back in my younger days, I did pass a cop Once. he was doing 45 in a 55. I did pass him. I checked and I was certain I was in a 55 zone when I did. nothing bad happened. It was a 2 lane road and I had to wait until I was in a passing zone to be able to pass him. For years, I considered it a right of passaged, that I passed a cop. However now days, I never see a cop driving at or under the speed limit.

Can I try my hand at it. I better not, it was well written.

Why are they allowed to publish HCP data
vontar replied to vontar's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I am not HCP yet. I am taking the class next Month. I was going to take it last Year, however my wife got laid off at work, so we had to cut back on some extras, she is working again now. So I have been talkign with Mike at Austin's, and I have requested for time off at work next month to take the class. I have been spending some practice time. Today I went out with a B-27. Fired about 150 rounds with the pistol I plan to use, mostly from 15 yards, All my shots where in the 8 ring. Over the past year been off and on using it, at various distances but not as much at 15 yards so Today was to work on that. I believe I will be ok. I know I need to get better, more practice time required. -
In the thread Do you flaunt your permit, it was brought up that anyone can look up anyone and see if they have a HCP. Why does our government seem to think it is ok to keep publishing information about us for all to see? It is not like we have commented a crime, we are exercising our Right after paying our dues to the state and in short asking the state to do a back ground check on us as we have nothing to hid, and furthermore and showing our willingness that we plan on no future wrong doing. I believe databases like one one at used at Tennessee Handgun Carry Permits Information & News from The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) has to be in some way interfearing with our rights to privicy. Or such a database might be used by the wrong people to either search for homes with guns or to search for homes that might not be defended. Guys, I am just getting warmmed up tonight.

Permit holders working against each other?
vontar replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don't like any mayonnaise. -
I am really just gearing up with pistols myself at 35. However for Rifles my dad alway had me shot at larger targets with small targets in the center. The reason was so when I was not on center I could see if I was high, low, left, right, etc. Other boys my age shot at pop cans and such, so when they missed they had no idea why they missed. So, now when I practice with a pistol, I do the same, maybe this will help you. Large target with a small center target so you can see what direction you are off in.

I notice, it seems everyone goes to Walmart for their first OC, is there a reason for that? BTW, glad you got it.

really? I am going to head over there just to screw with them now. I live in Oak Ridge. Last year when things got short, they did the 1 box, however the guy said it this way. I can sell you 1 box of any type and up to 6 kinds. My wife was with me. So to Prove a point I brought the following 1 box 500 rounds 22 shells 1 box 100 rounds 22 shells 1 box 535 rounds (different brand) 22 shells 1 box 100 20 gauge shells 1 box 270 shells 1 box of 38s I followed the rules as he stated, 1 box, per type, 6 types then I had her buy exactly the same. I know we walked out with over 2000 rounds of 22 shells, She felt funny walking out of the store, I felt like a King. Here is how I felt.

I guess from what I am reading, I would use flooded ammo on the range but I might not want to depend on it for defense.
-
I find that reasonable. Step 1. Pick out a firearm. Step 2. Pay shop fee for BG. Step 3. IF BG pass proceed to step 5. Step 4. If BG fail, proceed to Step 6. Step 5. Pay for Firearm, thank your local dealer, Move to step 7. Step 6. ask about appeal process Step 7. Exit store like a normal Human

I will say it again. I am not going to lie to LEO. Right now, I do not have my permit. I plan to take my class next month. However, when I have my HCP and if I I am carrying, I will answer the question with a yes, sir. I don't want him/her to have any surprises. I would bet, if you lie to a LEO once and get caught in the lie, you will get the ticket, however if you are totally honest and upfront with them there is a chance you might only get a warning, depending on what they stopped you for. When I was stopped in Clinton, first time I had been stopped in over 10 years I only got a warning to slow down.
-
Wow, I know I am new, so I had to go back and read your other threads. Sounds like they where wrong. Like others said, it is not like you could not walk in and buy ammo at the same place. What they did was in fact Steal your Property period.
-
I am confused.
-
It was over hyped. I thought they where bringing already top markmen and women to compete. However it appears they have allot of trouble at 50 and 100 yard targets with rifles. I bet on this forum alone we could round up better shots from what I saw.

