  1. Thanks. I'll be shooting it from my Spkikes AR with a 16in. barrel 1:7 twist and a Savage BVSS bolt action. I'll start with 22gr. and work up. I'll post my results hopefully next weekend.
  2. Hate to dig up an old thread but I've just got down to my 8lb jug of SMP842 I bought this past summer. Just wondering if there is a consensus on what data to use? It looks like it burns close to H335. Looking to load 55gr bullets using 23-25 gr. Does this seem I'm heading in the right direction?
  3. Can't say for sure about Memphis prices but the Bass Pro in Nashville's prices are way out of line compared to other reloading suppliers in the area.
  4. The last of that I saw was at the Nashville gun show about a year ago. Its was never an easy round to find for some reason.
  5. There is something about lubrication that seems spark hot debates on message boards. Be it engine oil in cars and motorcycles(lawn mowers for that matter) or gun oil and lubes. Truth be told most any good oil will work in most applications. There is seldom a breakthrough in lubrication technology. I use ATF on all my firearms and other cheapskates like me use synthetic motor oil. I've used CLP/Breakfree in the Marine Corps, Tetra gun grease, and a few other wonder lubes out there and just have not seen any discernible difference in any of them. Some could prove better in extreme environments such as arctic cold or desert heat, none of we will likely to experience in the south east. Wipe your gun down from time to time put a light coat of your favorite oil, be it cheap or expensive(doesn't seem to matter) and shoot the finish off.
  6. My guess is they are mixing and matching due to what is available. I'm sure they are experiencing the same parts shortages as those of us who build our own. I have put together a couple lately and I've had to source parts from 2-3 different vendors and make compromises on the parts I really wanted because they were not available.
  7. That is what I use. I get them at TSC. Can't remember what size. They work well for me.
  8. Green Military & Police in Dolelson has a good selection of Surefires and a couple of others.
  9. They seem to be getting a pretty good reputation. The only thing some people do not like about them is the large "billboard" down the left side of the slide.
  10. I too have used the LW 40-9 conversion barrels. They drop right in with no gunsmithing needed. I cast my own 9mm so cheaper practice ammo for my Glock 35 was my main reason for the barrel. Hard to compare accuracy directly when doing a caliber conversion but I have been very happy with the results from the LW. You will find few complaints on the Storm Lake barrels but they are a little higher. I like the LW a. they are less expensive b. Glock is all they do and have good knowledge of the product.
  11. I thought the extension on the bolt of the 22 conversion got the l.r. past the freeboar part of the .223 chamber. I've always understood it was the fact the twist rate is not ideal for the l.r. Most 22 l.r. barrels are 1:16 +/-
  12. I bought 8lbs of of as well. Have not loaded any of it yet. Looks like it is proving to be a good powder.
  13. Just to throw one more in the mix, I have a Primary Arms red dot and have been very pleased with it and they seem to get good reviews.
  14. The M and P series scopes both have the target/tactical turrets.
  15. I have a couple of el paso saldery holsteres and like them very well.
  16. I always liked those. I never owned one or even shot one. If I remember right they were a casualty of the assault weapons ban. Looks like it could be a lot of fun.
  17. If you are closer to Nashville, Guns and Leather in Greenbrier and Outpost Armory in Christiana are "blue label" dealers.
  18. Depends on how "restored" you are looking for. The gold standard for firearm restoration is Turnbull Restorations. They are expensive but do some amazing work. I would say they usually reserved for family heirlooms, Grandpa's old WWI guns, etc...
  19. Check with Kandros Customs, I know he does it but don't know the price. He is in Hendersonville/Gallatin.
  20. I cast and load a 200gr LSWC in my 45. They need be seated down to near the shoulder of the bullet to function. The shoulder of the bullet should be just barely above the case. The long nose of the SWC design requires them to be seated a little deep. They function great in both of my 1911's.
  21. The Armory in Lebanon do Cerekote. http://www.thearmorytn.com/
  22. I went to get this belt from a local police supply store here in Nashville. The salesman directed me to the Wilderness Tactical belt. It is similar to the 5:11 but has an additional plastic stiffener in-between the two layers of nylon and has a metal buckle. According to him and it has been true for me, the Wilderness, carries a firearm much better, more support for the weight of the weapon. The bulk of the belt has not hampered me in anyway and it is thicker than the 5:11 you are considering.
  23. I had a 1911 from 1918. Should you decide to shoo it, use low pressure target ammo. They were not heat treated all the way through, only at stress points, so they tend to be fairly on the soft side as steels go. I shot mine about one a year or so, they are real treasures to own.
  24. I don't care what the kid did yesterday or what he may do tomorrow. That day he had just returned from the store and had a bag of Skittles and an ice tea in his hand. Some scary guy in a car was following him around and is now out confronting him with a weapon. All the while this kid is confused, scared and in the dark. This guy is standing close to him with weapon drawn and the 17 year old starts screaming!!!!!! HELP!!!!!HELP!!!!! The "watch commander" has now introduced deadly force to a kid who was armed with a bag of deadly Skittles..........Had he thrown those Skittles he may well have put out someones eye but alas they were still in his hand when his heart stopped beating and bled to death on a neighbors lawn.......Now a young man is dead.....we know not what he was or will be, because he is DEAD. My son, as many of your sons and daughters have made mistakes in their early lives. My son was caught with marijuana in high school and shoplifting later that year. The road he was headed down was one of concern. Can anyone call my son a punk and deserved to be shot.....He is now in the Air Force and a Metrologist, and is going to school to obtain an electrical engineering degree. I say all this to keep in mind, that we don't know what this would have been, or could have been......because he is now DEAD......For every one on this board who make claim you are pro life, how about supporting this kids right not be shot and killed..not only was he a fertilized egg...he was a viable person who is now DEAD.........
  25. Put your hands together tonight for .......the Killa ........ J.L.L!!!!!!
