquid washes away my sin and I believe if I keep my eye on the prize, like the pearl, that liquid will continue to flow and harden to become my growing armor of faith. Please Lord, help me to be a beacon of light in the darkness, protect me from myself and hypocrisy, that my thoughts be upon you, and that others can see Jesus Christ reflected in my words and actions.
  6. If it was normal to open carry, I'd have some cool leather. P01? I like the orange CZ logo grips
  7. Know nothing, but it is cool. I'll probably take a trip down Google lane to learn more, thanks for posting!
  8. Ron Padilla and GJohnsoniv come to mind. I've thought about a diy kydex, with a heat gun, patience and YouTube, how hard can it be?
  9. I think the Mythbusters did a segment on this and busted the Lethal Weapon 2 scene. My thoughts are somewhat effective against indirdct fire, shapnel and flying objects. If we're partying like it's 1899 with black powder, I'd be willing to risk Clint Eastwood iron armor ala Fist Full of Dollars.
  10. You could call David at Cajun Gun Works to see what he can do to this nugget. I sent my 75B Omega to him, internals only, very pleased. A custom holster can be commissioned through TGO. After powering down to .380, I did some research and Shootingthebull410 found Precision One a top performer. If your 82 cycles modern JHP, this may be an option.
  11. While not built to original spec, the new Tisas Regent BR9 has my attention. I always liked the BHP, never was in a position to buy one. CDI Sales gas a few BHPs for auction on GunBroker
  12. You speak of the niche I've been seeking. My go to is my CZ, full size all steel pistol. Getting ready to hit my 10 year anniversary with it Have looked for the replacement and still looking. I tried both the PO1 and P10C; not that much smaller or concealable (for my off work attire) than the 75B and didn't shoot them any better. Going smaller, I have a Glock 19 cut to a 26 grip height with bark stipling. Conceals really well due to the chopped grip, still shootable and mag compatible with Mrs. GtG's G17. Has some panache and being a used Gen 2, the finish has this cool patina effect going on. Not in my fav 5. Smaller yet, is my Kahr MK9 and Kimber Micro .380. In both cases i got a good ones, these are super little pistol. While I can only really carry the MK9 AIWB , they both disappear AIWB, pocket, ankle. Fun to shoot. I think they both look old school tacti-cool. The Kimber satisfies my current desire for a 9mm 1911 and is perfect for work carry. Both are single stack and the Kahr had a long smooth trigger with longish reset. Note: the height of the Glock vs. Kimber vs. Kahr is virtually identical. I haven't shot the 9mm versions of the Micro, but previous posts give them a thumbs up. Stuff I've googled, have touched, and googled some more. Bersa Thunder .380; previously owned, 15 rounds, DA/SA, good shooter with concealment. The Argentine James Bond on steroids gun. Taurus G2 good ergos, double stack, used versions I've seen for CCW reveal worn finishes. Walther PPS M2, love the ergos and trigger in dry fire; for me, the single stack is a con. Walther PPQ SC; if ergos / trigger as good as, this one has my attention. Height and weight look good for what I'm looking for and is a double stack. New to market so not enough info for me to drop the coin. Sig P365, same as above though haven't handled.
  13. Perhaps the slap refers to your brothers and sisters sinning against you. A good example would be bearing false witness or coveting your stuff. Not a physical attack, but an attack none the less. It may also refer to the fact of worldly punishment for sin is no longer prescribed and man is no longer required or asked by God to cover up the sin as in the Old Testament
  14. Found the reference and weapon in Get Tough by Fairbairn. Takes knife fighting brutality to a new level, from the example on the boot, you could remove lower arms and legs with the right training.
  15. I hit the mid century mark shortly and over the last few weeks, I notice a slight ache when sporting my 75. AIWB, ankle, or pocket my Kimber .380 with 6+1 and two itty bitty 7 round mags in a pocket is way more comfortable though less prepared for a down and dirty gun fight. My fondness for CZs is pretty limited to their hammer fired handguns
  16. I never inherited a Pro-mag and thank goodness, by most reports, an epic fail. Agree, for $300 or so, it's a good way to see if you want $600+ PCC If my M1 Carbine fails again, I will strongly look at the Ruger. While I don't EDC a Glock, we have a couple and many mags. Thinking about innovation, the interchangeable magwell is absolute genius coupled with what appears to be a changeable bolt face.
  17. Universals are not necessarily universal with the zillions of existing milspec parts. One reason I sought out an OEM for my first and subsequent purchases. I believe the universal uses a double recoil spring set up which is different. I do not know how to figure out if it's a good one or trouble one.
