    first handgun

I would recommend against a 22lr as your first handgun unless you are planning on buying a couple of guns by the time you get your permit. Sure you could carry a 22 as your EDC, but I don't know if I would do that. I am not a big Glock fan (primarily from an ergonomics standpoint), but it is what I would recommend. They are inexpensive, reliable, durable, and pretty darn accurate. If you are worried about not "breaking the bank," I would also recommend a 9mm (G17 or G19). While not as cheap as 22lr ammo, 9mm is still an inexpensive round to practice with. The other nice thing about Glocks, is there is a huge market for Glock parts.
  2. I'm guessing based on your avatar. Glock 17? Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun though.
  3. +1 on timcalhoun and LngRngShtr's comments I fixed the link in my earlier post. It is a good read on what was tested during the FBI 1911 contract. I am totally confused by some of the earlier comments. I don't see why accuracy and defense need to be mutually exclusive. As far as abuse goes, I take care of all of my guns regardless of their price. There is absolutely no way I would ever intentionally submerge my gun in water or pack it in mud just to prove how reliable it is. I am not in the military, a LEO, or a contractor, so I doubt any of my firearms will ever encounter extremely harsh conditions. I'm just a Joe Nobody who enjoys shooting guns. Still being fairly new to firearms (1.5 years), I have bought 15 guns (sold or traded a few of them) within that year and a half. After taking quite a few private lessons on how to shoot etc..., and running through rougly 15k rounds of ammo this year, I have started to learn what I like and dislike (still learning too) in handguns. I realized that the 1911 platform is my favorite, and I prefer a semi custom model over a mass-produced model. They are reliable, durable, and unbelieveably accurate (more than I ever will be). In regards to the durablity of semi custom 1911s, read the article. I doubt anyone on this forum has put their guns through that kind of testing. I am somewhat in disagreement with the whole concept of buy just what you need. Ultimately and if you can afford it, you ought to buy what you want not just necessarily just what you need. Are there those on this forum that could outshoot me using a Raven Arms Saturday Night Special while I am using my most accurate handgun (not a 1911 by the way)? Sure. Are there those on this forum that will urinate on their gun just to prove it is more forgiving and durable than one of my higher end handguns? Unfortunately, yes. In the end, it doesn't really matter. I bought them because they were what I wanted to buy. As stated earlier, they are more accurate than me, and given proper care, they will last a lot longer than me too.
  4. Very nice. I hope you enjoy it.
  5. I don't know half of those people.
  6. Have any good recommendations on a shot timer? Since I don't have an I-Phone, that is a nonstarter. I have been looking at a Pact Club III. Thanks.
  7. Congratulations. Are you working as well as going to school?
  8. I'm sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my prayers.
  9. I am off work for the remainder of the year and I have already started to get a little bored. I ran across these pics while doing some googling. Who Shot the Couch? Vintage Bad Fashions I am by no means a fashionista, but damn, some of you older gentlemen sure did wear some horrendous clothing back in the 70s. What is worse is that you have places that actually sell this vintage clothing, and it is expensive. May God have mercy on us if plaid skin tight polyester pants and platform shoes come back in style.
  10. Shoot no, it doesn't sound ungrateful at all. I just mentioned your church because it looked you guys did quite a bit yourselves, which I believe everyone agrees is a great thing. It is my belief that what you guys have done through your church is one of the things churches should be doing. I am thankful there are churches out there that still do them.
  11. Geeze. What is up with everyone going shooting? One might think that you all are a bunch of gun nuts or something.

    in bad taste

David will probably close this thread before anything starts again.
  13. Thanks for sharing Chucktshoes. I guess since TGO wasn't mentioned, which really doesn't matter, TGO can assume the role of Secret Santa. According to the article, it looks like your church did quite a bit.
  14. I will be more than likely shooting that day as well. I have no idea what I will be doing that evening. No plans so far.

    AR 15, .223 vs .308

    +1
  16. 200 rounds more today, still fine. I did manage to do a detail strip and cleaning today before I went to the range.

    AR 15, .223 vs .308

That is why my first rifle was a 5.56. I love shooting 45, but they don't get shot nowhere near as much as my 9mm or 22lr for the same reason.

    ^^^^^^^^ what they said.
  19. Thanks for sharing Mike.
  20. Don't know if this is anything like you want, but I was given an article on the FBI tests of a few high end 1911s that were in competition for the 1911 contract. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BTT/is_144_24/ai_57886947/?tag=content;col1 Link fixed.
  21. I was just wondering if you have heard from those who received some help how their holiday was.

    Who has an HK P30?

Last Thursday, I asked my local dealer to see if they can find me a P30 LS V1. If they can find me one, I may just seek you out for a holster.
  23. Hello, Ruby. Nice set of grips you have there.
  24. I would recommend Wilson as well. I use 47d for 8rd and 47ox for 7rd.
  25. Yes, I know its not a game. I just thought it was a very cool rendition of a fps.
