You could pick up a Chris Reeve Professional Soldier. It is what I am using as a neck knife.

I don't live in the Brainerd area, but I don't think it is all that bad. I have no problem with being in the area at anytime of the day. In regards to being a "cesspool" and not "feel(ing) safe," there are a lot worse places in the city and in the state that surpass Brainerd. Ever since I started carrying and practiced a lot, I feel pretty safe anywhere I go. Sorry to hear about the officer. Very tragic.

If you still haven't got it, you can send me a PM and I would be willing to meet you somewhere to help you with it. I have a Mark III Hunter which I have field and detailed stripped numerous times.
-
Wow, that is great. Congratulations.
-
Yes, it is a pain at first. Once you have done it a few times, it is very easy. Detail stripping on the other hand is definitely a pain in the butt.

Another nice thing about the 1911 is you don't have to give up ammo capacity. You can always go with a double stack 2011. While I love my 1911s, my 9mm 2011 is by far my favorite handgun I own.

+1 I haven't still figured that one out. The title of my thread included the word "gripe." It would seem to me that if you didn't like to listen to (read in this case) people complaining then why read the thread and respond. In my case, the only complaint I had with gun shows is there is hardly ever any higher end guns or knives. They would be nice to see from time to time instead of buying sight unseen online.

Anyone ever play classical guitar? I have always loved classical guitar, but never made the time to play it.
-
Amen to that. Next thing you know your savings account is crying, "Uncle," and you have multiple thousands worth of gear spread around your house.
-
Just keep in mind that if you wrap the handle you will not be able to use the sheath unless you only wrap half of the handle. If I run across a custom sheath maker, I wouldn't mind doing some paracord braiding on it.

I used to have an Alvarez Yairi Bob Weir WY-1K. It was a fantastic guitar. To be honest with you, it was almost as good as my Taylor K-14ce even though the Taylor was over double the price.

:rant:Is it just me, or does anyone else have any problems with their local gun shows? It seems like everytime we have a gun show I tell myself that I am not going to waste the money and go to the show. However, I end up going anyway in the hopes that this one will be a little bit different. Unfortunately, it never is. Every show has the same old stuff and/or vendors. I am not in the market for an antique firearm, I do not collect Nazi regalia, nor do I want to pay msrp (or more) for a modern handgun or rifle. When it comes to knives, I do not collect Case knives nor do I want a $5 p.o.s. made in China knife that falls apart after two weeks. I am usually not in the market for anything in particular when I go to a show, but I am always willing to buy something if it strikes my fancy. I would love to see a couple of semi-custom 1911s when I go to a show. I would also love to see some Microtechs, Chris Reeve, Zero Tolerance etc... knives. I know there is a market for these items, but I almost never see them at a show. If I do see a nice knife, the dealer is usually asking almost double the normal price. I always thought you were supposed to be able to see stuff at a gun show that you can't find at your local firearms dealer. I have been thinking about this all day. Not too long ago there was a thread on gun snobbery. Perhaps I am a snob who deludes himself thinking he is not.

I went and it sucked.

This thread made me pull out my guitar and play some. I am absolutely corroded. Here is a pic of my Fender Jeff Beck strat along with the Ibanez. I hate the color of the strat, but it was a free guitar (brother gave it to me a few years ago) and it sure does play. I can't take a pic of my Jackson since it is at my brother's house on Long Island. TGODavid, I don't know how familiar you are with music (i.e. ever played an instrument before) nor what type of music you want to play, but here is a link to a study series I used when I first began playing. Guitar Lessons. Even though I know how to read music (played trumpet for eight years), the Troy Stetina series does not require you to be able to read. And if you are a rock or metal guy, then this should be right up your alley.

