Why would they want to solve the problem? Having some nut go shoot up a bunch of people is great for ratings and ad revenue.

Whenever Geraldo says something my only retort is, "Al Capone's Vault."

How have you reacted personally? Bought guns? Mags? Ammo?

I just got through watching an auction on GB for 100 pmags. The final price was $7589.09. Wow. -
Good for you. I am the same way. I only bought 10 friday evening, and that is plenty for me. I know there are some who have bought a ton of them and are reselling on the auctions and making a killing. I am watching an auction right now on GB for 100 pmags, and the price has hit $7500 with 20 minutes to go. I know that is capitalism at its finest, and I won't berate someone for doing it. However, that just doesn't sit right with me. I have to be careful or I might become a closet socialist. :) (edit) - I need to be fair to the seller since he listed these mags on the 6th, and that was before the buying frenzy started.

Ah. I have no frame of reference. My very first firearm purchase was mid-2009, and at that time, I had no problem getting whatever I wanted. I would say that has been the case until this past Friday. This has been my first experience of mass scale panic buying, and it was rather shocking. I am still stunned that people will pay in some cases over twice the list price for rifle. For example, a LWRC REPR is already an expensive rifle, and to see people paying $5k or more for it just seems nuts.

I work with like-minded people. They may not be as rigid as me regarding constitutional matters, etc..., but they are close enough. So no, I have not felt like a leper.

Being still somewhat of a newbie to firearms (< 4 years), I have never experienced anything like I have witnessed over the last several days. Almost everything firearm related is out of stock, certainly in the case of ARs. People have gone mad, and the price be damned. I have seen ARs sell for upwards of $2k more than regular price, magazines sell for 5-10x more than normal price. It is just crazy. I find all of this very troubling when I think about what would happen if we got into a real SHTF scenario, such as food or energy shortage, financial collapse, etc... If people freak out over guns, I couldn't imagine what they would do if it was over something they needed to live. I have my tin foil hat on here. Based on the recent frantic behavior I have seen of people, I have wondered if the fed knows something we don't, hence the purchasing of millions of rounds of ammo by DHS. Was the run up to the 90s AWB anything like what we are seeing now?

Yes. I bought a ton of 9, 45, and 22lr (all range grade practice ammo). All of it will be shot. The only reason I bought so much at one time is because I knew this would happen, although not to this extent, and I want to be able to shoot my guns without having to pay a fortune for practice ammo because of hoarding. I bought a G19, but that was already on my last to buy. I ordered a LaRue OBR this evening, but an AR-10 was also on my list to buy. While both products were already on my list to buy, all of the nonsense sped up my decision as to when to buy them. The only panic buying I did was Friday evening when I bought 10 pmags (regular price), which I didn't need. -
I didn't watch the video because I can't stand Piss Morgan. I laughed when he told Piss to ask Neville Chamberlain, his role model, about the dangers of disarmament. Impossible to do, but still funny.

Holy AK/AR!!!!!! Have you looked at Gunbroker prices today??!!?
mav replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
Yep, I have seen it. I made a post about it in the panic buying thread. I said I hope people choke on the ridiculous prices they are paying for stuff. I am starting to wonder if all those who are paying these kind of prices will actually want the government to do something so they don't look like total jacka$$es. -
Not having any kids, I had no idea what a school resource officer was. We didn't have those when I was in school. It is amazing how things can change in a decade or two. I am all for this bill. Allowing teachers to arm themselves is a great deterrent for the would be crazies out there. If something like this passed, it essentially ends the gun free zone crap, so I don't see why they wouldn't take it a step further and allow all HCP holders to carry on school property.

I just placed my order with LaRue for an OBR. I think it was a good choice. Hopefully I will get it before our federal overlords do something rash.

I just looked at some prices on Gunbroker and I am absolutely stunned. I have never seen anything like it. People are paying upwards or $2k or more over the normal price for rifles. AWB or not, I will just do without before I pay those kind of prices. Personally, I hope this is hysteria just so people will choke on what they are paying.

I also bought a new G19 Saturday. I don't really consider that panic buying since it was already on my list to buy. I took me a while to make up my mind between it and a HK P30. I already own several glocks, and have tweaked all of them. I think I made the right choice. My panic buying was Friday evening when I bought a lot of ammo and the Pmags. Everything I bought was at normal price though. I will do without before paying overly inflated prices. A couple of guys at work said I was nuts buying that much ammo. I informed them that it was to shoot, not hoard. After I explained myself they then had the audacity of asking me to sell them some.

I am really sorry about that. I have been really uptight lately with all this BS being spewed in the media and from the government. I am worried that I will not be able to get what I want, and I have decided what I want. It is none of those on the list above. I would like to buy a LaRue OBR 7.62. I sent LaRue an email requesting price and lead time on the specifications I gave them. From what I am seeing on the web, it looks like 6 months or longer. I could be overly paranoid, but I have no idea what actions the fed are going to take in the next month. Being somewhat pessimistic, I don't view it favorably. Therefore, I think I will be s.o.l. in 6 months. As far as being set on the AR platform, yes, I would say that I am. Although, if I get too antsy I could end up settling with a Scar 17-S, if you could call a Scar settling. I know I can get a Scar and a Repr now, but they aren't really what I want. I have found a few dealers who have some LaRues on backorder. I will talk to them over the next couple of days to get an idea on what time frame they are looking at. If it doesn't look good, I may just get on the list for an OBR and hope for the best while having my local dealer get me a Scar since they are two different type of guns. I guess you can't have too many. :)

That is a shame. I admitted earlier that I got in on the panic buying Friday. One thing I did get was 10 Pmags, but at normal price. I just checked the vendor and they are all gone.

