Do they even have a second amendment?
A.J. Holst replied to A.J. Holst's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I was unaware of the fine details, like any good lib, I'm taking one single fact to support my narrative, motive, and agenda. "Swiss got a bunch and they're not killing each other, in comparison, I should have the right to have a bunch, because I'm not a killer either." Dave brings up a great point of having enough facts to make a rational decision. The source, DC, is right wing, what exactly is their motive? They either didn't ask or omitted this part of the dialogue to encourage exactly what I did...post, make an uninformed comment and move on...thank you Dave for enlightening me out of ignorance! -
His idea of wear, from a recent text, "I warn you, the butt plate has some corrosion, I sanded and oiled, but keep an eye on it." I did commit. Hopefully it will fill my desire for a lever gun something and .300 Savage fits my hipster, boutique round persona.

Got a chance to buy one for $500 from Best Guy Buddy 54 model, .300 Savage Some wear, zero concerns with mechanicals or accuracy. Tapped with Leupold VX2 2-7 x 33 Thoughts?

June 1 Low Light Class Dayton TN
A.J. Holst replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
I'm looking forward to it, bought a new flashlight. Can we assume you'll teach us how to grow a ninja third arm to manage a pistol, hand held flashlight, and reload? -
I had an original, purchased in '89 for $369 at Sports Unlimited in Orlando. Sold it, no regrets. It was huge for my medium sized hands. The cobra roll mark was pretty cool.

No apologies, how can one validate without multiple sources.

“Our best estimates are between 14 and 18 million firearms in a country of 8.5 million people, making Switzerland’s density double that of the USA,” Marc Heim, a PROTELL board member, told Time. https://dailycaller.com/2019/05/19/switzerland-vote-eu-gun-europe/ Since libs want to use Europe as the great example of modern socialist policies, let's get on the bus. Stymie every argument with, "let's follow the Swiss model." But military service...I did register when I turned 18 and was not called. I am more than willing to show a minimum level of proficiency with firearms I own or will own in the future.

The sin of gluttony. Not a popular sermon or talking point in today's church. Still working through the Screwtape Letters and he mentioned it hadn't been popular for 40 years in 1942 Not being a theologian or scholar, just a a recovering sinner and young Christian, I think this is a good as a definition as any: Reducing the simple pleasures of food through excess OR temperance with the avoidance of thought of how that behavior impacts your overall well being. The excess piece is obviously, more intake for diminishing returns with thoughts on other things rather than long term health. True for any pleasure granted by God, we just do a great job of turning them into vices; alcohol and sex come to mind. I never considered the temperance and abstinence angle. It sounds almost spiritual, Can this destroy the pleasure of food? I only drink the mucho gusto, half frappe, low phat, gmo free, sustainable, mocha lattes. (Screwtape calls this gluttony of delicacies) Can you enjoy a cuppa joe? Is it ok for others to enjoy their Maxwell House and have the opinion, "that's what coffee is!" If you drink Maxwell House, is it ok for others to drink their preferred coffee drink? Here is another subtle example: I only eat at XYZ, because they are the only ones who can properly cook a steak. Now I've got a little pride, vanity, and elitism entering my brain. One I am guilty of is service and quality. I ran a restaurant or three, I'm patient to a point. My wife is a great cook, I dislike spending money and being disappointed. I'm going to allow a pre judgement to influence and potentially ruin a spending time with my spouse when a whole lot of things will go right? Anyone have anxiety simply picking a restaurant? All this over food; for the nourishment of our bodies and the pleasure of the experience. I read an article from Australia (?) where the reporter was berating millennials over their coffee and avocado toast. Interesting, because Satan has further disguised "gluttony of delicacies" to a conversation on economic choices and how I spend the money I earn. As a young man, replace Starbucks and avocado toast for beer, bread, and bolgna, and I made the same (unwise) economic choices, simply with different items. Enjoyed the short term health benefits of alcohol gluttony and changed my behavior accordingly. With all the different and wonderful pleasures God has given to us, enjoy in moderation!

Bought a Mohu Leaf Ultimate 60 at WM today in my quest to dump paid televised programming. Rabbit ears indeed, as my house sits on a downward slope (can't get Dish or Direct) I'll update when I find the spot.

From the Preface: All devils are liars. Using the assumption that liars include or omit facts to create a half truth or falsehoods so the audience does not apply critical or rational thinking to validate the narrative. The liar doesn't want you to think, simply accept what has been presented to you. Knowing the author (or speaker) is a liar, even if you agree with what is presented, it is suspect! There is a motive and agenda, use that wonderful brain to trust but verify. From the Christian viewpoint, can we verify that Satan and his minions lie? I point to Christ's temptation by Satan and how Satan twisted and perverted scripture. More simply put, taking bits and pieces out of the Bible and out of context to drive a narrative. Screwtape also alludes to using similar tactics when he reminds Wormwood of the older brother in the story of the prodigal. Take those feelings and reinforce with resentment. The minions have a real opportunity because the older brothers and sisters hopefully don't have a relationship with God.

