Ron Paul potential GOP presidential candidate?
mav replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I held my nose and voted for McCain as well. I actually think a little bit of vomit ran up my throat as I was filling in the circle beside his name. While I understand where you are coming from on deciding to stay home if there is no worthy candidate on the ballot, I think that is a mistake. If you remember back in the 2006 election, people, myself included, were so ticked off at the republican party. Many of those people decided to stay home. I was not one of those. Look at what we got in return, Pelosi and Reid. Look what they have done to our country. While I do stand by principles in the primaries, the general election is a little different. If my choice of candidate doesn't win in the primary, I will then vote for the better of the two candidates running. -
Oh, I agree totally. You are mistaken if you think that I am laying blame for all of our problems solely at the feet of unions. They are only part of the problem, but a huge problem nonetheless. Ultimately, the blame lies with the citizenry. It is the people who vote in their government, and it is that government that has setup this environment of corruption. No, I don't think we are beaten yet, but to be honest with you, it is looking pretty depressing.

I don't really know how this got off track. The OP was referring to the union, not individual teachers. I believe there was once a time in which unions were needed. However, I believe that time has now passed. Unions are making us less competitive on the world market, and the public sector unions are draining us financially. Perhaps it is time for the unions to be phased out.

Where are you getting this information? The last that I had read/heard was that federal employees on average were making almost double their private sector counterparts. You can google this and find a plethora of information stating this is the case. This was fairly big news last year and ticked a bunch of people off.

Just my two cents. I don't think that where a person went to school or their level of advanced education is necessarily indicative of how they will perform on the job. There are instances in which those lowly community college graduates actually perform better than their ivy league counterparts. Another example can be seen by looking at those who do not have any college and have home schooled their kids. Some of those kid's test scores have exceeded those who have received an education in the public system. Now, I am sure your wife is an excellent teacher and should be compensated for her ability. That is one of the reasons I do not like unions. I want competition to flourish where those who perform above and beyond are compensated for their achievements, and those who do not perform are given the boot or they receive a very small salary. I want more than just time on the job to dictate what a person's salary should be.

All of that was very much understood. My original comment was not directed at the article, which actually states the truth about the NEA's advocacy. I just made a comment emphasizing my contempt for the phrase "It's for the children," which we hear so much in political discourse.

Nice 1911s.

Everytime I hear the phrase "It's for the children" come out of a politician's or political activist's mouth, my initial thought it always, "Bulls**t."

You sure do nice holster work.

I just ran across this video a few minutes ago. It appears that Sheriff Guy of McMinn county wants to suspend the sale of all drugs containing psuedoephedrine for 100 days. Where do these people come from? http://www.newschannel9.com/video/c/1137849423/local-news/801091150001/local-news Do we want to tell the vast majority of society who may suffer from a cold or allergy tough s**t just because some jackasses are making illicit drugs from a common and effective over the counter cold medicine?

That was awesome. -
If you remember from One Second After, they were also taking in chemists, so I might have some use.

+1 I don't understand what the big deal is on open carry. When I see people open carry I don't really think anything of it. I might stare a few seconds just to see what kind of gun they are carrying, but that is about it. In regards to mall ninjas, maybe I don't get out all that much. I have never seen a person in public all decked out in tactical gear looking like they just came from a photo shoot for Blackhawk. I guess I just don't go to those type of places, or perhaps this is just an internet phenomenon. Concerning the lady who is berating you for open carrying and stating how she doesn't feel safe. I wouldn't say the first thing to her. I would probably stare at her like she was on crack, and if possible, I would cut a fart. That way instead of just not feeling safe, she could be offended.

I think the two irreverends are pretty much insignificant now with most americans. As far as Herman Cain goes, I like him. Unfortunately, it seems that the candidates that I like never seem to win the nomination. If by some chance he does win, I can't wait for the usual Uncle Tom, ain't got no slave blood in him, and he ain't down for the struggle claims to be spewed about in the media. Its funny how all those who decry racism are the very ones who are master practitioners.

Very nice, except the grips. I had the same grips on my Nighthawk T3. You can definitely get a good grip with them, but they are a little too much for my taste.

I also like the SAR-6. However, both are incredibly nice. In regards to having a knife problem, I am slowly getting one for fixed blades. I am contemplating on getting a CR Professional Soldier.

While I have never had an office job, I have had a labor intensive job as well as a lab job. I have found that the lab job a lot more tiring and stressful than the labor intensive job. Having 50 something people running to you for answers every 2 minutes can really be a drain on you.

Nice. I have the ZT 0300. They are great knives. I think you will really like yours.

No, I do not have access to DDT. Can I make it? I have never run the reaction, but I don't think it would be a problem. Will I make any? No.

One of the nice things about being in the chemical industry is you have access to the good stuff. I make a dilute solution of permethrin carried in a solvent with emulsifiers. There are no bugs inside my house, at least not those that are living. I believe that weak solutions of permethrin are available to the general public. It is by no means natural, but it is effective. If you have any animals inside your house, I would not recommend using it.

That is a huge amount of weight loss. Congratulations. Based on the small number of posts, I don't know if this thread is going to make it. I guess there isn't a lot of interest on the matter. That's too bad.

I have always liked and admired Ron Paul. Even though I disagree with Paul on a few issues, I would still vote for him before many of those who may be running. However, I think the argument is moot because I don't think he stands a chance at winning the republican nomination much less the general election. I don't know about you guys, but I am not really that excited over the crop of soon-to-be 2012 presidential contenders. I am getting nervous whether any of them would be able to take down Obama. It is too bad we can't have someone like Andrew Napolitano. -
While higher gas/oil prices are immediately seen at the pump, they can also be seen in about everything else. Just think about how much within our society is derived from oil. I work in the chemical field and I can tell you that we are experiencing price increases like nothing I have ever seen. It seems like every week prices are going up. We are forced to come up with cheaper alternatives, and if that is not an option, we have no choice but to pass the price increases on to the manufacturer using our products. The manufacturer then passes those prices on to the consumer.

+1. I couldn't do that at 20 yards with my best handgun, especially quick shots.

That is good. Let us know your progress. One of the nice things about weight loss is that the weight comes off faster than it was put on. I am hoping that people will get interested in this thread and post their successes in achieving their fitness goal.
