  1. I have a hard copy of FM 21-76, its a good overall guide. I think the digital copy is around 2mb. not trying to hijack a thread, just another good manual to add to your toolbox.
  2. lets just say one officer for every 3 square miles to be on the safe side. Cost of equipping and shifts and all that. I think id rather have an additional officer in the area than a microphone picking up gunshots. That officer isnt limited to just recording one very specific type of crime. Im sure its a great tool but its throwing a lot of money to solve one specific issue when you can spend the same a amount to have significantly reduced response times and incresed community presence.
  3. With a cost of 60,000 per square mile (if the article is accurate), its definately cool tech and variants of it have been put for a while now but wow 60,000 a square mile. For that kind of money how many more peace officers could you put on the street and what would the impct of that be on gun crimes.
  4. My class was even shorter, we only had 6 people in class. The 8 hour schedule at G&L was designed around larger classes with a small lunch break. Its a matter of teaching to standard and not to time. When you only have a few people the range portion goes alot faster, and theres fewer individual questions during the lecture portion. So all and all alot of the time ends up being cut out. The amount of information he got in that 4 hours is most likely identical to those who attended for a full 8 hours or longer. I know at G&L they have five lanes that they use for the qualification portion, so when you have small classes like 5-10 it goes really fast.
  5. dont own either but the PPS is suppose to be one of the best feeling guns out there. Alot of people claim the ergonomics of them are amazing. The magazine release location on the PPS will definately solve youre problem of unintentionally dropping mags. i say shoot them both and see which one feels best. The PPS is the thinner and lighter of the two but i dont think it would be a noticeable difference.
  6. From the ATF's website “Handgun” is defined under Federal law to mean, in part, a firearm which has a short stock and is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand… Gun Control Act of 1968, 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(29). Under an implementing regulation of the National Firearms Act (NFA), 27 C.F.R. § 479.11, “pistol” is defined as: … a weapon originally designed, made, and intended to fire a projectile (bullet) from one or more barrels when held in one hand, and having (a) a chamber(s) as an integral part(s) of, or permanently aligned with, the bore(s); and ( a short stock designed to be gripped by one hand and at an angle to and extending below the line of the bore(s). The NFA further defines the term “any other weapon” (AOW) in 26 U.S.C. § 5845(e) as: … any weapon or device capable of being concealed on the person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive, a pistol or revolver having a barrel with a smooth bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell, weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12 inches or more, less than 18 inches in length, from which only a single discharge can be made from either barrel without manual reloading, and shall include any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire. Such term shall not include a pistol or revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons designed, made, or intended to be fired from the shoulder and not capable of firing fixed ammunition. ATF has long held that by installing a vertical fore grip on a handgun, the handgun is no longer designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand. Therefore, if individuals install a vertical fore grip on a handgun, they are “making” a firearm requiring registration with ATF’s NFA Branch. Making an unregistered “AOW” is punishable by a fine and 10 years’ imprisonment. Additionally, possession of an unregistered “AOW” is also punishable by fine and 10 years’ imprisonment."
  7. Im not a NFA expert but i thought the foward grip on it since its a pistol makes it an AOW and not an SBR. It doesnt become an SBR untill it has a stock added
  8. A chest rig will work fine for a secondary, the key is good tight equipment and training. minimise loose items and straps and keep everything as tight to the body as you can. Put it on jump around do a sprint and see how much movement you have. Like dolomite said if you have anything on the sides it stands a very likely chance of hindering use of a belt holster. The bigest thing is practice practice practice. Your sling and rifle can get in the way of your pistol when doing transitions with a chest rig. This is typically easily overcome with training. A good holster for tactical use should cover the barrel completely so clogging it with mid should not be an issue. As far as being in the prone position goes having anything anywhere can end up uncomfortable. The reality is that if your worrying about a secondary weapon system your probably in the type of enviorment where your very unlikely to enter a prone position. If the BG is far enough away that i have the luxury of being stationary and proned out then im gonna take the time to get my rifle back in the fight and when the adrenilin is surging you dont really notice those things being uncomfortable. transitions are typically for 35m or closer depending on your capabilities that can be extended out a little further.
