With friends like this. That's right! Devour our own.
mav replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
McCain is a total p.o.s. I still can't believe I voted for this ass in the 2008 elections. Mark Levin brought up a good point yesterday when he stated that McCain wasn't as promilitary/defense as he portrays himself. Several years ago under Bush, McCain got on his high horse and basically stated that US was torturing people. That certainly did wonders for our military. :shake: It did manage to add fuel to the propaganda fire being spread by our enemies. McCain only cares about one thing, and that is McCain. It irks me when so many stand up in his defense by saying that he was a war hero so he shouldn't be criticized. To hell with that. Past actions on the part of any individual do not warrant a free pass to undermine this country. If am not mistaken, Benedict Arnold was once described as a war hero as well. -
Very nice. He will start working on mine next January.

Ya know, the thing that really ticks me off is the most of the self described liberals are silent. They jumped all over Bush, and at times it was justified, but they are silent when Obama has expanded what Bush was doing. These people aren't liberals in the true sense of the word. They are nothing more than partisan political hacks, and to be quite blunt, they can kiss my a$$. They have absoutely no credibility. (edit) - I would like to add McCain, Graham, and their ilk to the list that can kiss my a$$.

ACLU Launches Nationwide Police Militarization Investigation
mav replied to LowBb's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yep, sometimes the ACLU is right on an issue, and this is one of those cases. I have absolutely nothing against police officers, but I really don't understand why they need all of this military hardware, which includes drones. It is certainly not for my protection since the police really can't protect me anyway. I think that us every day law abiding citizens would be much better off and have more protection if we were allowed to purchase surplus military hardware instead of creating or expanding SWAT programs. While I feel pretty safe with the equipment I have, it would only increase if I had a MK48 in my possession. -
Paul, Cruz, and Mike Lee really show how sorry most of the other senators are.

I would like to see the requisition form. One could see the requisition forms from DHS on the ammo and PDWs online. Until then, I will file it as conspiracy theory chatter.

I guess I will be the one who takes a different view. While Jones and his followers may be misguided, I don't consider them dangerous. Yes, yes, they really go off the deep end at times with their outrageous claims, and yes, the left does use that to portray right-leaning people as a bunch of quacks. So what? If they didn't have stuff to use from Jones, Paul, or whomever, they would make crap up to use against us. The left is never going to like us, and only views us as something that must be supressed and/or defeated. Jones and others may be bat $hit crazy, but if the time ever comes, heaven forbid, when we have to exercise certain rights to maintain our freedoms, I am glad they will be on our side because there will be an overwhelming majority who will not.

If I had a choice, I would go with the plain Sebenza. The inlays on a Sebenza are just a little too nice for my taste for good hard working knife. Another option to consider is doing what I did and get a Starbenza. The Starbenza probably sees the most carry time out of all my knives.

Oh how sweet. I guess now North Korea is going to stop counterfeiting our currency as well as other forms of piracy, halt their nuclear testing, and stop supplying jihadis with various weapons and technology because someone took the time to empathize with them. Oh what it must be like to live in liberal-celebrity fantasyland.

Because certain parties would lose a voting bloc.

That is correct. There are some useful roles that the government plays, and like you, I feel those roles could be done better and cheaper if they were in the hands of the private sector. I hope nobody misunderstands my intent. I am not advocating anarchy. Government does have some legitimate functions, but the problem arises when government is left unchecked to work outside of its constitutional limits. When government goes beyonds its constitutional bounds and gets involved in some industry and screws things up, its answer to the problem is always more government. It will continue to grow until it reaches the point where it is in, or controls, everything. We are currently $16 plus trillion in debt. At the end of Obama's second term, the number will be $23 trillion. I don't want to even mention unfunded liabilites. Where is the money going to come from? I see only three options for the future of this country, barring war, natural disaster, or some pandemic. The first is dismantling the behemoth to a level where we can start paying off our debt and leave the government enough money to operate under its consititutional limitations. In order to do that most of the social programs will have to be phased out of existence. We will also have to have cuts to the military, cut all foreign aid, cut congressional pay and benefits/retirement, eliminate entire departments and agencies, etc... The sooner this is done, the easier it will be on everybody. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening. There are not enough politicians with the courage, integrity, or intelligence to do this. More than likely one of the two following scenarios will happen. The government is going to kick the can further down the road until a breaking point is reached. At that point, government will have no choice but to make drastic and immediate cuts. All of those that were dependent or have their lives subsidized by the government will be cut off. I would imagine if that were to occur that things would get pretty nasty really quick. The other option under that scenario is that the government takes control of everything, which I believe is the more likely scenario. They will decide who gets what, how much they (they includes businesses) can make, what kind of medical care they receive, where they live, what they can do, what they can eat, etc... If that happens (actually it has been happening for years), I am certain that there will be some that will rebel against such action, and it also will get pretty nasty. We can either take some pain now or hold off and take greater pain in the future. Either way, everybody is going to have to endure some of it. If I had my choice, I will take the pain now.

