I believe I can answer that question now before taking the class. BTW, I just found out when I can sign up for class, heading over to talk with Mike after work.
-
actually I was just going to talk to Mike when I know for certain which class I get to take. I should know my shedule this week for next month. I requested time off.

well yea, i have read it both ways. Kinda hard to know who is joking and who is not. By all means, how many times have we read a story where someone shot themself while cleaning their gun because they did not know it was loaded. As simple as it is to check to see if a gun is loaded, I could image the class going into details of wanting people to know how to fully clean and care for their gun. I am just going to go to class, pay attention, and do what is expected. And before class, I will know how to fully clean the pistol I am taking whether or not I need to know it for the class or not, as it it something I should know anyways for both Dad's pistol and any future pistols I plan to own.
-
well my real concern was breaking down Dad's Gun more than anything. I am going to be testing with it. Soon after, (money being the delaying factor) I plan to buy a New .22 Ruger Mark III for Target practice and Yes, I will learn to totally break it down for cleaning. I guess I just was not expecting to do it in the class with Dad's.
-
BTW, all seriousness, would it be legal to own something like that? If it would be legal to own, what would someone have to do to own it, and then where/how could someone get one? I would really like to have one, but only if legal.

Interesting, finding new uses for heavy equipment. anyone notice he was not wearing a hard hat for safety. osha won't stand for that. I would not have been the reporter that stood under it near the end I bet not one of the models near the beginning went home with him either.

Hey now, what is with this full dis assembly and re assembling bit, I am not a gun smith. Will be be expected to take apart our own gun ? or will they have practice guns for that part that they hopefully teach on? This might be the touchest part for me here.

I shall fear no evil. For I carry a big stick and am the meanest SOB in the whole dam valley. Maybe there is something wrong with me. Alone, I am not scared, however if I have my wife with me to protect then that is when I have concerns. I too wish I had more money to put together a bigger for when the SHTF plan.

Maybe I live in an Ok part of Oak Ridge, but yea there are some places one should not be after Dark.

Just wondering, how many questions on are on the HCP test? Is it like a 50 question test? more? true/false Multiple choice? essay, please say no here. What can I expect, with out telling me something I should not know.
-
well, here again, I am taking 2 classes same day, NRA Pistol and HCP. I know HCP is 48 shots and NRA will be at least 48 more. He told me to bring 100 rounds. I am going to bring 100, and another 100 in my truck just in case we get to do some extra. I am just itching to take the class now, for the past couple weeks I have been eatting, sleeping and pretty muching thinking about it.
-
Why do you think I want my HCP now, I never felt I needed it in the past. I have always had guns in my home. Now I want to be able to carry when I go on trips a little as 5 miles down I 75. I seriously may not carry everywhere around town, YET. but when I leave Oak Ridge I will be carrying. I am even considering buying and mounting a small 2 gun safe in my truck for those times I have to leave it in my truck.

I can not wait for it, well I guess I can, I just have too.

I am sorry to see this. Now this is making me do something that they obviously are not doing. I don't even need to pick up a Bible for this, first thing that comes to mind. The 2 verses I knew, but I had to look up the books, chapters and verses. Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. John 8:7 (King James Version) So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Westboro needs to spend some extra time reading their Bibles, I am trying to be as nice as I can about this. Things like this get my blood boiling. Groups that foster hate are not the teachings I was taught in the Bible. That is more cult and I will have no part of a cult.

Right now, I am still waiting to find out if I am getting the day of class off at work. I am pretty sure my Boss is anti gun, hell he seems anti anything fun. So I didnt' tell him why I wanted a day off, I just ask for the day off a month in advance, I will probably get it. The instructor knows my situation and how I almost took his class last year and why I didn't get to, he told me even if I am late in finding out He will do his best to work me in. I should know this week if I have my day off and a spot in the class. BTW, with what I am reading here and what I have been reading on my own, I am not worried about the class. I do expect to learn some things that I have not come across yet and to pick up some good information.

I like seeing the break down. I knew it was 48 shots. I knew I was actually allowed to miss quite a few. I don't want to miss any during the test. A year ago when I first decided to take the class, I was a bit cocky when the instructer talked about every class he awards a engraved 50 cal bullet prize for best shooter, I joked I would get it. Now, a year later after spending some time with the pistol, I feel I will hit my target but I will probably be up against better marksman/women, and I am ok with that. Right now, I will be happy to step up to the mark, put 48 in the black, hopefully all inside the 8 ring or better . I don't want to just pass, I want to do the best I can.

Man if you where in Oak Ridge I could turn you on to a local company I have used twice. I have no more dangerous tress in my yard thanks to them. However you are a bit far.
-
I looked up the distances, 3 yards, 7 yards and 15 yards. I had practices the most about 7-10 over the past year before I knew, so the past couple times I went I mostly shot at 15 yards. Not yesterday but the time before I pulled in to 3 yards and 7 yards and well i felt I was close I only used 6 rounds at 3 yards and 12 at 7, I did good at those short shots. I was more concerned at 15 yards which this whole target was.
-
cool, the guy i am going to take the class with loves to show a target with the center destoried but I tell myself, he owns a gun store, probably shoots every other day. Myself, I shot rifles from 5 to 18, went to college, barely shoot anything from 18 to 34, for the past year I have been off and on shooting Dad's pistol getting ready. Truth be told, I have only had time to go about 5 times or so to practice. I plan to get in at least 2 more practice sessions before the class. When I picked up his pistol last year, I had to get used to it's safety, how all the features work on it, as it is a mark one, the chamber closes after the last round, etc. Now, I feel good with his, but I want my own Mark 3 now.

Been shooting at a B-27 at 15 yards yesterday with the pistol I plan to test with. I did about 150 rounds, I know I am not a Marksman with a pistol like most everyone here. I still say for Marksman ship give me a rifle but I feel the B-27 would not have been a threat after I was down. Let me know any reason this would not pass? I am going to get this out now, the FAR Left out side the 7, Dad did that as a very first shot, as soon as we got set up, the only shot he took. The very far Right outside the 7, well, I knew it when I did it, I pulled off bad. The rest was all me, no excuses.