I havent really played in the last 3 years, but before that I played for about 7 years. I ended up getting bured out. I would practice everyday about 3 - 4 hours constanly working on techinque. My favorite guitarists were Satriani and Malmsteen, so if I wanted to play their stuff I had to build up the chops. Anyway, sitting at home and playing along to a cd or working on scales eventually got pretty boring, so I ended up quitting. At the peak of my hobby, I had 12 guitars, 3 amps, and a nice rack. I sold off most of my stuff except 3 guitars and my half stack. All I have left is my Ibanez J-Custom RG8270, pre-Fender Jackson Soloist SL-2H, Fender Jeff Beck strat, and my Marshall TSL-100. I regret selling my Taylor K-14ce. It was the best acoustic I have ever played and it was absolutely beautiful. I might pull one of the guitars out of the case from time to time and fool around for an hour. I am hoping I will get bit by the bug again and start playing more regularly. This is my J Custom. I always hated Ibanez, but some of the guitars they make are really great. Oh, by the way, if you are planning on buying a LP, I would defintely buy a used one. I owned a wine red 98 Gibson LP Custom, which was a fantastic guitar, but Gibsons have always been way overpriced.

Yes, they had one at the armory last year. I will probably go to this one. While not as good as the Camp Jordan show, it is better than the show at the Shirne.

FN 5.7 pistol. Somebody tell me why its the best hangun in the world.

What do you mean by quality? That is very subjective. As I stated earlier, I own a Five Seven. I also several high end 1911s. While I absolutely love the Five Seven, it does not shoot as well as any of my semi-custom 1911 or 2011s, nor is it as accurate. I am certainly not all that great of a shooter, but that has been my experience. -
Doesn't it make you feel all warm and fuzzy that taxpayers spent all this money to provide a nice place for thugs and gangs to hang out while posting signs restricting honest taxpaying citizens? You have to really ask the question, what jackass thought a gun buster sign would actually deter criminals from carrying on the property?

Looks like you guys are still going strong. Good job. I wanted to post an update on some of the results I have achieved over the last couple of weeks. First off, I didn't change anything on my diet the last two weeks. My body has now adjusted to the new diet and my weight gain has slowed down, which is actually a good thing. Gaining too quickly puts on too much fat. I am looking for quality gains, not just poundage. Body weight on 3-7-11: 183 lbs. Body weight on 3-21-11: 188 lbs. Increases over the last 2 weeks: Biceps (flexed): 0.25" Forearms (flexed): 0.25" Chest: 1.50" (Huge jump) Waist: No change Shoulders: 1.00" Legs: 0.50" Calves: 0.50" Total increase since 2-21-11 Body weight: 15 lbs. Biceps: 0.75" Forearms: 1.00" Chest: 2.50" Waist: No change Shoulders: 3.00" Legs: 1.25" Calves: 0.75" Overall, I think the results have been excellent. I am anticipating achieveing my body weight goal within the next month or two. I will post my results again in a couple of weeks.

Is it the best handgun in the world? No, and I own one. I bought mine long before that jacka$$ murdered those people at Ft. Hood. However, the gun is extremely light, has a very high capacity, and has moderate recoil. It is a great gun and fun to shoot, but I seriously don't think it is the best by any stretch of the imagination. I would take my Nighthawk 2011 9mm Talon any day of the week over the Five Seven. Now if FN made a compact model Five Seven with a better trigger, then I might rank it up in the top 10 handguns. Your avatar looks familiar Will. -
I ended up getting one from Osograndeknives, OsoGrandeKnives.com: Online Shopping for Knives, Kitchen Cutlery, Tools, Sharpeners, Hunting Gear and more. They were the only dealer, at the time, that I could find that had one in stock. Their price was a little better than anyone else due to free shipping. I will probably buy from them again.

While waiting for the very last batches of Chris Reeve one piece knives to become available, I have been looking for a lightweight fixed blade knife under 4". I found what I was looking for a few months ago in a Chris Reeve Professional Soldier. The Professional Soldier was a collaboration with Bill Harsey at the request of the owners of Professional Soldiers, Professional Soldiers ® - Home, which is a forum for retired and active duty special forces soldiers. I received my new knife this evening. It is an incredibly nice and well made knife as are all Chris Reeve knives. I knew the knife was light (3oz.), but you don't realize how light it really is until you have it in your hands. I am not quite sure whether I will carry this knife on my belt or use it as a neck knife, but I am sure it will become an EDC knife. Anyway, here is what it looks like. Please forgive the crude pic. I am using my cell phone camera. I am too cheap to buy a nice camera.
