^ Nice buck I shot this one today: Rain quit about 7:30 and I left the rundown, critter infested, old house I holed up in and I went to slippin' through the woods. Eased out a ridge and peeked over the edge and saw a doe picking around on a little flat about 75yds below me. Hid behind a tree and glassed with the binoculars and could see another deer behind her. Waited a minute and he got clear, I leaned around the tree and a Federal Fusion .223 to the boiler room was all she wrote for him. Fun hunt. I don't get to do it much but the wind and wet ground was right for it today. Thanks to my Dad for teaching me how to slip around in the woods chasing squirrels. -
They can jack some stuff up I've seen some tore up ground when duck hunting in TX. But even with all the habitat destruction I still wish we had them like they do down there. Just the year round additional hunting opportunity for good meat sounds fine to me.

Oh and yesterday I took my little boy deer hunting for the first time. He's been saying "me go huntin with you" every time I put camo on for the last 2 months. I've had a cold and didn't figure I really need to be out in it. So as I was getting ready to leave I decided we'd all go and just sit in the truck overlooking a field and have a family hunting trip. Me, my wife, my son, and my daughter all got camo on and headed out. On the way there he decided he'd up his participation level and said "you let me shoot deer" I replied "dude you're 2, it ain't gonna happen. You're gonna have to wait a while on that" lol. We all sat and watched the field and ate pretzels and candy and looked through binoculars backwards. Nothing came out but we had fun. Right after we left the farm as we were coming through Gordonsville they were all lined up about to start their Christmas parade. So we figured we'd just ease into town and get out and watch that too. He saw Santa and had a even better day. So now my 2yo and 1yo have been hunting I guess. -

It rained today. Sat in a barn loft all morning. Was nice and dry and warm with my camp chair and propane heater. Decided to get in a stand in the afternoon cause i thought the rain was gonna back off. Yeah it rained more. My new Browning Hells Canyon Nitro gear doesn't leak at all. Damn good stuff. My boots apparently do now. Stepped though a creek and got wet feet. And by God it was foggy this afternoon! I could see about 20 yds avg from 2-dark. Shoulda hunted the barn in the afternoon. And I saw 1 deer. It was a small racked buck that hit the woods when i pulled into a field to look for a Christmas tree. Pretty crappy day. -
For private property in FL: year round. No lic needed. No limit. Any weapon, day, night, over bait. Just got back from down there last week. I sat a few nights over bait with a solar powered motion security light. Never saw any but it was exciting when the deer tripped the light. The pigs just weren't hitting the bait that week. Never got any pics of any that week on our cameras either. Way it goes. On public land other stipulations apply: http://m.myfwc.com/hunting/by-species/wild-hog/ I think it'd be tough to go down and hunt public land. You'd just have to scout and try to find some and i would assume you'd have to have a little luck. The property I hunt drops off into swamp/lower ground along the Ochlockonee River and there is where I have found sign. There is public land all around our property, Apalachicola NF. If you're ambitious there's no dog hunting on the west side of Hwy 375 between the highway and the river. (thats where I hunt, just on private land) but i would imagine you could probably scout and find hogs all up and down through there on the public land part too because it is similar habitat.

I hunt on days I have off work. Sometimes it's hot, cold, windy, or rainy. Workin' man gotta play the hand he's dealt. I prefer other conditions but windy I like to hunt the tallest ridge top I can get on , in my experience they like to bed down up there i guess so they can see or stalk ridge tops if I can get away with it. On top the it don't swirl as bad is one reason I like to hunt up high when its real windy. I've tried to hunt out of the wind but down low and side ridges i always got busted a lot from unpredictable swirls. Even if they can't lock you down they tend to vacate the premises if they catch a wiff. I figure cause they're already spooky from stuff moving and their hearing being impaired. I'm talking 20-30mph winds. But any wind I prefer to hunt higher on ridges if I can to cut out some of the swirling wind. I hunt the wind, if I know i'll get busted easy I'll go somewhere else or use my climber to get in a more favorable position. Of course it just don't always work out.

My dad died of it last year. My grandaddy died of it. And a relative of my wife's just died of it. All of them great patriotic men who provided for their family and served their country and defended The Constitution in time of war. I've thought to myself why commie wind bags like her can't get a little of it too.

