The overuse or misuse of words and phrases that have been mentioned thus far don't bother me at all. My pet peeve is 300 plus word paragraphs. The enter key is your friend.

I am sick of them myself. I agree 100%.

Another Fraud in the fight for gun control
mav replied to towerclimber37's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That is no shocker. Of course they are gonna have to do those things. If they told the truth about who they are and what they ultimately want, they would stand absolutely no chance of ever winning political office (outside of a few socialist enclaves in the US). That 90% people support it crap Obama and his ilk have been spewing regarding increased background checks is in reality more like 10 - 20%. -
1) Agree 2) Disagree; as someone stated earlier, murder is murder. The means used to carry it out shouldn't make any difference. 3) Disagree. If someone gets jailed for a personal use level of any drug they should not lose their right to own a firearm. No, I do not use drugs, no ever have. 4) Disagree from the standpoint that not all nonviolent criminals should lose their right to own a firearm. 5) Disagree. It depends on the type of crime that they were incarcerated for. 6) Agree 7) Disagree. Kill someone with anything while committing a crime. Firearms should not receive special treatment. I disagree with most of what you stated. It is way too authoritarian for my taste, and creates special provisions regarding firearms that shouldn't exist. I absolutely do not agree with creating new laws or regulations regarding firearms; that is the last thing we should want. Enforce the existing laws that make sense, are effective, and reduce crime. Scrap the rest.

It was more than likely sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione (sodium dichoroisocyanurate). I believe some people have used this for water purification, but don't quote me on it. In regards to powder bleach, HTH brand is not important at all. As long as it is calcium hypochlorite, you should be fine. You can buy it all over the place online. If you do that I would recommend you buy it from a reputable source, not necessarily the cheapest. Unless you are titrating the material to test the strength, you don't really know what you are getting. As far as sodium hypochlorite's shelf life, yes, it is around 5-6 months from the manufacturing date for maintaining 6% strength (what you would buy in the grocery store). However, that doesn't mean that it is useless. It can still be used to purify water; it may just take a little more. I would also add that you want to keep you bleach free from contaminants as they will only degrade the bleach quicker. If in doubt, you can also titrate the strength of your bleach using potassium iodide, acetic acid (vinegar), and some standardized sodium thiosulfate (preferably 0.1N).

Personally, I think the signs are downright s**tty. This is just one of the numerous examples on why I abhor unions. Either pay up, or we will make you look bad, and that is just the start. Sheesh. :shake: It would be nice if someone put a billboard right next to that one and stated: "Raise or no raise, my proficiency with my firearm gives me more protection than either the police or city can provide me. Signed, John Q. Public (armed citizen)."

It is rather difficult to get enthusiastic when one has to decide between a piece of s*** and a pile of s***. Liberals rally around their candidates because they know that even through compromise, they will still gain ground. When Republicans compromise, we always lose ground. I will say it again as I did in my earlier posts, pointing out and/or complaining about the flaws of a candidate (past or present) in no way reflects on the future success of Republicans candidates. If Republicans field strong candidates then their chance for success is good, and if they field weak candidates or people vote for them in the primaries because they are perceived to be the most electable, they will more than likely lose.

I'm all for it. We don't have enough taxes to begin with. Everybody needs to contributing their fair share. :shake: Honestly, I don't know why they are d**king around with this weak piece of legislation. They might as well just go ahead and confiscate our paychecks and retirement accounts. Then they give us back what they think we need to live. After all, 90% of American people support it, it is for the children, and if just one person might be saved it needs to be done.

to start to flip-flopping (it at least appears that way). During Rand Paul's questioning of AG Holder, he was very harsh on the administration for not saying that they could/would not use drone strikes on American citizens. He performed a 13 hour talking filibuster in protest for lack of clarity on the issue. As of yesterday, it appears that Mr. Paul is changing his tune a little. During his filibuster, Paul stated, Just recently Paul stated on Cavuto's show https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JibKfETwNmU that it made no difference if a perpetrator, while coming out of a liquor store with a gun and $50 in their hands, was shot by the police or killed by a drone. Hmmmm. It seems to me that his statements a month or so ago aren't consistent with what he is saying now. Paul released the following statement yesterday. Could this be just a little politicking on Paul's part to appeal more to the masses for his upcoming 2016 presidential bid? Possibly. However, to those who are concerned with the slow erosion of our civil liberties, mission creep, or slippery slope scenarios, this is a little disconcerting. Whether you liked Paul Sr. or not, you would have to at least give him credit that he was never inconsistent in stating his views. I would rather support and lose with a guy who was consistent with his views, regardless of their popularity, than support someone who I really don't know what they believe. Out of those who have been mentioned as possibly seeking a 2016 bid, Rand is still my guy, but I will really listen to what he says in the future. Hopefully, this was just a lack of clarity on his part.