It was a good video, but not enough screaming trumpets for my taste. This thread made me really think about the ironies in life. During high school I was an incredibly lazy student, and found my chemistry class abhorrent. Even though I wasn't any good, band was about the only thing I enjoyed during my middle and high school years. I loved playing high notes, or at least attempting to play them. :) My musical tastes developed towards wanting to hear a powerful brass section with in-your-face screaming trumpets. I don't know what it was, but there was always something appealing to me when I heard some trumpet player absolutely nail a double G or higher. Then for just showing off, they would hold it for a split second longer after the rest of the band has stopped. Anyway, long story short, I quit trumpet after high school, but ended up majoring in chemistry. Go figure. Yes, Frank Hale was an excellent director. I checked out your profile, and you were one class year below me, but we attended the same school at the same time. Reading some of your later posts, I realized we were in the same section (trumpet).

Arguing whether to do away with SS and/or Medicare or not is really pointless because nothing is going to be done by either party. Things are going to get worse until the entire system crashes, and all of the politicians know it is going to happen. I think all we are seeing now is political posturing by each party so they can blame each other for the inevitable crash. Just my $0.02, I think dismantling SS and Medicare is really the only option we have. That said, I believe there are ways one can go about it instead of instantly killing it. First off, you have to have harsh means testing. If you are of age to receive SS and Medicare and financially well off you get nothing. Yeah I know people have paid in to it all their working lives. All I can say to them is sorry. As you will read later, people 45 and below will lose everything they have currently paid into the system as well. I know this is socialism at its finest, and I hate it, but it is the only way that I can see how to dismantle a failed system and still maintain some compassion even if some that are receiving the benefits are undeserving because they acted irresponsibly or they did not plan properly. All those under 45, they would no longer pay SS and medicare taxes. They will be ineligible for either because the time they retire those programs will no longer exist. Ages 45 - 55 can either opt in or out at reduced and means tested benefits. For those currently 55 and above, the programs maintain the current level of benefits, but once again, they will be means tested. As far as cutting other governments programs, departments, agencies, laws, and regulations, I am all for it. I honestly believe that you could cut the federal government by 50 - 70%, cut taxes for those that pay them, allow truly free markets to work, and most people would be much better off. Everything that is cut or done away with can go towards paying off our debt, and fund the phasing out period of SS and Medicare. I know this might make a few people mad, and it is pretty harsh. If you are an illegal immigrant, you get absolutely nothing. I don't care if you have paid taxes into the system or not. You violated our laws, and in some cases committed a felony through identity theft. Since everyone would take a hit under this plan, they have to as well. They should consider what they paid in as rent. If they become naturalized, then they start at zero and the same age conditions that I mentioned above apply. As I said at the being, we can debate what to do and how to do it until we are blue in the face. In the end, nothing of real significance is going to happen until the government is forced to stop printing checks.

I carry my 0300 from time to time. It seems bulky at first, but it really isn't. Just my $0.02, but I feel the 300 is best blade ZT has made.

Joe Biden's point-blank advice: Buy a Shotgun
mav replied to TSprint1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That is a very easy question to answer. If I was the President and I was worried about some nut job making an attempt on my life, I would get someone a whole lot worse than me to be my Vice President. ;) -
If I were contemplating on spending $300 on a large fixed blade, I would seriously consider looking at the Chris Reeve Pacific or Green Beret. I own both and they are fantastic blades. Another option could be a Busse.

I wish I would have known. I would have sent him an email asking him to tell Larue to hurry up with my OBR. :)

Interesting and actually surprising. I thought one of the best quotes of the video was (paraphrasing) Good question. It is my belief that if a police department can purchase brand new selective fire guns, then so should law abiding civilians.

I liked the first movie, but the second seemed like a made for tv movie. The actors they chose for the second film seemed really out of place.

You didn't mention what kind of quality. If you are talking top quality, I don't think anyone can really do better than a CR Sebenza. They don't look all that fancy unless you go damascus or some wild design, but I think they are pretty much second to none in terms of quality. High quality at a cheaper price is represented by the Zero Tolerance line. My favorite ZT will always be the ZT0300 followed by the 0561.

Yes sir. I swallowed the red pill quite some time ago. :) During my hour commute to work in the morning, I usually listen to Mike Church or Quinn and Rose. Church makes a lot of sense, so I guess that is why so many hate him.

It is situations like these I often wonder if we should scrap the entire system because it has become an utter failure. On a positive note, we can still bomb the $hit out of brown people (Carlin reference). Let's hear some of that patriotic chanting, USA. USA. USA. We are going (have gone) broke, becoming a dictatorship, but we can still kick some ass. USA. USA. USA. :shake:

So, how does the health care get delivered when it runs out?
mav replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I could be mistaken, but I believe the intent of the law was to make healthcare so unaffordable that only the people who could afford it are the ones with enough money that they don't need it. Congress in all its wisdom then comes to the rescue and institutes single payer to lower insurance costs. -
You are a better man than me. Once I overcame the initial shock, I would have more than likely handed the lady a cucumber and then proceed to tell her what she can do to herself. The lady's comments do not really surprise me. This nation is full of busybodies who say you can do this but not that, think this but not that, eat this but not that, etc... We would be a whole lot better off they would mind their own business and have a tall glass of stfu.
