  1. When's a good time to visit Academy?   Sounds like they have a slightly better price point than GM and saves me a little gas.
  2. Was shopping for 9mm about two weeks ago in Knoxville. Academy was thin, WalMart(s) had zero, Gander Mountain was flush.   Paid $16.99 for 50 rounds of Blazer Brass, long gone the days of gold old Red Box Federal Champion for $12.97 at WM and $14.99 at my local LGS...   Please with the performance of the BB ammo, std 115gr fmj. Shot a bunch of it through a Glock 17, CZ75 and MK9 at Randy's recent training session in Knoxville.   No malfunctions and pretty clean shooting stuff, I'd buy it again.
  3. I just received a gift of a 3" SP101 fresh from Gemini Customs and have a nice holster on the way.   In the interim, I need an interim; of the rigs I use, the retailers don't show a holster specifically for a 3" SP.   Here's where I need help:   The frame of a 3" Ruger SP101 is most similar to what 3" S&W model?   Thanks!
  4. What are they made out of?   Is it a laminated wood or an acryllic / polymer type of product?   Welcome to TN and the forum!
  5. Government's purpose is to enforce laws and prosecute the bad guys.   What happens when law-abiding folks follow the law?   They are not subject to the power of Government enforcement.   Government doesn't like that, so Government passes more laws and regulations to make it impossible NOT to break the law, thus creating more criminals   They want us to break the law, not to incarcerate, but with to punish financially with fines backed up with the underlying threat of jail time if we don't meekly hand over our EARNED income.
  6. I had an LCR in .38 a while back. Pretty good trigger out of the box, ok to shoot with .38spl, not so much fun with +p. If I went back to the platform, I would get one in .357 and have fun shooting .38   Not sure if the weight would be bothersome, but has she looked at an 2.25" SP101? It was my first EDC handgun.   I did some tuning on it to improve the trigger action, it's better than what it was...   Like the SP so much, I recently got a second one with 3" barrel which has been in the hands of Gemini Custom.
  7. I was just recently talking to KnoxAl --- he is a current Sig guy, former Glock. To him, the Sig feels better in his hand and he doesn't mind the extra weight of an all metal pistol.   In my house, my wife has a Glock and I am a CZ guy (which must be the Mercedes of DA/SA since Sig is the Cadillac)   I shoot the CZ waaay better than her Glock; it is more comfortable in my hand.

  9. Correct me if I'm wrong but I understand the Supreme Court ruled the AHCA was a tax, not an insurance plan.   So when folks don't pay their tax under the guise of payment for premiums, then the 16000 newly hired IRS agents get to earn their pay...   What happens when you don't pay your taxes?   More importantly, what insidious power does the IRS have that no one does?   My bet is they will fast-track wage garnishments, bypass "working" with the criminal tax evader and simply send out notices to your employers.   Dems and Reps arguing over de-funding? Please, through wage attachment this tax program will be funded by anybody with a W2 income. When they run out of W2, look out all you 1099s - they're coming after you next.
  10. JB Weld...
  11. I have thousands of rounds through one of my SP101s, 60% assorted .38 and 40% .357; a crapload of .22 with routine maintenance = a modern "heirloom"
  12. I will occassionally carry my MK9 or SP101 in a Desantis.   With with a good belt and belt line riding the top of the hip, I can also carry an extra mag or speed strips, knife and keys in my weak hand pocket without the weight pulling down my pants gangsta style...
  13. 2 weeks out...Sunday Oct. 6   If you have any questions or need more information, please feel free to PM Randy or myself.   As always --- please seek out a top tier organiztion for on-going education and training!!!
  14. Well written humor clearly illustrating how absurd gun control laws only impacts law abiding folks.   "The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws"   Dr. Floyd Ferris, State Science Institute, Atlas Shrugged, 1957
  15. My buddy sent me this:   http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-news-and-politics/143492/samuels-syria-vladimir-putin#   Not sure if 's a rabbit hole but if any truth, we need to keep our eye on the friendly Russians.   The China involvement indicated a more public show of their move from regional to international dominance.
  16. Yes, a sarcastic letter can and will receive an equal response, but what is interesting most Sheriffs support gun ownership. Why? because they are elected by the "non-city folk" whereas a PD Chief dance to the tune of the "city folk" and hired by Mayors.   Not to knock the state of IL, but their laws appear to be influenced by population density of Chicago and other large metro areas. Poll the folks who live in the country...   Regarding Mr. Ashe: 42 years as an LEO, retired now for how long? When was the last time he was on the beat? Times have changed and I daresay he doesn't accurately represent the sheriff's of TN.   Cut him some slack, racking a shotgun is terrifying to any and all who hear it and causes paralysis and/or "flight"
  17. I have a HiViz front on one of my SP101s. It is great in medium to normal light. It is well nigh useless in low to no light. Learned that at a poorly lit indoor range.
  18. Another win for the good guys!   Concealed carry, BG neutralized, no one killed and I though guns killed people.   Take that you anti 2A-ers!   and thank you Mr. Alexander!!!
  19. Yes, but a second gun well secured in the car. As a southpaw, right hand draw and shooting is a necessary skill. Try LH draw from the drivers seat sometime, nigh impossible to point a handgun or have any leverage for retention if a BG is in the window...
  20. Wow, what a wide range of responses. All I can add is depending on where I am and my wife is (no kids to protect anymore) , I will or will not confront or barricade. My last choice is to clear my house, first choice is baaricade and announce, "armed, calling 911, continue what you're doing at your own peril." This is so situational there are too many "correct" action plans
  21. My MK9 is pretty darn smooth, but I'm always interested in making "good" even better if a reasonable DIY project. Saw a step by step for removing the striker assembly from a Kahr, the poster said use your third hand for reassembly.
  22. Don't forget a little lube on the extrator too.
  23. Thanks Patton, I may have been overly sensitive to a perceived "hijacked" thread when Duck posted.
