IMPORTANT - Read This >> White House Proposal for Gun Control
mav replied to TGO David's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am thankful he didn't overstep his authority by using an EO on gun, magazine, or ammo bans. I couldn't care less about impeachment because I know he would never be convicted by the senate. However, there are enough nuts out there who are just itching for a justification to start a violent revolution, and something like that might have push them over the edge. That should be the last thing any of us should want. -
IMPORTANT - Read This >> White House Proposal for Gun Control

I read this document earlier today. It is really nothing new from the statist's Christmas list on gun control. Most of the congressional stuff which is mentioned has no chance in passing unless the Republican party has given up and decided they want to become the pemanent minority party. Now, does that mean we should lower our guard and declare all's right with the world? Of course not. We should always keep a close eye on what is going on in Washington because if the wrong people get control of everything then that paper is exactly what we will get. However, those that have been running around in a frenzy the last month with their hands flailing and screaming, "Oh $hit, we are gonna die. Obama is gonna do this and that, etc..." need to calm down and realize that there is only so much the President can actually do. We should remain vigilant, but not go off the deep end. -
Here's the actual list of Obama's Executive Orders

My only question now is when is the hysteria going to end so I can actually purchase something I want at normal pricing? :) -
Alinksy wasn't stupid when he stated that the key to seizing power in America was to destroy the middle class. Are the rich going to start a revolution? Of course not. They are rich, so when things get crappy they have enough money to work themselves out of or around the system. The apathetic poor? Nope. As long as the entitlements keep coming in, they will be kept at bay.

Review, Suarez Int'l Combat Pistol Marksmanship
mav replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Training Discussions
Glad you enjoyed the class. I have taken several classes with Randy. They are instructive as well as enjoyable. -
When I was cleaning my guns this evening I was listening to Shostakovich: Symphony #5 in D Minor, some Enya, and then switched it up to Alice Cooper. I have very diverse musical tastes. One minute I could be listening to Sinatra and The Bee Gees, and the next minute it could be Megadeth, White Zombie, or Danzig, etc... I would have no problem listening to Bocelli singing Ave Maria. I can listen to most music except rap, most country, and any pop music outside of the 1980s.

I do as well. However, I don't really see much free market capitalism going on nowadays, especially in the larger corporations like Walmart. I do see a lot of crony capitalism occuring.
-
Reread my post, you are misunderstanding my intent. I said that all they had to do is think about it and everyone one panics. That is not saying that all they are doing is thinking about it.
-
I have no idea what will become of this EO talk. One thing I do know is Obama and his coterie are laughing their collective asses off at us. All they have to do is just think about some form of gun control and everyone panics. To me, that only emphasizes in their minds of how much power they wield.
-
It does. I wish journalists would take a little initiative and dig a little deeper, and perhaps get a little corroboration. Why don't they put a call into Walmart headquarters themselves and see what is going on? Additionally, if this reason holds true, which I am still skeptical, I don't understand why Walmart will not issue a statement on their website or Facebook page stating that they are taking such action.
-
After getting some sleep and then doing a little bit more research on the issue, it does appear that orders being placed at the store level are being rejected by their ordering system, not by some dictate handed done from corporate that forbids ordering. Now this is hearsay, but it seems that Walmart is having to pay more for ammo, and prices will more than likely increase in the future. It is amazing how changing or adding certain words like "forbidden, can't, won't allow" etc... in discussions can lead to a firestorm of controversy and speculation.

That is an excellent question. I have thought about it for years, and I have yet to find an answer. I am not a Walmart hater, but being the world's largest retailer they have developed an arrogant attitude. Once they set their mind on what they will pay for something that is it. You either do what you can to meet their price or they source it from elsewhere, mainly China. Every now and then Walmart will come back to their supplier and force them to drop the price even further. I have actually witnessed some companies that were cutting every corner they could to decrease costs ending up relocating to Mexico and Honduras in order to decrease costs further so they can meet Walmart's price demands. There is good and bad with Walmart. (edit) - I said I didn't have an answer why. That is not entirely true. It has been a while since I studied the matter, and it would take me a while to flesh it out of my memory.