(edit) No advice or suggestions? That is odd for this forum. I guess I will go with with what I think need/want and see how it all comes out. Thanks anyway.

Hey folks. For a while I have thought seriously about getting another rifle. I really like my LWRC M6A2 DEA, but I want something in 308. I don't really need one, but I do want one. More than likely this gun will just be used for paper punching since I don't hunt. However, I would still like the capability of doing so if I ever get the opportunity. Thus, I have ran into a dilemma; I am not sure what to get. Since I have had good success with my LWRC, the first thing I was looking at was a REPR. It is pricey, but not unreasonable. The next thing I have thought about is building my own AR-10. After taking my AR-15 apart, and watching several videos on putting together an AR-10, it doesn't seem to be terribly difficult. I assume that if I can completely detail strip my Ruger Mark III, and put it all back together in minutes that I can handle an AR build. ;) Regarding the AR-10 build, I have seen numerous threads mentioning Mega Maten. I had never heard of Mega Arms before, so I did a little bit of research. Based upon what I have read, it appears that is really good stuff. If I go towards a build, I am probably going to lean towards that lower and upper assuming I can find one. Lastly, I was looking at a McMillan CS5. I have absolutely no practical use for that rifle, but I thought it was just wicked and wanted one. I almost bought one the other day, but talked myself out of it since I don't really know what I want or need. I would have hated spending that kind of money only to find out later that I should have got something else. Questions. Is there any advantage/disadvantage going with something like the REPR over building your own AR-10? Is there an advantage/disadvantage of a high end AR build over a bolt action? I know McMillan are supposed to be the cat's meow when it comes to precision rifles, but can you build an AR-10 that is as accurate as the McMillan? I am trying to guage if the price is really worth it, or am I just getting too ninja-esque when I saw the CS5? I am sure I could have researched various forums for opinions, but I don't know any of those people from Adam. I have been on this forum going on 3 years, so I can weed out a little bit who is full of it or not. Last question, if an AR build is the way to go, would some of you mind giving advice on other components or technical know-how? I will admit that I am leaning towards an AR build, but haven't committed yet. However, due to recent events and not knowing what will happen in the near future, my time table has been pushed to now. For those that might say save your money and buy such and such and spend the rest on ammo and training. I am single and plan on being that way for a while, so I have plenty of ammo, have had several training classes, and have money to take more (which I will do next year). So, thank you, but that is not the advice I am seeking. :) Your advice is welcome and appreciated. Thanks, Eric

Yeah, I would like to do that as well. I have been researching for a while on an AR-10 build. It is the last weapon I need/want. I had contemplated on just buying a REPR, but I think I am gonna try a Maten build. Everything I have read tells me that is the way to go. I have had zero luck finding uppers and lowers in stock anywhere. As far as panic buying goes, I am a little late in the game. I started Friday evening, and spent a crap load of money on some stuff.

John Ross "Unintended Consequences"
mav replied to Commando68's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I read it several years ago. A little over the top, but it was good. -
I have mixed emotions about this tragedy. It breaks my heart, and I feel absolutely terrible for the families and children. I don't even have the words to express my sympathy. The reason I said I have mixed emotions about this is because I am also absolutely livid at politicians like Bloomberg. What kind of f***ing human being does it take to exploit this tragedy to push some bull**** agenda? I guarantee you there are some who probably celebrated over this because they see opportunity. It is just sickening.

That was a fascinating story. Thanks for posting.

Most unusual gun you've seen used to qualify with for CCW.
mav replied to seez52's topic in General Chat
I qualified with my Five Seven. At the time the instructor had never seen one before. -
I guess I need to clarify my original post. I did not use a 1911 in any of my training courses. I did use a 2011. I get all the benefits of a 1911 (accuracy, ergonomics, and most importantly to me, trigger), plus I get the added benefit of a larger capacity mag. My 2011 is in 9mm, which is my prefered caliber, and the mag hold 17 rounds. If I felt really in need, I could go to the longer mag which holds 26 rounds. Right now, and for the last month, I have been carrying my Five Seven. That is another gun I wouldn't hesitate to train with. Don't know what Yeager's feelings are towards it, and don't really care. I bought and carry it because I like it, and have never had any problems with it. To me, that is all that matters on anything.

I would still disagree with him. I have taken several SI courses using my Nighthawk Custom Talon 2011, and had absolutely zero problems. I also took one using a Glock 34. I don't know this guy from Adam, but what little I have seen from him on his Youtube videos, I can safely say he is an a$$hole and too full of himself. I have thought about training at TR, but now that I know who runs it, there is no way. I would not want to train with a person like that. I don't care how good he is or what his credentials are. A little humility would do this guy wonders.
