  1. What about a Benchmade Rant? It is right around the price you are looking at (even cheaper on ebay). Amazon has a clip point for $85 and a tanto for $72. The blade is around 4.5" and it is also made in the USA (if that matters any).
  2. Nope, it still wouldn't be a stalemate. Obama could still push a lot of his agenda through executive orders, and as we both know, this president has no fear of abusing executive orders.
  3. While I'm pretty sure most have never heard of Weasel Zippers, I was just reading some comments from someone who does have a fair amount of influence. I was reading where Glen Beck stated he would vote for Paul as a third party candidate if Gingrich got the GOP nomination, and he hates a lot of Paul's foreign policy views. Like Beck or not (think he is crazy or not), he still is pretty influential, and that is a damning indictment against Gingrich's supposed conservative credentials. This is going to be a very interesting primary. Alas, the more I talk to people about the election, I get more of a "we are so screwed" feeling.
  4. I like it. He kept hammering that voting for the most "electable" candidate is really nonsensical. I agree with that sentiment in regards to the primaries. If people continue to repeat the mistakes of the past by imploying some b.s. strategy of nominating the most "electable" candidate then there is no way we will ever get a candidate that will possibly bring forth positive change. I haven't figured out why Republicans are always the ones who seem to have this problem. In 2008, we were told we had to nominate McCain. He was the most electable candidate who would appeal to moderates. Well... that didn't work out so well. Democrats on the other hand voted for who they thought or liked the best. A junior senator for Illinois without any experience in anything against a seasoned political opponent, and they won. Go figure. As I stated in another post, I believe it will be more difficult for Romney or Gingrich to defeat Obama when compared to other candidates. Romney is hated by conservatives. While conservatives do not have that the same amount of ire for Gingrich as they do Romney, liberals and moderates hate Gingrich. Brokered convention anyone?
  5. Here's one vote for who has never heard of it.
  6. I guess I need to answer my own question. It is a toss up for me between Chris Reeve and Kai USA. While I only have the one Sebenza (for now), I have a bunch of CR fixed blades. All of CR products are absolutely top quality. They are elegant while retaining a hard use practicality My favorite folder and fixed blade are both CR knives. The only downside to CR products is they are relatively pricey, and this is the reason I chose Kai USA as my co-favorite. Kai and its divisions have a huge product line at varying prices and styles. You can go from the very inexpensive Chinese knives up to the Sebenza priced ZT0777. They also manufacture moderately priced (~$100) high quality knives such as the ZT 0350, which is considered by several on the forum as one of the best deals on the market. They manufacture styles from the very traditional folder to the uber-tactical ZT line.
  7. Do you have a favorite knife manufacturer? If so, why are they your favorite?
  8. Question for the SMEs. Did ZT put out a black blade 0551? The information I have read says they did, but I have not seen any pictures.
  9. I tell my family not to buy me anything and save their money or buy themselves something. If there is something I want I will buy it myself. I will probably buy some more knives. Now, if any of you fine gentlemen wish to purchase them for me I would be grateful as I do accept charity.

