  1. Thanks for all the info! The heft of the SP (and the .357 round) is comforting...
  2. A quick background: Primary carry was an .357 SP101 2.25", then I switched to an LCR, recently sent the LCR back to Ruger for repair, switched back to the SP. Now I am thinking about a Walther PK380. I have shot this pistol and fell in love with it. I have seen a lot of Pros/Cons concerning the .380 round for SD. With my background with 5 shot revolvers, I focus a lot on shot placement. Let the opinions fly, not only on the .380 round, but this particular handgun for EDC. Thanks,
  3. This topic has probably a few threads in the archives, but my instructor advised me to simply hand over my license and HCP at the same time and have the LEO ask as opposed to volunteering. It's ben a few years since I earned a traffic stop, but like Magic, I always wait with both hands on the wheel and interior light on after dark.
  4. The guy or gal who carrys into a bar and has a drink or three, whether they have an HCP or not, is NOT concerned about the law. It's probably the same person who will draw when the liquor kicks in and they take offense to how someone looks at them or their date. Not drinking and actually following the law, well, you can defend yourself from these idiots. I still reflect a lot on the posted "no guns allowed" policy, I abide by it as a law-abiding citizen, but if it's well concealed...
  5. Thanks for all the advice, now to narrow it down! A good friend also recommended the Spec Ops Better BDU. The Carhartt is a great looking belt! I do like the instant gratification available at Greene's What about the military surplus place on Alcoa Highway - anyone been in there?
  6. Erik88 - thanks for the link, with un-tucked shirts, not worried about the scratches. TN-popo - I think I want a 1 - 1/2", all my casual / work pants have larger belt loops. gregintenn - not sure if I want a single or double, for casual / work wear, my shirts are 99% un-tucked. Since cutting out all the fast food, I am back down to a 31" waist.
  7. The seller could have / should have done some homework and may have been able to negotiate a better deal. If the buyer low-balled and he said yes, well good for them. Bottom line if the seller is happy with his deal, no harm no foul. A good deal is how you feel, not the actual price. I even traded a S&W .32 Polie Regulation for a brand-new Ruger P95, no tax +$10 TICS. Was it a good deal? I don't know, but I had a rough idea what it was worth and I was happy when I walked out of Mike's Gun Shop in Tazwell, TN I agree with the sentiment of many, if I know a LGS is buying low, selling high, not only on guns, but accessories, I won't shop there.
  8. My last one was a gift, so I am not sure who the manufacturer is. I started shopping and saw prices $60 / $80 / $100 I don't want to cheap out, but is there a decent 1-1/2" belt out there for less than $50? Application is for IWB carry, Ruger SP101 in a High Noon Hidden Ally or LCR in a Kholster Thanks, GtG
  9. When I first saw the pics, I said, "that looks like a Hi-Point ejection port." Not sure about past performance, but HP is putting out a pretty decent product at a great price point with an outstanding warranty.

    Short List

In no particular order: Ruger SP101 or GP100 in .357 Ruger 10/22 Remington 870 12ga Ruger Mk or 22/45 A decent 9mm (find one you like, feels comfortable in your hand and you shoot well) What I want to add to my list: CZ75 Omega Sig P220 or a traditional 1911 Aside from the shotgun and 10/22, I have some long guns I want, but they are WAY down the road. If possible, go to your local gun range and see what you can rent so your can "test drive" before you buy.
  11. I've got the LCR in .38, with +p it has a pretty stout recoil and it weighs in @ 13oz. The .357 LCR is black stainless @ 17oz. Not sure that extra 4oz is going to make much difference with full house .357 loads. I agree with BryanP, the .357 chamber does give you more options, which is why I like my SP101 so much.
  12. Not sure if your G-lock is defective, but if you didn't have 4 extra mags, a compact BUG in an ankle holster and 6 ninja throwing stars, you may have been un-prepared.
  13. Sending it back due to what appears to be a mfg'ing defect. The aluminum strap directly above the forcing cone shows signs of pitting / cratering. I saw a post on another forum where an LCR owner had the same problem: Thoughts on Ruger LCR's reliabilty, durability? - THR - see #6 Here is the Youtube: YouTube - Buyers Beware : Ruger LCR(read info box) Mine has about 500 rounds through it, combo of .38spl 130gr MC and .38+P 125gr JSHP Since it appears I am only the second person with this problem, I don't think it is a flaw with the gun itself, nor it could it have been caught in a visual QC inspection before being shipped from the factory.
  14. Got to send my LCR back to Ruger. USPS? UPS? FEDEX? Who can I use and are there any special TN gun law restrictions? Thx
  15. looking good for your first time. How did you get the revolver printing into the leather?
  16. I am considering it, but I am not sure if I want to become close friends with the BATF or FBI for that matter. Looking for opinions! Thanks, AJ
  17. Another option is the Kholster.

A good buddy just ordered a Fusion 1911 long-slide in 10mm, I can't wait for him to get it

    TN CCW...How to?

  20. I am Ruger biased, so here are my votes: I started with a SP101 w/2.25" barrel in a Done Hume pocket holster. At the time I was primarily wearing full cut dress pants, so limited printing issues whether I had the rig in my front or back pocket. Then I started to lose some weight I couldn't hold my pants up. 26oz. 5 shot .357 is a hefty little gun, but is fun to shoot. There three good choices of SD rounds readily available at most retailers: 125gr .38+P SJHP or 125gr .357 SJHP or .38+P LSWC-HP. The SP eats them all up. Zombie killing / fun shooting use .38spl 130gr RN. It's like shooting a .22, If you can handle the weight on your frame and with the type of clothing you wear, this is my first choice. My second choice, and primary carry: A friend gifted me with an LCR with a plain pocket holster and what a cool little gun. I personally have always liked the hump on the S&W Model 638 and along came the LCR. Similar hump and oh, so light. 13.5oz, comfortable in front or back pocket or numerous IWB / OWB holsters available, compact so very little printing. DAO, I think better sights could be better - I am considering the XS regular dot. I just got a IWB from Kholster, had it about 2 weeks and I really like it. I have never had a reliability issue with either of these Rugers, I keep up the oil changes and tire rotation, I have not mechanically modified them, when you pull the trigger, they go boom. With that being said, you have 5 shots, speedloaders are bulky, but you have 2, so 15 shots with a lot of reload time if you don't practice. I haven't checked out the Speed Strips yet, I figure if I need more than five, the SHRHTF. I leave my 2 speedloaders in the truck. If you carry a 5 shot, you may want to consider 2, or a compact auto or keep your P95 close by I do recommend the shoot before you buy plan. I think it's great to have the opportunity to test drive a gun before plunking down a few hundred bucks.

    Ruger P95

I too have a P95, which was my first auto. Love it. For a double stack, grip still feels good, decent trigger out of the box and I have had a few hundred rounds of trouble-free shooting.
  22. Concur on the CZ, my buddy has his for sale and I am trying to figure out where to get the money to buy it.
  23. New here, but also from Seymour, Blount County side.
  24. Not sure why it took me so long to find this forum, but here I am. As a Ruger fan, the only handguns I own are (in order of acquisition) SP101 w/2.25", LCR, and most recently a P95. I shoot at two local indoor ranges , ocassionally at the John Sevier Range and we are in the process of setting up an outdoor range on my in-laws property in South Knox county. As a HCP holder, I do qualify as a paranoid nutjob, but I work in the urban section of East Knoxville and when I found shell casings in my parking lot one Monday morning, that sealed the deal. Looking forward to participating and learning!