[Insurance Experts] Would homeowners insurance pay for a bad shooting?
vontar replied to DaveTN's topic in General Chat
I am not a legal eagle here. Heck, I haven't even taken my hand gun class yet. Hopefully that is next Month if I get the day off at work. But Check out this. http://www.lesjones.com/2003/09/23/tennessee-handgun-carry-permits-part-i/ If you shoot someone in your home, your homeowner’s insurance will not pay for your defense. Consider Pre-paid Legal, or an umbrella liability policy. Or forget spending money on a gun and get a life insurance policy: if the creep kills you, the insurance company will pay out to your beneficiaries that being said, if Insurance wont' pay defense for what appears to be a legit shooting, dont' believe they will a bad shooting either. -
To me, it came down to the exact question, 'Sir, are there any firearms in the vehicle?"
-
*****Just my opinion, I have not taken my class yet nor am I a legal expert.***** Just a couple weeks ago, I was driving in Clinton, with my wife. Neither of us was carrying. I was stopped for speeding. The officers question was, 'Sir, are there any firearms in the vehicle?" I was able to answer no. So, I would believe it would be best so answer the question honestly up front with a yes if indeed there is one, and let it proceed down the path that you are the one carrying and you have your permit.

I don't have mine yet, but I have decided. I will keep mine in my wallet. I will not be flashing it around for all to see. There will be no reason for me to let everyone to know I have it. Family, close friends will know I have it. I havne't taken my class yet, but I have been doing allot of reading, here and other sites. I picked up some thoughts, if I do something that might provoke a fight while carrying it could be bad for me.

WWII Reenactment in a Posted City Park?
vontar replied to vontar's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Ah, seems they have planned well. -
I know this is Silly but I have to point this out. Coming up Oak Ridge is having their Secret City Featival and part of it in the City park will be a WWII Reenactment. Just wondering, since the City Parks are posted as a no carry/no weapons can they really do that? Sure they fire blanks but the guns are techincally still weapons. They will have an asortment of WW2 military knives and bayonets. Plus a Tank or 2. I guess they have to fill a ton of paper work and get it approved and signed by to allow an exception to the rule right

Sorry if I I am a bit off topic but the thread on Auto knives got me thinking. I normally carry a pocket Knife with me every where, never give it a second thought. Just a regular folding knife, like a buck, or a case in my pocket, sometimes a leatherman on my belt nothing auto about them. At what point is a pocket knife illegal to carry in an area where there is one of those 14x6 posted signs. "MISDEMEANOR. STATE LAW PRESCRIBES A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF ELEVEN (11) MONTHS AND TWENTY-NINE (29) DAYS AND A FINE NOT TO EXCEED TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($2,500) FOR CARRYING WEAPONS ON OR IN PUBLIC RECREATIONAL PROPERTY." I guess those signs could apply to knives? I think I read some place blades on pocket knives have to be less then a certain lenght to be legal?

question about my birth records for Getting Carry permit
vontar replied to vontar's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I already checked, pretty Much I know I will be using the Clinton Driver License location and the finger print location in Knoxville. I guess the 115 Dollars I pay the state goes to the Drivers license place but covers the finger printing as well? I looked closer at my Certificate of LIve Birth, it appears to be from the state, next time I am in Clinton I will try to check with the Driver License place to see if that would be accepted. I believe it should be. -
I am trying not to ask questions that have probably been ask multiple times here. I am reading and using the resources in the sticky thread at Tennessee Handgun Permit Resources . I am planning to take The Hand Gun Class Next Month here in Oak Ridge, I have been talking with the guys over at Austin's. I understand when I complete the course there, there are a few thing I have to finish up on my own to complete the process. I want to make sure I have this right. 1. Take and pass the course and get Proof I passed the course. 2. I take the proof and my Official Birth Certificate to the Driver License Office to apply for the Carry Permit? 3. I go to another Office in Knoxville to be fingerprinted ? ********* I am wondering if I have the correct paper work for the Office Birth certificate. I have my actually birth certificate from the Hospital and I have a second one I believe Mom applied for once when I was a kid when she could not find that when it was lost for a time being. The first one is the one Mom/Dad came home from the Hospital with, Cerfifies that I was born. The second is Certificate of LIve Birth by the Ohio Department of Health. (I do not claim anything OH. Dad only went up there to work) Also, when I go to the drivers license place, they just copy what I have right? I keep the orignal ? This one has the hospital seal and even my feet prints on it. So think I have the right stuff ?