    RUGER SR 1911

Welcome to TGO. Use the search function. There have been several threads on this model. If you don't find what you want ask away. Nice gun by the way, especially for the money.
  11. I did this last month. I picked up 11 new knives. 4 Chris Reeves, 5 ZTs, and 2 Kershaws. Next month I will be bitching that I am not saving enough.
  12. I have never made one, but I ran across this site a while back. They sell everything you need. KnifeKits.com : Designer Knife Kits - Knife Making Supplies - Knife Making Tools
  13. Well.. I finally found one of these at a decent price. It seems the 4" one piece knives are in very high demand. I can only attribute this to being able to legally carry it and/or conceal it. This was the first knife I saw in the one piece range that made me want to get one. I will definitely have to get a new sheath for this one. I do not wear 2" belts, so this is a no go for me. 14. I managed to pick up one of these the other day, and they are really cool. The knife is a ZT 0500, also known as the Mudd knife. It was the 2005 winner of Blade's Most Innovative Design award. The ZT 0500 was designed by Grant and Gavin Hawk. They designed the knife to be virtually impervious to dirt, sand, oil, water, etc... by their "Hawk-Lock" and incorporating polyurethane seals around the pivot. The knife has the same tungsten DLC coating as on other ZT products and the blade is made of 154CM stainless. The handles are aluminum with G-10 scaling. Specs: Blade length: 3.75" Overall length: 8.875" Weight: 4.9 oz. This is one of the easiest opening non-spring assisted folders I have seen (way easier than the ZT 0551). It is also hair shaving sharp. I don't know if this would be practical as an EDC because it is very thick. Still, it is extremely cool, and I am glad I got it. 15. To be honest with you Lester, I don't really care for Ronulans either. Some of them are pushy and their only response to anything is Ron Paul. I know a few of them and I will not discuss politics with them. I would like to make note that there is a difference between those who support Paul and those that are fanatical about Paul, i.e. Ronulans.
  16. For a long time I have been a fan of Mark Levin. I would listen to him for at least an hour every evening M - F as I drove home from work. I've read his books and I considered him my favorite talk radio guy. All of that has changed. As I was listening to Levin on my way home this evening he went into one of his diatribes on Ron Paul and those who support him. Listening to Levin criticize Paul doesn't nor has it ever bothered me. However, calling Ron Paul and those who support him unpatriotic and/or anti-american (along with a half-hearted charge of antisemitism) is way over the top. Now, I totally understand how people can criticize Paul's foreign policy. To be honest with you, I am a little iffy on some of his viewpoints and sometimes he makes statements that are cringe-worthy. Nonetheless, I feel that our domestic issues trump anything foreign. On the domestic side, I feel that Paul is the only one with a plan (or ideas) serious enough to tackle some of the problems we are facing. All of the others, outside of maybe Bachmann, come across to me as big spenders with no real intent on shrinking the size of the federal government. Reducing the spending and shrinking the federal government is of the utmost importance. That is the primary reason I am voting for Paul in the primary. As long as this remains a free country and there are at least two people present, there will be disagreements. However, when those disagreements evolve into slanderous attacks on an individual's love of country, a line has been crossed. How dare you sir? We are entering uncharted waters in this country and a lot of people are scared. We have high unemployment, the underemployment rate keeps flirting with 20%, we have an exponentially increasing federal government who is continually granting itself new powers, our money is becoming worth less, we have $15 trillion in debt growing by almost a trillion a year, our unfunded liabilities are almost $120 trillion, we have spent over a trillion dollars on these wars with no definable end, etc... The list can go on and on. Does Paul have the answers? Will his policies work and are they correct? To be totally honest, I don't know. I do know however, that if we keep doing the same thing over and over every election cycle voting for politicians who say one thing and do another, there is only one possible outcome. Ruination. To answer your charge, Mr. Levin, of being unpatriotic and unamerican for supporting Paul I will keep it brief. Unless you want to pubically apologize for making grossly generalized accusations, go **** yourself. Not all Paul supporters agree with everything he espouses, but they still believe he is better than the other candidates running. I don't know about you folks, but this whole you are either with us or against us (you are either a patriot or you are not) mentality is really a bunch of crap. Unfortunately, it happens on both sides of the aisle. Rant over.

    My newest 1911.

Ooooh, nice one. Congrats. I hope you are prepared to wait on the SA Custom Shop. My SA Professional should be in around the first of the year and I placed my order in September. September 2010!
  19. I got a couple of new knives that I have wanted for quite some time. The first is a Kerhsaw G10 Offset. The Offset is a Ken Onion design. It equipped with a G10 grip (nothing new there) along with a 3.75" metal injected molded 440C blade coated with tungsten. Overall the blade is 9" and it is a relatively heavy knife weighing 8.5 oz (about the same weight as the ZT 0300). The Offset was winner of Blade's Overall Knife of the Year for 2005. Overall, this knife is just plain bad a$$. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us The next knife is also a Ken Onion designed Kershaw. The Kershaw Tyrade 1850 is a limited edition composite blade (154CM/D2) with carbon fiber inserts and a titanium frame lock. The knife also features Kershaw's SpeedSafe system. The overall length is 8.63" with a 3.63" blade. The 1850 Tyrade was winner of Blade's Overall Knife of the Year for 2007. Another bad a$$ knife. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us While I still like my Sebenza better than these, they are both keepers.
  20. I just recently acquired my fifth 0350. I had a little issue with this one. The flipper did not work all that well. The blade was so stiff that it required a lot of force in order to get the blade to lock out. A small 1/8th turn on the tension and bingo. It is perfect. I only wanted to point this out in case anyone else has or may have an issue like this with their 0350.

    My first 1911!!

    Nice one. Congrats.
  22. It's too bad they couldn't have distracted him by throwing a protein bar in the yard.
  23. Well, which one is it? A Tramontina, Trantimonia, or a Tramatina?
  24. Worst movie ever? John Travolta's Battlefield Earth. Just plain ol' sucked.
