I've been loading those plated Raniers in 230g for my 1911 for a bit. Last 500 rnds have been those. Ran out of bullets and shot my last loads at the range Saturday and immediate went to my LGS for more bullets. It was suggested I try these lead bullets dipped in something. I think they're Precision? They are 230g RFP. Immediately I realized that my OAL would have to significantly shrink from 1.27 down to 1.22 just to fit flush for the "plunk" test. I made a dummy rnd at 1.20 (I'd throw the bullets away before going any lower) and it behaved just like the 1.22. They will go "plunk" going in, but will not fall out when I turn the barrel upside down. I dropped the projectile only, no shorter OAL than that, and I still had to tap it a bit for it to fall out. I made 9 rnds and the bullet's diameter range from .450-.451. I seated to an OAL of 1.22 and crimped all 9 to .471. Are these bullets too fat to go thru my barrel and gonna blow me up? Maybe they all do this, I just know the previous bullets I've loaded always fall out when I turn the barrel upside down. I hand cycled them thru my gun twice and had no jams, FTE and absolutely no bullet setback. Just a bit concerned to shoot them. Brad

Smith Wesson Governor Release? Thoughts compared to Judge?
dickenscpa replied to a topic in Handguns
I've had a Judge for quite a while, love it. I'm more accurate with 45colts out of it than any of the handguns I own. It's on my hip during bow season. Two copperheads and a coyote down due to it. Reloading is the only answer for shooting 45C or 45acp in any numbers. My edc is a 1911 so it was reload or barely practice. I'm just waiting for the people who ragged on Taurus saying the whole concept was idiotic to praise S&W's innovation. -
This is my guess. We were only allowed to load 5 rnds at a time, regardless of our gun capacity. 3, 7, 10 & 15 yds. We shot 5 rnds at each distance. At 7 yds we did a 5 shot round of chest, chest - head. Again at 7 yds we did 5 rnds of one handed strong arm, reloaded and did 5 more one handed off hand. At 3 yds we did 5 rnds of left hand in defensive position and empty gun in belly of target, we reloaded and switched hands for 5 more rnds. At 10 yds we did 5 rnds of head only. 50 rnds exact total.

Wow, your wife might be my sister separated from me at birth. I too have a Masters, 4.0, passed the CPA on the first try, etc. I kept putting the HCP class off because I was terrified of failing the written and/or shooting part. Don't know why and can't explain where the fear came from, just know it was there and STRONG. Wound up the only one in class to actually get 100% right on the written and I got 48/50 shots on target. My Dad and I took it together, he was kinda my security blanket. Like I said I understand her fear and I've taken a blue million tests. I learned a LOT in my class and really enjoyed it. He went over a few things before he handed out the test. Basically a , "Don't let #24 throw you. The answer is True, but someone will still miss it." Half the answers were found in the posters they had hanging on the wall. Bottom line, she will not fail unless she goes postal on the range portion.

I bought a Taurus 1911AR 1/21, love it and it runs perfect BTW, and I've really been going thru the .45acp since I bought it, little over 800 rnds now. Went into LGS to get more ammo. Been thinking I needed to add 9mm to the stable due to ammo costs. Last Friday (2/4) I went in and he had a P95 for $279! Well, I'm not stupid so I bought it. Ran 220 rnds thru it the next day and it ran perfect too. For what it's worth I ran 100 rnds of American Eagle and 120 rnds of WWB and they fed and ejected fine. I bought a Kel-Tec P11 back in 2000 and we didn't get along. I sold the gun and the remainder of the WWB I had left when I bought the Kel-Tec, I let go with the gun. Friday night I was going thru my safe and found 20 rnds of that almost 11 yr old WWB and it shot it fine too. I noticed the projectile in the 11 yr old WWB was slightly different than the new I bought. The Kel-Tec would NOT shoot that ammo. The P95 ran all of it fine. I love the gun. Brad

I take my 8 yr old and he loves it. He thinks of it like a treasure hunt. I use a DeLorme and it works quite well. There have been a few that I stopped early because I felt we were encroaching.

