The Picture That Should Cost Obama His Job
mav replied to 10P8TRIOT's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It looks like it has been taken down now. -
Very nice. Congrats. I have been contemplating on ordering an Assassin for quite some time, but I keep talking myself out of it. I might do it one of these days.
-
I used to have a presidio. I was my first really good knife, and I used the crap out of it. I really like those knives.

Yes, he was wanting a collector gun. He only wanted a Colt because it was a Colt.
-
I relayed your information today. He was very upset about it, which is certainly understandable. However, there is a positive side to the story. The guy who sold him the gun was unaware of the problems I mentioned in the OP and will give him his money back. He was very lucky. Anyway, thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it.

Oh my, natural evolution of traditions and societal norms, I am just outmatched here. First off, who stated or even implied you were endorsing Obama? I certainly didn't. I made a point in my post regarding the preservation of marriage from a traditional standpoint. As I stated, I am not looking at this concept through a religious prism; I view it entirely secular. The reason I do so is because, as so many have pointed out, marriage, in a religious sense, has become incredibly diluted (at least in this country). However, that does not mean that it has lost it's traditional significance, which I believe should be preserved. In response to my post, you made an overly simplified statement regarding change, which implied (even as you stated later) that I was unable to grasp changes within the fabric of society. It could also be implied from your post, that it is futile to resist change because as you stated change is always occuring and always will. Therefore, in response to your post I pointed out how simplistic that statement was and could easily be used in similar circumstances to reflect less than desirable results, i.e. accepting Obama policies because changes have occured in "societal traditions and norms." In regards to marriage maybe I am blind, but I don't see a natural evolution occuring or having occured. The underlying fundamentals have pretty much remained unchanged long before I was born, and will be long after I am gone. Anyway, I am out of the debate. This topic comes up about every 2 months or so, and neither side ever convinces the other they are correct. Have fun.

Wow, how profound. I guess I need to just jump onboard the Obama bandwagon since he represents hope and "change." There is really no reason for me to resist "change" since it has been going on since the begining of time and will go on long after I am dead.

I don't understand why some must push the debate into the religious realm. I can only guess that there is a little bit of anti-religiousity, primarily anti-Christianity present. My defense of the word "marriage" solely comes a traditional aspect; religion has nothing to do with it. I am not a multiculturalist and would like to preserve some of our traditions/culture in this country. Marriage happens to be one of those traditions I believe in preserving. I guess that makes me a bigot. As I stated earlier, I believe the government should have no role in people's personal relationships. By the way, to hell with the gays. Why should married people receive anymore benefits that us single people (who out number gays) cannot get?

Okay, thanks for the info. I might just link this thread to him and let him read it instead of telling him. He will be irritated.

Today was my first day back from vacation, and one of the people I work with told me he bought a new-to-him handgun. He has been really wanting a Colt 1911, and he found one for what I was told was a really good deal. Being a 1911 fan, I asked if I could see it. When he showed it to me I saw something that I found puzzling. His gun is a Colt slide on an Auto Ordnance frame. I did a small amount of googling to see what I could find, and it wasn't much. The only thing I could find is AO started making 1911s in the 80s and the quality really wasn't that good. It almost looks like someone had pieced together a 1911. When I conveyed my concerns to him, he seemed to be a little irritated that he may have gotten burned. My knowledge of firearms, especially history, is very limited, so I told him I would post a couple of pics on the forum to see if anyone has some insight on the matter. I would rate the gun at 60-70%. It is definitely in good enough shape to be shot (needs a good cleaning though). I field-strippe dthe gun for him to show him how, and I noticed some rust on the slide and frame. The gun has been shot a lot, and there are some chips and dings around parts of the frame and slide. Here are the pics. I was hoping some of you wiser gentlemen could educate me on this gun so I could give him some information. He paid $650 for the gun, which seems to be way too much if it is what I think it is. Hopefully I am wrong and can give him some better news. Thanks.

You are pretty much spot on. Getting government totally out of people's personal relationships is the best way to go. Unfortunately, it will never happen. The only other alternative I can see is get out of the "marriage" business. Keep "marriage" in the church and community and allow civil unions for everyone, both gay and straight. The government should no longer recognize "marriage," only the civil union. If a community or church won't marry a gay couple then that is really tough s**t for that couple. They can move to somewhere that will if it bothers them that much. However, the state should not be able to deny the same couple a civil union. If the civil union is the only thing the government recognizes, what difference does it make? None.

