Hmmm, something like that. However, that was an entirely separate matter. I had to have that gun so it doesn't count.

I just received my XM-24. I thought the ZT0300 was robust. It is nothing like the XM-24. I don't really understand why a lot of people won't carry their XMs. This is a knife that is meant to be used and is built well enough to handle very hard use. I will carry mine. I will post some pics when I get it all dressed out.

Oh, I know about it. I just don't remember it. Just trying to be funny.

I don't remember that one. I wasn't born yet.

I posted one of these last year. I did halfway decent or really sh**y depending on how you look at it on last year's resolution. I only bought four-five guns. This year's resolution as I stated in another area of the forum is to really cut back on my knife buying. I have one gun and two knives that I have already committed to buying, meaning they were preordered and/or already paid for. Outside of those, I don't plan on buying anything else except a lot of ammo to shoot and maybe one additional gun. What are your New Year's Resolutions?
-
I was just fooling around with some of my knives when it dawned on me how much money I have spent the last couple of months on knives. While I have the money, it was still a lot to spend. Being normally tight-assed when it comes to money, I sort of cringed when I totaled it up. I have two knives coming next year, the ZT 0561 and the ZT0777. Another will be after the first of the year (the XM-24), but it is already paid for. After those, that is it, no mas. That is my New Year's Resolution, to stop buying so many knives. Wish me luck.

Yes and no, it depends on what the definition of conservatism is and who is being asked. It is true that Paul votes no on a lot of bills that are labeled as conservative or are brought forth by conservative members. He votes no a lot because he believes the federal government has no place in doing what is being voted on. That is precisely why he has a mixed voting record. So to say Santorum has a more conservative record than Paul, maybe, it all depends on how you look at it. However, Paul is the hands down winner on who would have a voting record that more closely adheres to the constitution. That is a fact that is even recognized by those who despise Paul. I am not looking for big government from the right side of the aisle, we have had that before. I will vote for it before continuing with the b.s. we currently have, but I want a federal government that is half its current size. Sorry, but Santorum is not that guy who will do that. Just to note, I am not a Ronulan. I do not believe Paul is the second coming. I am allergic to aluminum. I do not think Paul is the answer to all things, nor do I believe that he will be able to do a lot of what he wants to do. However, he can definitely scale back the executive branch, which I doubt any of the other candidates will do, and he keep congress in check by a liberal use of his veto power. He can also nominate strict constructionists to various benches including the SCOTUS.

Knoxville gun show at Chihlowee Park Dec 30 - Jan 1.
mav replied to mav's topic in Events and Gatherings
Yep, they do that for most gun shows in TN. If you ever go to VOW on a weekend (I know today was an exception) it is always best to check and see if a gun show is scheduled. -
I was thinking about this thread when I was up in Knoxville today. I took my family to eat at the Texas Roadhouse (not bad), and left our waiter a 40% tip. While I don't make enough money to leave anywhere near a $1400 tip, I do try to tip generously when possible. My family always gripes at me about tipping too much. I have always felt it is just a way of being nice and saying thank you. I remember one summer playing at the either the Grand Dunes or Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach. It was incredibly hot that day (~95 F). One of the attendants was wiping off my clubs after the round. I tipped the guy $20, and I will never forget the smile on his face and what he said to me, "I like your style."

Knoxville gun show at Chihlowee Park Dec 30 - Jan 1.
mav replied to mav's topic in Events and Gatherings
I was there between 1:20 and 3:00. I had to wait in line 20 minutes in order to get in. It was packed. I didn't really care about going, but my brother was down from Long Island, so I figured I would take him to a big gun show. I didn't really find anything I needed or wanted. I was up there mainly for knives. However, I did run across one item that I thought was a deal. A vendor had a SS Wilson Combat Protector at a really good price, but I certainly don't need another 1911. I think my mother and sister had a good time. They were probably the only two people at the show who were specifically looking and buying non-firearm related merchandise. It is too bad that nobody has a TGO name tag on so I would be able to recognize someone from the forum. I have been up there several times, and I am sure I have probably seen people from this forum, but I have no idea what they look like. -

I believe the answer is yes. If I am not mistaken, Thompson's name was still on the ballot even after he dropped out after South Carolina. -
Tennessean writing about CCW reciprocity laws
mav replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I think Councilman Vallone Jr. is pretty smart. This could backfire back on them if they try to make an example of this woman. It is all over the internet, heck we have 4 or 5 threads on this forum alone covering the same story. If NYC wants to have these kinds of law then that is fine by me. However, there needs to be some common sense exceptions applied when it is warranted. -
Wow, and I thought I was a good tipper, guess not. Congratulations for your daughter.

I do not know if my PM got through since we had a scheduled maintenance when I sent it. I would like to participate if any slots are still available. Thanks.

