  2. Who defines what is offensive?
  3. The biggest problem I have with these special interest pledges is that the issues pale in comparison to the potential devestating problems we face. Considering the situation we are in, conservative candidates should be running on three things: 1) Stop spending too much of our money, 2) Entitlement reform, which includes repealing Obamacare, and 3) Decentralization of the government. If none of the above problems get fixed, then the game is over.
  4. I cannot believe her handlers are so damn stupid to let her sign such a pledge. She is clearly the more conservative candidate of those running, so why does she need to sign a pledge? Does she honestly think that those voters are going to flock to the more liberal Romney if she doesn't sign the pledge? Sheesh. Personally, I hate all of these stupid pledges. Everybody wants you to sign their pledge. When she became a representative, she took an oath to uphold the constitiution. All she has to do is make good on that oath, and that should cover all pledges.
  5. What is a surgical triangle? The only targets we have at our range are the standard targets and the zombie crap.
  6. I wasn't aware that the Knoxville Sheriff's dept. were raiding small private poker games. While I have a lot of respect for our LEO's, isn't this just a little much? Knox deputies raid Bexhill subdivision poker game » Knoxville News Sentinel
  7. Well, it has been a little over a month since I have been to the range, but I managed to go today after I got off from work. Just out of curiosity, I tried that front sight exercise (around 8 yards) I mentioned in my previous post. The results weren't quite as good as what I had previously stated. Out of sixty rounds, roughly half were within the x-ring, around 40% were within the 10-ring, and I had 6 shots that hit in the 9-ring. When I transitioned to the head, I had 37 hits and 3 shavers (slight misses) on the left side of the face. The results might not be as good as what I may normally do, but I was still pleased considering it has been a little over a month since I was at the range. If I don't shoot every week, I do notice a drop in my performance. But since I don't do competition (I'm not really good enough for that), it doesn't really matter. What I did today is good enough to help me out of bad situation should one ever come.
  8. I agree with you, but not in this case. This p.o.s. had been living here, albeit illegally, since he was 2 years old. Obama and his ilk have been demanding citizenship for illegals that have been in this country most of their lives. Well.. Texas treated him as a citizen and gave him what he deserved.
  9. What is the phrase everyone uses here? Ah yes, "Pics or it didn't really happen."
  10. I am very sorry to hear about your illness. I wish the best for you and your family. Ya know, it was through your website that I actually got into shooting a few years ago. It was where I learned of Carl's place, which is where I took my permit class. Through your site is also where I learned the directions to Prentice Cooper. May you have a speedy recovery.
  11. I am not really doing a combat drill since I am not drawing from a holster. If I incorporate drawing from a holster, then the results aren't as good; I defintely get into the 9-ring, which is still okay from my viewpoint. I only started doing this exercise to learn how to shoot faster and be able to maintain a sight picture. My weakness is one hand shooting and double taps. I absolutely suck at both. For some reason or another I anticipate at times when performing double taps. I doubt I will ever get any better at these since I never practice them. I have seen Jonnin shoot one-handed at 15 yards. He is way better at it than me.
  12. One thing I would like to point out first is be careful when taking advice from people on the internet and even this forum. Don't take everything as being the truth. I have read a bunch of claims in regards to shooting accuracy that appear almost miraculous. Some of the claims would make Rob Leatham seem like an amateur. I think TGODavid's post is pretty much spot on in regards to situational accuracy. I used to shoot for accuracy everytime I went to the range. Everything would be slow fire and trying to make the smallest groups I can. Now, I am more along the lines of defensive type shooting where I am still trying to be accurate, but I am shooting very fast, but controlled. For example, one exercise I do is front sight watching. I load up a mag with ten rounds and put the target around 7-10 yards down range. I start shooting at a pace of 3-4 seconds for the 10 rounds. What I am looking for in this exercise is the ability to keep my focus on the front sight under recoil because I am still shooting for accuracy. I can put all of the shots within the x and 10 ring. If I feel really good, which is extremely rare, I have been able to put all within the x-ring using my G34. When I transition to the head, my grouping isn't as good, but all of the rounds find their mark, which in the real world is good enough. In terms of slow fire accuracy, I am not fantastic, but I am decent. There are a bunch of this forum that can shoot way better than me. There are also some that can BS you to death too.
  13. I currently look at my FICA as just more income tax. I continue to pay it in and never and will never receive any of it back. Speaking of going bats**t crazy, I will be there if the government ever attempts to seize my private investments, such as my 401-K. I know it has been talked about on several occasions over the last few years. The socialists are just salivating over that 2 plus trillion people have in their personal retirement savings. To quote Jack Nicholson playing the Joker, "This town (Washington) need an enema."
  14. I remember a thread quite some time ago that broke out in a heated debate between several forum members and a local gun dealer who claimed everyone is a crook who buys guns online because they do not pay state tax on the firearm. Whether the tax is new, which it is not, is irrelevant since it is not enforced. Enforcement of an existing unenforced tax law in my mind represents a new tax. If that is indeed what Haslam intends, then the arguments against the tax still stands. It will not solve the fiscal problems. It will only add to the burden of taxpayers because the government will not control its spending.