I take my son on camps and hikes all the time. Does your backpack have the strap that goes across your chest to hold the two shoulder straps together? I keep my gun in a hip holster on that. Pretty easy to get to and out in the woods I'm not concerned with concealment. I'd normally keep it on the hip, but with a big backpack, every step is banging into my gun. So I know where you're coming from.

Just got home from the Gun Room, my first trip there. He told me basically the exact same thing and to be honest, I agree with him. Great bunch of people running the store and I just felt right at home. Nice range and I like targets on a hanger as opposed to losing my paid time stopping every 15 minutes for cold range to retrieve targets. I had a blast and very thankful it exists here where i live. I'll probably do their membership. It's a business and he has liability to think about. Just because someone is legal to carry doesn't necessarily mean they're fit. He has no way of knowing someone's level of safety when they walk in the door. I've only been to about 3 or 4 different ranges, but I don't think any have allowed loaded weapons to enter the range that I've been to. Bottom line, I was treated like I was wanted there and was wanted to come back. I will go back again and again, they won my business. David and all his staff treat me like a king at Lebanon Gun Shop and I trust whatever David tells or sells me. The more i get to know the people at the Gun Room, Ill probably say the same for them. I'm tickled I have good choices here in Lebanon for all my gun needs.

I've got the 3" brl/3" chamber magnum steel. I only use it in the truck console, night stand and on my hip during hunting season. I love mine. I've got some targets at 25' with .45LC's and I shoot that more accurately than any gun I own. I've used it for real 3 times. In early Sept we were doing some hunting lease maintenance and I slid down a little 4' gulley. Snake at the bottom, dead snake. Early bow season I was hunting from a ground blind. Uninvited snake, dead snake. Both were copperheads. Did take a doe in bow season and she must have been tough. Made a good double lung but she carried on a bit. When I found her, a coyote had spotted her too. The yote was only maybe 35#'s at the most but he would not shew away. A .45 took care of him at maybe 20'. He just kinda circled a little 5' radius growling like which one of us would move first. Due to double shoulder surgery I use a xbow during bow season and reloading a xbow isn't quite as quick as a vertical bow. I have other guns for CC but for fun shooting and a good bow season hip mate, I love my Judge.

LOL! Small world! I'm AlexDad over there. Alex is my son and I'm his Dad. Now that I have a little girl too, I need get her name in there as well. She's Olivia and we call her Livvy. Maybe I should be AleviaDad.(?) I'm a member of a lot of forums. Not a huge poster but I check them and read every day. I will have to say that the ones I'm a member of that are more local, such as TN based I get a lot more active. Met A LOT of good friends thru gun/hunting oriented TN sites.

Too funny! I'm also a member of TNDeer and there's a guy on that site with the same username as you.

I had a similar scare last night. Funny enough it involves our cat. Tuesday and Wednesday we've had painters in the house, they'll be back today. We also had our HVAC unit worked on yesterday. A guy also came out to survey and mark off for our new fence. Needless to say quite a few people in and out. Anyway I heard a noise that caused me to sit straight up in bed. I heard what sounded like a human, moaning voice trying to say something legible. Then I hear strange foot steps in the hall leading to our bedroom door. We have two kids, one 8 yrs old and the other 7 months old. The 7 month old was not possible. I let my eyes adjust to the dark and grabbed the pistol. Short version: The painters left all their drop cloths as is since they were coming back and my cat's footsteps on the one in our hall "sounded" ominous. LOL! In the same hall is my office, it has French doors. Apparently a cat toy got in there and I closed the door. She was sitting outside the door moaning and wanting that toy. That was the freakiest and spookiest moan I've ever heard a cat make. It sounded like a human with a gag trying to call out. I hate to admit this, but it really sounded "ghostly" and I don't believe in ghosts. I was wondering if I had the wrong weapon. LOL!

Got mine in the mail today too. Got finger printed 6/24 and it was 22 days today. I figure the 4th holiday jumped me from 21 to 22 days. Brad

Hello, my name is Brad. Live in Lebanon. I'm an accountant and love to fish, hunt and ride motorcycles. Look forward to contributing and getting to know some of you. I've lurked and reseached in here for a while, joined about a month ago. I'm an avid reader, but if I don't post much it's not because I don't visit every day or anti-social. I'm just low key and only speak when I have something of interest.