  18. High Tower Armory has created this: https://www.hightowerarmory.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HTAMBS95 And I am tempted, especially with full ambi controls. Having done light research on bull pups, it seems the trigger quality is the greatest weakness. I don't see the HP getting any worse. Saw a review from a left handed shooter, the ejection port is off hand friendly in design. Other reviews are positive, suprised no negative reviews. This tells me it works out of the box if your HP runs. My total investment with this 4th incarnation would be about $650 with all parts and accessories Thoughts? Original Post Want to start out with my bias towards PCCs. What a great idea. Take a handgun round and make it pretty effective 50-100 yards. A buddy sold me a nib 995 in sometime in '08 for $175 with 6 mags. Did as much research as possible and figured if a lemon, HP will fix it. Sat for at least year, maybe two. You see, while I am not a gun snob, it was so hideously offensive to my fine aesthetic style in the original "manlicher style", Planet of the Apes stock, I couldn't even shoot it in private. Couple of notes: Don't dry fire, the firing pin double as the ejector and is a weak part of the system. Check mag lip specs if experiencing feed issues. Trigger is questionable. There are YouTube videos to improve as well as an aftermarket tirgger if you are so inclined. I am not so inclined, though if feeling industrious, I may do a light polish. While www'ing, I discovered the ATI CX4 clone replacement stock for $69.99. Had to have it since I really like the look of the Storm and it eliminates the hideousness. Easy install, iron sights, my buddy is hitting the target at 50 yards. I am good to go, at one point I had mounted a 3x9 on this version. Looks cools, still no function issues. Feels substantial. Notes about the ATI stock: You have to remove 8 screws to remove the receiver from the stock for cleaning and maintenance. It MAY void the warranty; I believe I saw this on the HiPoint Forum many moons ago. The material of the ATI is similar to a semi flexible abs plastic, the original (and current HP stocks) are a more like a plasticky nylon (?) The other difference is how the barrel is supported. The ATI has a single hard plastic clamp vs. full support with a factory stock. Supposedly, the way the barrel is supported, the flexibility of stock itself when the bolt fully recoils coupled with the odd little camel hump to absorb the recoil is how the system was designed. True or not, it the ATI stock, the bolt noticeably hits the rear and after repeated use, the thin rubber recoil buffer pad was pretty beat up. The picture I saw was showing damage to the rails and after the first few fixes, HP figured out it wasn't a design fault. The report came from a guy who shot is 995 a lot, hundreds of rounds per monthly outing For occasional use and an improved recoil buffer pad, you'd probably be safe. I went the supersafe route and upgraded to the $69.99 TS stock with dual mag holders. It was this stock with $40 BSA red dot that pushed it to "protect my wife and life status," after using it in a close range carbine class. Since then, I started my M1 Carbine saga and acquired an AR, so I didn't think I needed a 9mm PDW, so turned it into a plinked with $40 bipod and $69 BSA 1-4 budget optic. Figured I could deer hunt from my home office window since they get within 25 feet of the house. Closing thoughts It's pretty heavy to hump around, but it will get the job done. 10 rounds mags will work if you got a bunch in your pocket. Be sure you seat the mags with the TS stock, they are slightly recessed in the mag well. The spring loaded recoil pad is neat in theory, not necessary with 9mm recoil and causes a for and aft positioning between shots. It's compact, so for longer length of pull folks it may be uncomfortable. Ergo are fair. Newer models have LRHO, I do not. Newer models have have redesigned receiver with clips for easier dis/re assembly. Budget, brand name, well reviewed optics of all sorts should work - low recoil platform. Dropping it and any optic snapping off due to the optic construction or plastic rail - different conversation. With the availability and reported reliability of Red Ball's 20 round mags, I may drop the bipod and scope, remount the BSA (or a $50 Millett red dot) and throw it in the trunk.
  19. And oh so satisfying to shoot, especially when you triple tap.
  20. Ran 180 mixed rounds today. PPU FMJ & SP and Hornady FTX Critical Defense. 3 failure to feed the PPU fmj, pretty sure it is mag related, it's the rusty 30 rounder and the spring is weak. No issues with full 30 rounds sagging in the mag well though I should upgrade to a type 2 mag catch. This photo is 25 yards, 25 rounds / same mag of the FTX, sitting and supported with a bag, about a two second interval I tweaked the sight a bit after this string.
  21. Hit Bud's in Sevierville this morning. Ran 120 rounds of 124gr Midwest remam ammo (shoot point blank house brand) through my 995. No function issues. After shooting, I looked around. They had a HP4595 for $279.99
  22. The psychological reaction of any man, when he first takes the smatchet in his hand is full justification for its recommendation as a fighting weapon. He will immediately register all the essential qualities of a good soldier - confidence, determination, and aggressiveness. Its balance, weight and killing power, with the point, edge or pommel, combined with the extremely simple training necessary to become efficient in its use, make it the ideal personal weapon for all those not armed with a rifle and bayonet. Effective against pointed (bamboo) sticks and pork armor
  23. According to my above referenced buddy, the recoil pulse was strong enough to cause the front night sight to fail. The fix (for this issue) is an upgraded sight package. He hasn't gotten his yet...
  24. Any reason not to call for a fire inspection as well? It is s rental, so it is commercial property.
  25. You are in a good location, spiff up the units and he can charge more. You'd think he'd give current tenants first right of refusal. If he's putting the reno'd units on a month to month, I'm with peej, get in shape to flip