Is the U.S. Capable of Self-Governance Any More?
mav replied to RobertNashville's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Are the American people still capable of self-governance? Absolutely. Will they? Not a chance in hell. -
That is not necessarily the case. Pointing out the faults of Reagan has nothing to do with the future sucess of Republican candidates. The last two Republican candidates lost because they were weak moderate candidates, nothing more. If Republicans keep fielding weak candidates then yes, they will continue to lose.

I need to update my original post. The immigration bill was not 1500 pages. It was only 800. I saw Rubio was on Rush today trying to sell his plan. I didn't listen to it, but based on the transcripts, Rush ain't buying it. A lot of people are kinda pissed at Rubio. I am thankful people are starting to see him for who he is, which is just more of the same, only younger.

Giffords 'furious' about Senate gun control votes
mav replied to Beretta Bob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I really felt bad for Giffords at one time, but who is she really. She is just a congresswoman who got famous for being shot. It is harsh, but it is the truth. -
Be careful what you ask for because promotions can be frustrating.
mav replied to mav's topic in General Chat
No thanks. Yes, there is greater financial reward with owning your own business, but I don't have the risk tolerance nor the money to get into the industry I have spent most of my working life in. -
I stand by my statement because it had no chance of passing, and I along with many others stated it months ago. I am not any sort of soothsayer, but I do follow national politics fairly closely. Getting the legislation through the senate would have been difficult, as was proven today. If half of the Democrat's 20 senate seats weren't up for grabs in 2014, I would have been a little more cautious. That said, even if it would have made it through the senate, it would have been dead in the house. I also mentioned that 2014 could be a different story if leadership positions change. The panic buying that occured in NY was not herd mentality. Your response to me would be exactly how I would have described that situation. My brother lives on LI and I told him that he needed to get some stuff now while the state was crafting the legislation. He told me there was no way Albany would pass anything like that. I knew better, and now he is all ticked off about it because he can't get squat.

Must be a Nashville thing.
-
There is one factor that may have some significance. A lot of the people who jumped into this market only did so because of a panic (herd mentality). They were the ones who caused the shortage and price increases. Now that a lot of the panic has subsided, I don't see these people participating in this market any further and affecting prices and stock levels until the next event.

That would be a very smart move. I will do the same.

Senate rejects tougher background checks
mav replied to Beretta Bob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I hope you guys don't mind if I do a little gloating. I rarely get to do it. ;) Hopefully, I will be correct on prices as well. There are some things I want to buy. -
Wow, that is one way to make an exit.
-
I agree. We probably won't see a large influx from manufacturers, but we will see more ammo coming on the market from those who went into panic mode buying whatever they could get their hands on and paying inflated prices. Me and AR were right on our prediction that the fed will not pass anything of real consequence regarding guns. I also made the prediction that guns, ammo, and accessories would return to normal prices, if not lower, by late summer. Hopefully I can go two for two. :)

We HAVE to find a primary challenger for Alexander!!!
mav replied to dcloudy777's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
And a bust of Churchill. -
Wow, they went fast. I checked 30 minutes or so ago and they were still available. I didn't need any, so there was no point in me buying any. I hope the AR-10 pmags starting popping up again.

About a month ago I took a promotion to VP of Chemical Processes, which puts me directly responsible for every facet of our business minus sales (thank goodness). It is nice having the authority to implement change that you know will be effective. However, it sure is frustrating, and at times overwhelming. I come home almost everyday feeling like someone kicked the crap out of me, and it makes me laugh whenever I hear people make comments about cushy management jobs.