The New Glock 48 - Single Stack 10rd Glock 19-ish
A.J. Holst replied to TGO David's topic in Handguns
Interesting thread, especially since I'm going down this path with non Glocks. First off, ever since I saw compact and C model designations and compared to their full size counter parts, compact? Really? Best I can tell, compacts are slightly shorter in length and height. Unscientifically, overlayed a P01 and 75B, G17 to. G19. Trickery, they are nigh identical, shedidng only a few ounces. I also discovered sub compacts are only slightly smaller again, but it's the grip height vs. slide length that impacts concealment. I think width applies for more form fitting attire and hand ergonomics. The issue I have with double stack subs is 2 fingers on what feels like a fat grip with flush mag, e.g. G26, Rami P, P224. The Glock and Sig don'tfeel quite right in my medium sized hands, add the mag extension for 3 fingers, better feel. The other challenge is the shorter sight radius on an SC, learned that in a class. And Glock jumps in with a compact, single stack. Innovative? Not particularly, considering 1911 commanders are sold everyday in 9mm, KAHR is in the niche, and Germanic gun-makers have a history with the P1, P6/225, and P7/8 I entered the arena with a Walther CCP M2 (on sale at Smoky Mountain and they took my PK380 in on trade, $114.32 cash OTD) Dimensionally it fits between my SDP and RAMI P with flush mag. It has similar weight to the RAMI. Insert the 14 round mag and the CCP and Rami are the same height. To address width, the grips of a CCP and Rami P are about the same, it's the slide that is thinner and more svelte looking in comparison. With the posts of prior, "not really a Glock shooter, but like this one," is good for Glock. 10+1 will get you through 80% of the 3-3-3 encounters, an extra single stack mag is usually easier to carry, and less weight in a shootable pistol is a good thing. Add what you should expect with reliability = happy gun owner. -
Thanks for all the info! Got Netflix and HBOnow set up (son's subscription) Streamed a bunch of Tim Conway YouTube vids last night. Mrs. Holst's concern, "how will I watch the voice or world of dance?" "Rabbit ears." Dirty look (since we're old enough)

After ATT couldn't find it in their hearts to discount TV / Internet plan (started at $100, now $220 with taxes and fees) I bought a Roku. Easy to install Lots of free programming, but curious about some of the subscription services, sling in particular. Before I enroll in anything, looking for use feedback. Thanks!

OK...who left their gun in the car in Millington?
A.J. Holst replied to monkeylizard's topic in General Chat
Good point, if our right is going to be licensed by the state the minute we leave our castles with a handgun strapped on, it would be a positive step. -

And this is the argument used to enforce secure storage in the home. Education of youngsters and application of common sense by grown ups would go a long way -
Best of my knowledge, with fixed sights, the reason an SP or GP would shoot left or right is the barrel is over screwed into the frame. If it happened, and you look, it should be obvious.

Letter 3 starts at 13:17 How to sow discourse (with your mother) At 18:26, Cleese adds amusement to the tone of the letter, which by this time, is the script in too many Christian homes, relationships and sitcoms.

I found it on line to read after listening / while listening to Cleese. If demons did converse, they would sound like the stereo typical English elitist, condescending, pompous ass Cleese portrays. No offense to you public school Brits out there, it's the colonial coming out in me. I think he does a masterful job of adding personality to what is somewhat dry and instructional correspondence.

Looks like the TN ammo tax has been repealed
A.J. Holst replied to Jason in TN's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Heck, you couldn't pay a kid $.10 to lick the stamp, they'd be screaming, "I want a dental plan!" 1G is probably spot on, with free shipping, this rev stream is drying up and now that I think about it, a labor burden and extra accounting expense on the storefront retailer. -

I am all about less tax, but $.10 per box did not financially violate or infringe on my 2A rights They can raise the rates for the stuff the operate. Useful and helpful idiots. -
I'm with Dave. How could have those dollars been better spent? He is a risk taker, hiring an Italian driver, I believe they are all in training for Formula 1

This work is by CS Lewis and narrated by John Cleese. Never knew it existed until my most liberal, beyond the Bern, pro life, pro 2A, very angry with God, wayward Christian, sent it to me. I'm still working through it as I can only digest it in small doses. Dear Uncle Screwtape is instructing his nephew Wormwood, in the ways to influence man's nature to distract any thinking or wish to join the enemy, God. It is the second bit off literature (Hill's Outwitting the Devil) that illustrates to me, the common-sense and practical approach Satan uses to exploit human fraility. The bit on church is gold. What does the new (or jaded) Christian see? The body of Christ, or people I tried to avoid all week? The nice thing is, you don't have to even believe in life after to benefit. Believe in being better today than yesterday and do onto others is a great start. Awareness of things that cause you not to think, wasting time on things that make you feel good vs. actually doing good is what builds wisdom, experience, and patience! If you do listen, I will suggest the Wiki page, it gave me a better perspective of novel (over 3 audio hours) and a brief synopsis of what to expect https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Screwtape_Letters

WLP appears to being living the lobbyists dream, questionable expenses and a law firm unwilling to provide invoice details https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2019/05/daniel-zimmerman/nra-documents-reveal-brewer-law-firm-spending-lapierre-expense-details/ Had no idea the NRA had offices in Budapest.
