March 27 TN/GA/AL Training Group !
A.J. Holst replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
Quick review. Lots of cool shotguns, from a vintage 16ga Auto 5 and Remington Model 11 to a Beretta 1301 and everything in between. If I ever have to replace Old Scratchy, my trusty 870 (no frills) Tactical, the 1301 is definitely top of list. Shot my APX with newly installed dot for the first time on the Federal Air Marshall Qual. My reloads were slow but not un -expected and I am looking forward to the new holster on the way. Hunting the dot a bit, have scheduled a red dot class to figure it out. We were a little smarter with sharing data, meaning: Each student recieved a course of fire at the end of the day, times (scores if applicable) recorded on the CoF for the student to retain for their records. No rain despite the ominous forecast.- 2 replies

Installed, big shout out to @joe4vol for use of his sight pusher in a parking lot on Bearden Hill. Hope you and Mrs enjoyed a nice meal on your trip to Knoxville. It is always to meet another TGOer in person! My fears of 'ridiculously tight' were unfounded, once @joe4vol fitted the slide in place, a few quick turns on my part, and out it came. I think I will like it, I already have a good habit, from constant carping, I mean coaching from @Cruel Hand Luke of bringing my pistol up into my eyeline; a few practice presentations and voila, there's the dot, every time. Oordered a holster, need to sight it in and decide when custom fabricated suppressor height sights will be added. -
I'm not sure I'd want a SA revolver for fighting off a charging 4 legged predator. DA/SA would be my choice and .357 or bigger. Reloading in a gunfight, @leroy is on point, I see a brace of revolvers in your future, riding in a cool dual rig of some sort.

Nashville Shootout Body Cam Footage
A.J. Holst replied to Omega's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Biggest difference for me is I am not paid or required to close distance, lay hands on or stop folks for suspected illegal activity. Evade / Escape would be my typical first response. Maintaining a healthier weight is a good goal, outside of defending against a violent altercation. Heart, joints, respiratory all benefit. Anybody else notice the taser didn't turn the BG(irl) into a bowl full of jelly? She was functional enough to present and shoot a handgun - I assume MN issues commercial grade tasers, not one of those $14.99 gun show "think-you- have-a-quality-flashlight-stun-gun combo weapon" -
2 seats remain available Saturday We still have 9 for Sunday @Jamie Jackson donated some cool stuff for us to practice with and on, including a leg. For the live fire portion of class, you can opt to shoot once / 10 rounds. You may get an opportunity to expend up to 30 rounds depending upon range efficiency. Great facility for teaching, training and shooting, backed up with awesome owner and staff.

H.R.8 - Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021

After the attempted insurrection, our elected servants realize there are a lot of citizens that disagree with them. Fear of the unwashed masses. The Republicans are quietly rooting for disarmament as well...it's their power, influence and money club as well. -
Can I borrow a sight pusher?
A.J. Holst replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
My wife has plans, so I'm available after 11, might work, removing rear sight from a Beretta APX. -
What will keep TN a great state is the refugees not voting in the same high cost social programs and policies that they are fleeing from. Don't move here and then vote for that same stupid sh*t here. Thanks for sharing the gun policies of Canada, yes, you would like it here. Note: Nashville and Memphis have the same problems as most metro areas, if I worked there, I'd commute up to an hour in.

Nothing really to add other than congratulations finding your new home, especially in this market! Make sure your gutters stay clear and with a new diverter, you should be good to go. We run a dehumidifier 24/7, empty it every 2-3 days depending on rain. Side note: spray surface mold with a vinegar mixture, not bleach. Don't know why, but it seems to work better.

I'm in Knoxville with the occasional trip to Nashville. Thanks Greg, maybe we could get together over the next few days! @TGO David this forum has the BEST members! -
I would pay a nice fellow a nice rental fee for 15 minutes of use to remove a rear sight.

If I was looking for advice in this area, Jim @AuEagle would be my go to guy.

Truthfully, distances less than 100 yards

Optics ready pistolas... Somethin to play with or the " Real Deal "..?
A.J. Holst replied to leroy's topic in Handguns
Beretta supplies 4 plates (Trijicon, Leupold, Burris, and C-More) with the RDO model. I was going to remount my Burris FF3 until Best Gun Buddy gifted me the RMR. While not a big deal right now in the journey, Beretta does not make suppressor height sights, assuming because the APX didn't catch on. -

My RMR Type 2 arrived yesterday, looking forward to testing as soon as I can remove the rear sight. My experience is when I reach about 15+ yards, my sights are so large, the POI is covered, so precision is a greater challenge. Will the glass fog, break and batteries die at the worst possible moment, of course. I haven't read a volume of reports of failed dots in gun fights, but hey, I carry a second pistol, so I can overcome mechanical dot or firearm failure. -
And I thought adding an ambi charging handle was life changing. Very cool

The window isn't that much bigger, I suspect you would still be hunting the dot. @TGO David shared: with thousands of presentations, he knows when the pistol is coming into his eye line and exactly where the dot will be every time. I am going to learn quickly if my draw is the same each time and what I will need to work on. -

I have an RMR type 2 on the way for a Beretta APX RDO. Will report back. As far as use, I like the concept of where the dot is, the bullet goes. It should decrease the amount of time I need to make accurate shots at 15 yards + and more speed at closer ranges. -
Welcome aboard

They make it in .40 and figured out 10mm, I always thought if they did a limited run in .357Sig, they'd get a few chuckleheads, like me, to take a serious look.

Great choice, if I didn't have a 995, this would be on my short list
-
995 fan here. Thousands of rounds, accurate and reliable. Solid 9mm PCC. Have 2 - 20 round Red Ball mags, few hundred rounds, no issues. Easy to reload with 10 round mags, which are still currently legal in most US states. Down side is it is heavy. I added a HTA bullpup stock to mine and it's 9#+ For $200+ more, there are better options if weight and common mag availability is a concern. According to the internet, 16" barrel gets you about +200fps. It's still a pistol bullet. If you're concerned about range folk talk about exploding, self discharging HPs, eff 'em. SIght it in, keep in moderately clean and lubricated, then ring steel at 25 to 50 yards 10/10 times with no malfunctions.
