Out of State Armslist Safe Transaction Question
c.a.willard replied to runco's topic in General Chat
You could call an FFL in that persons area and see if they would be willing to act as an escrow. You send them payment in the form of MO or Cashiers check they hold it until he brings in gun to be shipped to you. I think in this case it would also be reasonable for you to pay the FFL for their troubles -
A Case for the Full-Size 9mm Handgun
c.a.willard replied to daddyo's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I should just mount a MK19 to my truck, cause nothing says self defense like a grenade machine gun. :) -
http://www.vidalatinasd.com/news/2014/Jan/28/mexican-govt-signs-agreement-with-vigilante-groups/ source for the photo. I am wondering if the caution tape may be being utilized as a field expediate friend foe identification measure.

Ok may need some help with this??
c.a.willard replied to bersaguy's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
eh either way keep it and shoot it, sale it, give it away. At least it has been released from it's 15 year confinement. -
Pro's Light weight Accurate low recoil high mag capacity decent trigger good ergonomics cons would be price and possibly terminal ballistics depending on whose reviews you believe. There is something to be said for low recoil even if your not "elderly or a female (dumb stereotype)" The majority of self defense shootings involve placing more than one round in the bad guy, even when the good guy is using a "proven manstopper". There was a good write up about the 5seveN on police one that showed good tumbling from the round. The reality is pistol rounds suck. If you look at an analysis of number of people shot with different handgun rounds you will see that one shot stop's are a rare occurrence with any handgun round. The typical shooting required anywhere from 2-3 rounds in the torso area for incapacitation regardless of caliber or bullet type. This tells me that there may be some value to being able to get those 3 rounds off as quickly and accurately as possible. A light recoiling gun assists in doing this. In the end carry what you want and are comfortable with.

ATF letter. Do you carry with the gun or leave it at home?
c.a.willard replied to lsp408's topic in Long Guns
It has happened a few times in the past. Most of the time the approval gets pulled because of a significant change in design from the approved prototype to the final production item. In this case the only thing that changed was color and a harder rubber was used. The approved prototype was made out of a rubber designed for prosthesis. A good example would be the Akins Accelerator. The final product had a spring to improve operation. That spring was ultimately what resulted in the ATF revoking their approval. The original prototype had no such spring and the spring changed the design significantly. The spring connected the receiver to the stock and would pull the receiver forward after recoil. All the mechanics of bump fire, like the slide fire but with an assisting spring. -

I keep a copy of it folded up inside a ziplock bag that is placed inside the grip. -
Coke's America the Beautiful - Give me your thoughts
c.a.willard replied to Shug's topic in General Chat
America is a multicultural nation. I have no issue whatsoever with America the Beautiful being sung in multiple languages. It representative of the diversity that makes up this nation. On a slightly different topic, what i have issues with from the super bowl is the fact that the NFL is a 25 billion dollar a year money generating machine that pays no taxes. -
Gun buyback fail - Bring your own tissues
c.a.willard replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
If for no other eason, they should sell it to cover the cost of the buy back program. As opposed to sticking the bill on the taxpayers. -
Its probably several factors, but i think piracy has a lot to do with it. It is not uncommon for people to just download the movie they want to see instead of waiting for the DVD. Getting the DVD to market faster helps cut down on some of the illegal downloads. Manufacturing of DVD's has also become more efficient and cheaper in the last decade increasing the profit margin for that area of the movie market.

I prefer Incog and marathon Incog is way more comfortable than wearing a tinfoil hat and marathon really helps with the PT tests.

Destructive 9mm ammunition
c.a.willard replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
The 9mm xpd rounds are 25 grains heavier and designed to retain weight on impact. The R2 ammo breaks up into 9 very small sections. That's pretty much the same as firing 9 #BBB shot pellets at probably a speed of around the 1450 fps mark. It looks interesting, but without seeing some serious independent testing i wouldn't trust my life to it. -
AFAIK, the micros were designed for rifles that have a higher receiver rail than the traditional AR such as the XCR and the SCAR. My personal opinion is that if they are truly being used as a back up there is not a need t spend that kind of money on the sights, a set of MBUS sights would work just fine.

All the parts came in today, so here is a pic as promised I still need to go out and get a rear sling mount.

Pay varies for most places from barely above unarmed pay (minimum wage) to upwards of 17-18 an hour, with the majority falling into the lower pay band. With special skills you may be able to find employment at one of the higher end private security providers. You must complete a armed guard course and be certified through the state. Guns and leather in Greenbrier offers the class. I believe its around 215 for the class, ammunition, and fingerprinting. The majority of them require your to provide your own weapon and equipment, duty belt, flash light, holster etc.

New Red Dot: Eyeball Puke
c.a.willard replied to Father Goose's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Do you by chance have an astigmatism. It's a pretty common occurrence for people with an astigmatism to experience this when using a red dot. -
I'm not going to argue weather the guys actions were right or wrong, that will be beat to death enough and eventually the courts will decide. But, a loaded rifle slung on your back is just as accessible as a loaded hand gun in a holster, hands full or not (it takes milliseconds to drop whats in your hands). try it some time. Im right handed so reverse directions for lefties. Take a two point sling attach it to your rifle. Sling the rifle over your back with the mussel pointing down and right. The sling should be on your left shoulder. With your right hand reach back and grab the rifle around the hand guard, pull the rifle to the front, the sling will slide across your body transfer hand guard into left hand grab pistol grip with right hand. The rear portion of the sling will end up running under your right arm pit. with a little practice the process is very quick. You may have to play around with sling length to get it to work well.

I can't think of a single way to eliminate the bloom without hindering your ability to gather light into the NVD. Switching to a gen 3 tube will not solve the problem completely, your still getting to much light from the dot. You have a couple of options, a better optic with a NV setting will solve the problem and still be less expensive than a gen 3 tubes or decent thermal sight. If your really on a tight budget i would recommend the vortex strike-fire. PSA has them right now for around 115. Sightmark also has a NV compatible red dot for around 150, looks kind of like a eotech bastard child. The other option is to find a rail mounted IR lazer that is within your budget. Lazermax makes a small rail mounted IR lazer that i believe costs in the 150's, not sure the quality. Obviously you can go way up from there in price to milspec devices like the PEQ2 or PVS 4.

FBI Releases new stats on background checks completed for 2013
c.a.willard replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
A little shy of 21 million background checks conducted nationwide in 2013. And "some people" actually want to expand that number. It's a small miracle the NICS system can keep up as is, even with all the problems with the system. Hey, maybe whomever designed that system should have built the ACA sight. -