I read the same thing on another forum. It is possible, but I don't buy it. The distribution centers could easily allocate ammo to stores based on normal sales volume without telling individual stores they can no longer order ammo. That is the way it worked when I was a manager during my college years at a multi-billion dollar a year retailer. If there was a shortage, you may get a partial shipment or no shipment at all, but you could still order. Selling to customers that are suppliers to Walmart, I can tell you that Walmart beats the crap out of its suppliers, and even though the volume they supply to Walmart is large, the profit margins they make are d***. My guess, as I stated earlier, is that there have been some price increases and Walmart is being pissy about it, which is very characteristic of Walmart. Manufacturers will still make the ammo. It may go to other retailers which are more profitable to the manufacturer, but it is still going to sell as fast as it comes in. In this frenzied market Walmart doesn't really have a leg to stand on. They will now have to compete with other retailers for x amount of supply.
-
The reason I don't like the Walmart is being cautious theory is because even if there was a restriction enacted via EO limiting the amount of ammo an individual could buy, Walmart would still sell out of ammo once it hit their shelves unless that EO was an outright prohibition on ammo. If that was the case, it would be tantamount to gun confiscation, and we all know what that would eventually lead to. The Obama administration has no regard for the Constitution, and they are brazen in their attempts to circumvent it. However, they aren't stupid.
-
It is possible something shady is going on. However, I have read several forums regarding this matter and several people have opined that Walmart is no longer in a position to bully distributors on what they are willing to pay for ammo due to the unprecedented demand. The price of ammo is at a premium right now and as soon as it hits the shelf anywhere it sells. Why would a distributor still sell ammo to Walmart so cheap when they can easily get a premium and sell everything they have. I don't know what Walmart's reasoning is, but I can state that Walmart does bully the $hit out of it's suppliers.

So who isn't really worried about the current shortage of stuff?
mav replied to Raoul's topic in General Chat
This is my theory on how everything pans out. I am betting that nothing of any real significance will happen with firearms this year. We right now we have unprecedented demand. If you talk to dealers they will tell you that they have never experienced anything like it. They claim that now is nothing like 94 or 08. As people begin to realize that nothing is going to happen demand will start to wane. Since a lot of people have stocked up either before or during bubble, it will be some time before they need or want anything else. Therefore, dealers will probably drop prices below normal to entice buyers to help move inventory from their now replenished shelves. Individuals that have come upon hard times or just need some extra spending money will be forced to compete with the new price in order to sell their goods, which could depress prices further. If am right, I expect that in late summer/early fall there will be really goods deals available. If I am wrong, who knows what things will be like. Anyway, if we can make it through this year with nothing really happening, I think it will be a while before something like this comes up again. 2014 is an election year, and politicians are not gonna risk their seat by voting the wrong way on such a hot button issue. -

I have an ar-10 on order that I will probably receive in about 6 months or so. I am doing quite well on everything else. Since I don't believe anything is going to happen, I am just waiting for summer when prices should plummet. -
My favorite carry is a 9mm 2011 and Galaxy S3.

Yes, I totally realize what he has done and the possible, but doubtful, ramifications it could cause . What the hell can I do about it? Absolutely nothing. What was done is done. Therefore, what reason do I have to go around harboring a grudge or being pissed at him for making a total ass of himself, which ends up being reflected on all of us? None, because even without the video, the left is going to lie and portray me as some gun crazy right wing nut who only needs the right push before becoming another mass murderer. The way I was raised and my belief system is to be forgiving of others even if they are undeserving of that forgiveness. That said, that doesn't mean I have to associate with that person, nor does it mean I have to even like that person, which in this case, I don't. I view this entire episode as good, but painful, learning lesson. Think about what you are going to say before saying it, and if what you have to say is inflammatory and can reflect poorly on others, then it is best to keep your ****ing mouth shut. I cannot change what was done, and I have already washed my hands of it. There is no point for me to dwell on it; it is time to move on. I know a lot of people will view this differently than me, and that is fine. To each their own.

Well, good for him. I don't know if he is sincere or just trying to save his butt, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I still think he is an egotistical ass (at least that is the way he comes off in his videos), but it sometimes takes a lot of guts to admit you were wrong and apologize. Now, he needs to apologize to all those he insulted in the second video. By the way, he doesn't look very big or overly muscular to show steroid use.

Well, I couldn't wait any longer. I just sent my inquiry to Yun for a type s Assassin. Hopefully he will get back to me tomorrow and I will order it.
-
I watched the interview he had with CBS Atlanta. I sort of feel sorry for the guy even though he is a complete egotistical ass. Yes, yes, he brought it on himself, but threatening the man's livelihood and the lives of his family because he said some incredibly stupid things out of frustration and anger is uncalled for. Even though my expectations are very low, my hope is that Mr. Yeager learns some humility during this ordeal; it would serve him well.

Bidunce is supposed to report his findings to His Majesty next Tuesday. After that, nobody knows.
