Think what the NRA could do with all the funds directed to lobbying efforts. -

I'm glad we have representation in DC and I assume the NRA is well managed. What an awesome business model for the Lobbyist industry: get paid to peddle pull and influence to protect the 2A (or put forth / push back an agenda) This leech of an industry which generates hundreds of millions per year in fees shouldn't exist and because of the state of politics. The NRA (and by default, us) are forced to participate in these questionable practices upon which our guv'mint operates. -

I support the NRA because it's cool to have a Lobbyist. Make no mistake about it and being such it's about the money because what that $348 mill can do. These guys are using our donations to gain access to elected servants to wine and dine them in order to HOPEFULLY influence what these clowns SHOULD be doing. This is how we protect our rights and freedoms today just as others use their Lobbyists to stifle our rights and freedoms all the while trying to promote their agenda. If the NRA spends a 1/4 each for operating expenses (salaries, etc) marketing/awareness (all media) and safety programs that would leave 87 mill in the budget for direct interactions with legislators and key staffers...very rudimentary math but that about $162,000 for each of the 535 congressional offices... -

Does anyone remember the Doonesbury comic where the genius kid builds a nuclear device using radium gathered from old watches?

Considering the seat belt check had nothing to do with safety and awareness but revenue generation, it's despicable. When revenues fall because not enough folks are breaking laws, guv'mint creates new laws to make more law breakers to fine.

Illinois, your head is safe because we don't allow guns.

No one should mandate you to do anything. Be the rebel and ride naked. My point is when I fail to employ common sense, which is my right, the consequences CAN reduce the freedom and rights of others as they pick up the pieces.
-
And that's what's wrong. How many rights and freedoms have we debated when those rights and freedoms override common sense. "It only affects me / what I do has no bearing on you." Not in my case if I risked my safety for my freedom. My wife and family become responsible for ALL the additional burdens that come from a catastrophic event if I survive or die. My zillion dollar insurance expense will be shared by the group, so I know I will cause premium increases because I know how insurance works. My wife will probably figure out to get a poa and get a me a disability check since I've worked all my life, so I'll tap into everyone's pocket for a few pennies because my rights and freedom outweighed an ounce of preventative common sense. Sacrifice a little on the experience knowing how smart you are.

My cousin worked full time as an RSO at a poorly ventilated indoor range. Really effed him up, physically and mentally, ended up hospitalized before any really figured out it was lead poisoning. Got healed up, but it was a long road. hadn't crossed my mind in years until I saw this post. A lead warning PSA in 2015. Who woulda thunk it?

Wow, you guys are brutal. As a lad I worked at a from hoof to steak Butcher shop, so if it's about queasiness, yes I could. If that is your concern, it's not a Civil War operating theater with gallons of blood and limbs on the floor, you'd probably be surprised how little gore there is and I'm guessing you wouldn't be over the docs shoulder looking at what he or she was doing anyway. If it's about intruding into an environment when your presence may distract the medical team, that's a communication issue between IT and surgical services. ...I used to hang out at the Ruger Forum and met Gary Bunker [Iowegan] a retired gunsmith with an affinity for Ruger revolvers. Gary had published a copyrighted, now-out-print guide to "provide a person with average mechanical skills a means to inspect in perform routine maintenance on Ruger double action revolvers" Being such a person, I wanted to tune up my SP101, which included successful dis and reassembly of the all the trigger parts pieces and springs. The guide also has an advanced section if you or know somebody with the tools. I recently spoke to Gary and have permission to share some of the information in: Iowegan's Gun Guide for Ruger GP-100 and Super Redhawk with supplements for SP101, Security - Six and Redhawk. For general questions and recommended tolerances, post here, for specific / detailed information shoot me a PM.

Already out of stock. I think I'd like to own one. Pretty cool caliber too. Sig brace?

I'll give Ruger a thumbs up on an LCR I owned a few years ago. Was cleaning it and noticed cratering in the top strap above the forcing cone. I noticed a little crystallization in the metal, a quick Google search revealed only one of guy who experienced this issue, so just one of those things... Called Ruger, they set up UPS to and from, got a new gun back in about 14 business days. They also picked up my TICs fee.

When I ran a commercial tile company, we enforced wearing brain buckets, not because of the actions of my men, it's all the other idiots out there. Ounce of prevention. Don't own a bike but my best bud rode for 20 years, like crossfire, gave it up about 2 years ago. He lives out of state, but every time I would see a crushed bike and ambulance on scene, I would call him to make sure he was keeping an eye out for everyone NOT paying attention. That's what I worry about for you riders - I drive 4000+ miles a month and the stories I could tell would sound like tall tails of the one that got away. Driver's are so isolated and distracted within their vehicles, something "as small as" a motorcycle is not noticed until the last minute or it's too late. Why choose to increase your risk of severe brain damage and long-term physical and mental injury? If you are the guy we see with a $500 racing helmet, tank top, cut off shorts and flip flops - I'm proud of you for protecting your brain, man, but I not really sure your brain is worth protecting - it obviously doesn't understand skin contacting asphalt or concrete at a leisurely 30mph is recipe for road rash ala mode... Wear / use the right equipment for the task at hand whatever it may be?

I like the pay more for insurance plan. Tell your carrier you do not wear head protection while riding even though common sense tells me if your head hits the road or an object in a motorcycle accident you are better protected with a legitimate helmet. When you're in a coma on life support, why should the group pay more in premium to cover you? Smokers pay more, weight and health impact privately purchased insurance, why not a a non helmet premium adjustment? It's higher risk, why should your risk be shared by helmet wearing riders who are lower risk?

Getting Tailed, what to do
A.J. Holst replied to CommsNBombs's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The chick in the CRV tailgating me this morning on Topside needs to read this... Posted 45, we at 50 as is the traffic in front of me and I'm the target of her very unlady - like gestures? What if I was the king of badassdom who takes nothing off nobody? Could have slammed on my breaks to teach her a lesson, risking a collision and being force off the road or into oncoming traffic. I figured she was drunk to account for her behavior. -
I have no horse in this race as "slim to none" equals the odds I'll buy one. For the G-lock guys, having a similar platform to their primary it makes sense. My compact is an MK9 and with the solid competition from $300-$700 will Glock attract new customers? Will people satisfied with their Kahrs, Kel-Tecs, Rugers and Shields spend another couple of hundred dollars.

April 19 Knoxville Suarez Training Group
A.J. Holst replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
To get the most bang for your buck, here's a few best practices I learned from attending these "continuing ed" courses. Hydrate...continuously bring a camp chair A mag loader is nice to have bring a second gun/holster if you're got one. Allows you to "test drive" your BUG or secondary handgun and in the highly unlikely event your primary goes down, you still get to play. We drill in a field frequented by cows and in wet weather can get sloppy, wear appropriate foot gear. I promise the range will be much better groomed than we had at the last event. I bring a shelter and a folding table. Extra shelters are appreciated as there is no shade. For the ladies attending, my in laws provide bathroom facilities. Pack in your lunch and snacks, nothing close in terms of time.