  9. I have to disagree with all the ACU hating, Ive individually tested it with the Soldiers at work who said it was a crap pattern. I put them in different locations in a wooded enviornment with different types of equipment. selected a group of soldiers to attempt to locate them. then i rotated the gear load out so that people hiding n the exact same area had different gear on. The ACU pattern did remarkably well, i attribute alot of this to it being a little later in the season and having alot of greys in the trees. The guy covered head to toe in ACU was always the last to be spotted even after the guy covered in the woodland camp pattern. The first people spotted were the ones wearing black caps or gloves and the guys with weapons also black. greys are also ome of the first colors to loose visibility during low light. Thats one of the reasons the navy adopted battleship grey. your flat greens also drop out pretty quickly. The reality of it is that no camo patter works great in every area during every season. The best cammo advise i can give is stay away from anything black. It is a color that the eye naturally picks out better than others and the last color to drop out of visibility during darkness. Multicam is great but for TN youd be just as well off to use real tree cammo for the greener times of the year and switch to ACU's in the winter months
  10. I'd recommend going with any quality M.O.L.L.E. rig. Which one depends on what you want it to be capable of doing, as far as just holding mag carriers and a pistol just about any will fit the bill. For a slight difference in price id invest in a plate carrier. Still extreamly usefull without plates but allows you the ability to expand later on down the line. If you ever get up to the clarksville area shoot me a PM i have a few you could try and see what you like best/lear where you like your gear set up.
  11. I agree thats its a highly fluid number especially when you get down to specific numbers, but it at least establishes a base line. All im saying is that there is no real benifit for the government to show up and try and take an individuals food stores. I just dont see it as a realistic fear. There are however legitimate reasons for them to ask that information. If anyone wishes to not take part in the survey id think a simple and polite "i dont wish to participate in your survey have a nice day" would do. The people comming to your door are still people and are deserving of at least some common courtesy without paranoia and disrespect.
  12. On the 1st of the month when they gave me my pay check And yes i think the door to door may be a bit much the purpose could be served fine by an anonomys survey. But without asking people how much food they have stored up could you tell me how much food your city would need if it was cut off for a week or a month.
  13. I wonder how the lower would look with stainless peices instead of milling the outside of the receiver. Like just polishing the selector lever, bolt catch, mag release and pins.
  14. The worry seems just odd to me, Somepeople will go online and tell people theve never met their survival preparedness, but wont tell an agency whos purpose is to assist in emergancy preparedness. Lets be real here whats the cost benifit analysis on taking your emergancy rations vs taking everything off the walmart shelf or bringing in some of the wearhouses full of MRE's that are out there.
  15. I think its really all about where to allocate funding. FEMA has a limited budget like everyone else and some of that budget should be allocated to emergancy rations, but to do that you need to realize how many rations you need and when you need them. IE do i need to bring in food by day three or do most people have enough to get them through till day seven. I think the intention behind this was not at all sinister, but then again you know what they say about the road to hell.
  16. Customer service
  17. Are there any identifying marks on the longer one at all. I dont thinks its a ceremonial sword, it would likely be a little more ornate. Having such a blunted edge and and no visible markings reminds me of some of the training weapons of the WW1 WW2 era.
  18. Betty White (not that i have anything against her, its just im pretty sure shes already undead and id like to end the spread before it begins) Paris Hilton Fred Phelps (Pastor at Westboro Baptist Church)
  19. Question, it looks like it is because it can be used to replace sound dampening materal, so in that case would it be illegal to own extra baffles in case you get a baffle strike and have to replace one.
  20. First he steals my spot on the bed, now he claims my new rifle. What can i say at least the dog has good taste
  21. I know i may regret recomending this on a gun forum, but if you truely can not find a firearm that she can not safely or comfortably handle you may consider a different route and try any number of different electronic control devices. the Taser C2 for example is fairly small, light and comfortable. Any weapon in a self defense situation is better than none.

300 rounds through it today. of course not a single malfunction. Only thing that i didnt like is that the rear sight cam from the factory a little off center. Which isnt really a big deal, ill already be at G&L tomorrow so ill just stop by the smith real quick and have them adjust it.

i replaced the trigger spring. I debated leaving the old one but i was a little worried about it being to light for carry purposes

Received the DCAEK and the RAM in the mail today. Man were you guys right. The trigger break is crisp and there is almost zero overtravel, the reset is nice and positive and audible. Definitely well worth the monmey. Depending on how well this thing performs at the range tomorrow i may have my kimber warrior posted for sale on here later.

Just ordered them from Midway wends night. Should have waited to see some more of the responses for who in the area had them, but i'm a little impatient. I ordered the DCAEK and the RAM. Should be waiting for me by the time i get home. So as long as they get here when there supposed to i should be able to get them installed prior to hitting the range this weekend. Thanks for everyone's responses. Best part of hitting the range this weekend is that i have a prescheduled excuse not to have to go see twilight with the wife.