Which issues are most important to you?
mav replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Follow my first two suggestions, then you can do the third. My mind was really focused on the middle east when I was talking about foreign aid. We have given away billions in aid to middle eastern countries. What have we gotten in return? Nothing, and they certainly aren't our allies. -

mav replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I know these will never happen, but my three issues are: 1. Cutting the federal government in half (or more), and including massive deregulation and repealing of numerous existing laws - basically, get the f*** out of the way 2. Massive cuts to spending and eliminating most subsidies 3. A sensible foreign policy in which we mind our own damn business, and eliminate almost all foreign aid except for natural catastrophes. -
Romney Could Be Nominated Earlier Because Of Ron Paul Supporters
mav replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Why then do you waste your time, or is it that you like to argue Robert? I really don't understand it. You have stated numerous times that you hate all of these Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, or Alex Jones videos, but every time ArmyVeteran creates a new thread you come in to complain about something in the thread or belittle the OP. I'm no rocket scientist, but when I see a thread created by certain individuals I am pretty sure what the content is going to be without opening the thread. If really hated all of these videos I certainly wouldn't open up the thread that is sure to contain them. Life is too short to get riled up over some political video a guy posted in a forum. But hey, this is a pretty free forum. You are allowed to be cantankerous. By the way, I prefer a 1911, but like and own Glocks too. -
While they didn't win for obvious reasons, I wouldn't classify Santorum, Gingrich, or Paul as being milquetoast. I would Romney, Pawlenty, and Cain. I don't understand why so many people keep mentioning Rubio, outside of courting the hispanic community which I abhor. He is only a younger version of the crap we have now. I believe that is one reason he is so popular amongst the establishment. They have someone to continue their legacy. Rice, well... I am not even sure why she is a Republican outside of her hawkish foreign policy views, which I believe has been proven to be rather foolish. I have seen Rice, McCain, and others go around like automatons, "Arab spring. Arab spring." like it is some great thing to be celebrated. As you are pessimistic about the upcoming election, I am so about what is going on in the middle east. As Islamists are gaining a foothold on power, I only see this as a bad thing which will get worse until the world experiences the "Big Pain." I would have hoped we could have learned the lesson of not sticking our noses where it doesn't belong.

Want to get rid of Debbie Wasaman Shultz's???
mav replied to kieefer's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have always thought it to be a toss up between Debbie "Medusa Hair" Wassmerman Schultz and Joe Biden for being the dumbest politician in DC. The sad part is we have people that keep reelecting her. Says a lot about the people of that district. -
Great thread sigmtnman. I always thought C.S. Lewis summed it up nicely. And speaking of Thomas Sowell AR,

Breaking: Paul Ryan chosen as Romney VP
mav replied to plank white's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not only has Mitt sealed my vote, but he will actually get some money from me now. Picking Ryan as his VP makes me wonder if I was too harsh in my criticism of Romney, and that he has actually changed from some of his former beliefs. Can you imagine what the Ryan/Biden debate will be like? Team Obama will probably send Biden out of the country before the scheduled debates the minimize the embarrassment. -

I think he is one of the better choices Romney could have made. -
Gary Johnson...the Libertarian? Really????
mav replied to RobertNashville's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Apparently some of them do. I think political debate is a good thing, but some of the stuff I have read recently is nothing more than cantankerousness. It is one of the reasons I don't post as much as I used to. It gets old very quickly, and as you stated, neither side is not going to convince each other. If I based my voting on the actions of others, I wouldn't vote for GJ or MR. I would keep my happy ass at home this November. -
Just an observation. Why is it when anyone posts something positive about a third party candidate, someone has to come in and -1 each post? It is good to have disagreements, but come on. Sheesh. BTW, I +1'd each post that was showing -1.

Singer Randy Travis Arrested For DWI, Threatening Trooper
mav replied to gun sane's topic in General Chat
Well, maybe the heat was getting to him. Don't know how that will hold up in court though. -
New shooter and I'm horrible at it. Looking for training.
mav replied to a topic in Training Discussions
Second. I have taken four of Randy's classes, and they are worth the money especially if you need to learn the whole self defense aspect of carrying and shooting a handgun. -
Anyone ever carry a Strider SMF or a Microtech Whaleshark? I have been looking at them for a while. Any thoughts?