It ain't no thang to me, just part of it. I have an extra fridge and I can put a quartered out deer in a cooler in there with the shelves removed. So I don't feel like I gotta knock it all out at once. Usually let it sit a day or two then one evening I do all the cutting and grinding, the next i'll package it up and put in the freezer. I just turn on the radio in the garage and listen to music. It's definitely not something I dread like buying tires or getting up leaves in the yard, lol. Best buys were a plastic top folding table I can just dump some bleach on and hose off and a good grinder.

What's the of the biggest buck you've ridden within 20' of like 5 B&C? Lol

The Suwannee hits the Gulf west of Ocala. We're more northwest of where you're talking about, SW of Tallahassee.

Looking at a map, right about dead center of Apalachicola NF on the Ochlockonee. It's been a fun week. We've had bait and cameras out but ain't seen no hogs, just a bunch of deer. Got a nice lil buck on a camera a few evenings this week one of the cousins is trying to kill as his first buck. I call that my spot and I think I could slip in there and kill him. But I've passed up a couple that size at home and since we can't chase em with hounds up home I figure I oughta be doin' that while I can. I've done traded in my scoped 7mm-08 for my wife's Grandpa's old 742 Woodsmaster .308 just for nostalgia. I love this stuff.

I ain't gonna lie, I like to hunt in the evening cause I don't have get up early. I've killed 'em morning and evening. I like both

Sounds about like my week at my in-laws down here. They live out in the forest so its about like a huntin camp. We got up and hunted yesterday morning I hunted in a stand on the property here. Some of em went out to run dogs. They killed a spike. We all met back and had a big dinner outside on the porch. Hunted a while in my stand after eating. Got up this morning and went dog huntin'. Had a good race right off and one of the guys killed a 5 pointer. Sucker almost got to me but turned just before I got a view of him and ran parallel down the road. one of the 10 yo kids got into him with buckshot before he turned back and went to the other road to get cut off and meet his demise. Had a couple more races that ended up being does. Gonna get up and run em again in the mornin'. FL's pretty fun at Thanksgiving.

I been sitting in my stand since before daylight. Saw 7 does and a 3pt between 8:00 and 10:00am but I'm not meat hunting for a while. I've been waiting on a good N wind to hunt this stand so I just bundled up and dealt with it. I did sleep for an hour but I only slept 2 last night, went to the George Jones tribute concert. Not much shooting round today. -
Get a drawl and won't nobody aggravate ya. I've stopped in a few times and bought a couple things. They seem like pretty good folks to me.

It's obvious i dislike Kmart but it's not that bad to me just yet, lol.
-
Sears gets me how the've switched tons of Craftsman hand tools to made in China, try to pass it off as classic American made that they use to boast about, and sell it all at the same price. Kmart's are always dirty, dingy, and old. Poor people don't even shop there. I'm not sure how they keep the 2/3's of the fluorescent lights that still work, on. That's 2 stores that have run their course.

Kmart's still in business???

DaveS has it right. There is a primative hunt on TN Natl Wildlife Refuge (and others too i think but I know of the TNWR hunt.) it's early in Oct. and pretty cool. Lots of big deer on TNWR. It's totally separate from the general hunt referred to as Muzzloader season. I'd find it hard to believe one couldn't look at every state's regs and not refer to all as confusing. I was looking at NM regs like 2 nights ago and thought "why they gotta make this chit so dang confusing." Every time I've looked at another state I thought it was more difficult to decipher than TN but it's only cause I'm used to our type of confusion i reckon, lol.

Got my new to me Savage 7mm08 and my 7mm RM all sighted in and I'll be hunting a place I hunt in Smith County Sat and Sun. Then leaving for my in-laws in FL on Sun night and won't be back til next Sun. Missing the best week of hunting here, again. Their rifle season opens Thursday. Crossbow season is open but with 2 little kids i doubt I have room to carry that big ol clunky thing, all the kid accessories, plus the guns I'll probably take just fer shootin'. Guess I'll do a little night time hog hunting and fishing til Thurs. Stopped and bought a solar security light on the way home tonight. -
Nice lion.