Tennessean writing about CCW reciprocity laws
mav replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Just out of curiosity, I wonder what the percentage of TN HCP holders actually look at reciprocity maps and/or laws. I am not making an excuse, but I would bet the number is 10% or less. While I do not want the federal government getting involved with creating a national reciprocity, I do think it is really overkill by the DA persuing felony gun possession on this woman. Yes, she was totally stupid and she should have been responsible for knowing the laws, but to seek imprisonment, stripping of the right to own a firearm, and removing voting priveleges, that is just crazy. Seize her gun and give her a stiff fine and go on to the next case. -
Well, you will have to stay on this forum another 45 plus years at the rate you are going to catch up to some of the post leaders. That assumes they stop posting.

If you don't mind me asking, what made you get rid of the Umnumzaan? I really like mine. Next week will be interesting. I will get to compare some of my flippers to the XM-24. Thanks to Steve's advice, I manage to get one of those the other day. I will be interested to play around with it.

I was thinking about driving up to Knoxville tomorrow and I noticed that there is a gun show at Chihlowee Park starting Dec. 30. Gun Show Listings ForTennesee I have been up there several times, but not on a Friday. Does anyone know if this is correct? Thanks.

Hey folks. As some of you are aware, I purchased a new Sebenza a while back. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/knives-bladed-tools/65167-got-new-folder.html This knife has been my daily carry and I have really enjoyed it. The Gadsden snake and motto have been a conversation starter on numerous occasions. I get to give people a brief history lesson and then transition the conversation to why I like Ron Paul. Anyway, I made following comment to Mac in my Sebenza thread: It appears that I can now add knives to the vices that make me do things I wouldn't normally do, guns and women are the other two. I recently picked up a new Chris Reeve/Wilson Combat Umnumzaan/Star-tac. I want to give a few thoughts on the two. As far as the specifications, the knives are very similar.

 Large Sebenza Umnumzaan/Star-Tac

Blade material: S35V S30V

Blade hardness: 58-59 RC 58-59 RC

Blade length: 3.625† 3.675†

Blade thickness: 0.125† 0.140†

Overall length: 8.335† 8.450†

Handle material: 6AI4V Titanium 6AI4V Titanium

Weight: 4.7 oz. 5.0 oz.

The quality and price of the two knives are the same. The quality is top notch and both knives are relatively pricey. I really love the Sebenza. It has a classic and elegant look and is built like a tank to endure hard use. I believe it is one of the best folders on the market. The other nice thing about the Sebenza is all the custom work you can have done to the knife. You can really make a Sebenza into a work of art with damascus blades and fancy graphics or inlays. The graphics on my Sebenza make it really special for me. It is one knife that doubt I will ever get rid of. If I compare a regular Sebenza 21 to the Star-tac, I believe the Star-tac is the hands down winner. I view the Star-tac as a tactical Sebenza. The Wilson Starburst grips look really great, but they also serve by giving you a much better grip on the knife. While not as elegant as the Sebenza, the Star-tac still looks good enough to carry in more formal settings. I have read several threads on other forums where people complain about the awkward opening the Umnumzaan. I find nothing awkward about the opening. In fact, I can open the Umnumzaan easier than I can the Sebenza. The Umnumzaan is one of the smoothest operating folders (non-spring assisted) I own. The smoothness reminds me a lot of the Zero Tolerance 0500 "Mudd" knife desiged by Grant and Gavin Hawk, which is understandable since Chris Reeve got permission to integrate the Hawk's shock absorber concept into the Umnumzaan. The last thing that gives the Umnumzaan a slight edge is the integral glass breaker. It could come in very handy someday. While I will not get rid of my Sebenza, it will be cleaned and boxed up for storage. I may carry it from time to time, but I now have a new knife that will become the primary in my EDC rotation. Here are some pics of both knives: Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Sorry for your loss Robert. This might offend some people, but I am being totally honest. Three people sparked my interest (at least enough to buy) in firearms. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama. I only got my first firearm in mid-late 2009. At the time I was afraid the government would push foward some sort of gun control type legislation and I would miss out, so I had to buy one. Who knew I would find shooting very enjoyable and buy many more later on.

Ron Paul is in The Fight of His Life, We Must Stand With Him!
mav replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well.. we are both in agreement there. The problem I see with this entire election is that we have a president whose foreign policy stinks and his domestic policies are abysmal. All of the candidates, outside of one, running on the Republican ticket are big government politicians. They talk about small government in one sentence then contradict themselves later when they start promoting government solutions. They certainly aren't as bad as what we have now, but they are still bad nonetheless. The one candidate (Paul) who isn't big government and has some really good ideas domestically, a lot of people think he is nuts on foreign policy. This entire election has become nothing but a quagmire. As I have stated in posts in various other threads, I am supporting Paul in the primaries because of his domestic agenda. While I do agree with some, maybe a lot, of his foreign policy, his domestic agenda is what really does it for me. I feel he is the only candidate that will do what he says (especially in the executive branch). It has always been my view that if we cannot get our domestic situation fixed then eventually it really won't matter what our foreign policy is; we will end up destroying ourselves.