    At the range...

It all depends on what type of shooting I am doing. Typically it is around 100 - 200 rounds of either 22 or 9mm. Every now and then I will do some work with 45, but not often. It gets too expensive.
  16. I am for privatizing part of NASA. I don't know who wrote this article, but I absolutely cannot accept the premise that you have to pay for tax cuts. A tax cut is not the same as spending.
  17. 6.8 AR is correct. An internet tax is not the answer. If you think the government won't reduce spending, which is the correct thing to do, do you actually think the government will use the new source of revenue to pay it's debt? Hell no they won't. We will be stuck with the same level of debt and fiscal irresponsibility. Only now, we will have a new tax to go along with the fiscal stupidity. This is one of the reasons I do not want a consumption tax unless we repeal the 16th. Paying one of them is bad enough, and I certainly don't want to have to pay both. Reducing spending is the only answer.
  18. Online store: Bud's or Top Gun Supply Brick and mortar: My local Shooter's Depot. I always have to special order what I want mainly because I am a gun snob, but they all are a pleasure to deal with.
  19. Not trying to hijack the thread, but it is refreshing to read from someone making an honest assessment of their abilities. The way a lot of people talk when it comes to firearms and shooting you would think they are in the league of Sevigny and Leatham. When you get them on the range, the excuses fly about as fast as the bullets.
  20. Did y'all hear about this on the news? I watched the following video, and wow. I have never seen anything like it.
  21. I am glad I joined. Where else can I bitch and whine and still learn something or be entertained in the process? What can I say? It is the male equivalent of "The View." I still haven't decided which moderator I would liken to Behar.
  22. I would say the same thing for the poster's stance on owb and paddle holsters. You are probably correct that the rivot mounts are probably not as secure as other holsters. However, I think they are decent for a cheap (~ $20) holster. I use one for only one gun I own. Definitely better than a paperbag. I think that video demonstrates why people shouldn't go around open-carrying a cheap owb rivot-mounted paddle holster while lost in their own little world.
  23. I don't think anyone is denying them the unalienable rights of life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness, nor do I think that is what they are advocating. They are demanding citizenship and/or those rights that come with citizenship. As I stated earlier, I am not of the opinion that all illegal immigrants should be deported. I would, however, like to have a set of laws that are enforced so as to not further burden the taxpayer. If one is honest, they have to admit that it is totally unfair to the taxpayers of this country for a large swath of another country(ies)'s poor and destitute to illegally enter this country and collect and/or demand benefits such as education, healthcare, and housing assistance. If we consider the following: - we have over 14 trillion in debt, - all of our states are in debt (some more than others), - the unemployment rate is > 9% and underemployment ranges from 18 - 20%, - we have skyrocketing healthcare costs, and the boondoggle "Obamacare" is just going exacerbate the problem, - we are engaged in two wars and three or four other conflicts, - the number of foreign nationals in our prison system is increasing, and - we have almost reached the point where 50% of the population doesn't pay federal income tax. I think we have enough problems of our own that need to be solved first before allowing another country to crap all over us by exporting their citizens to us. Is it too much to ask our federal government to represent it's citizens and do their damn job instead of sticking it to us because they (both parties) see a potentially large future voting bloc? If the fed doesn't want to do anything about the problem because they are afraid of being labeled by the media and open borders advocates as mean-spirited or xenophobic, then they need to get the hell out of the way and not interfere when the states try to fix this mess.
  24. I have that configuration on my AR. I still suck with a rifle, but I like it.

There is one thing that I did gather from this entire process. It strengthened my utter contempt of the media.
