HB0355 (McDonald): Parking lot bill filed 2/7/11
strickj replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
yes, you have mentioned some regulations business must abide by. How does that keep them from being private entities and how does that keep them from writing the rules for usage? -
From the fine folks that brought us "removing take down pins will wear out the take down pin holes".

Gonna have to close this one down. It would not be fair to the trainers that pay to advertise here for this thread to continue. See here General Information for information on how to become an authorized vendor.

HB0355 (McDonald): Parking lot bill filed 2/7/11
strickj replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Robert, buddy, business are private property. Private property is private property is private property. Private property is owned by a person with real rights. That person has the right to regulate and write the rules for his property. Not you. Prove me wrong here. Edit: please provide actual proof and not just the opinion that "a business is faceless". Edit2: You know, I own a business. My business was not created by the government, nor did I have to get permission to create it. My business is not "faceless", either. That said, I operate out of my home. Because my home is also my business, does that mean that I do not have the right to write the rules for my property? -

Trying to argue that a business, a business owner, or a "face less entity" has no rights to write rules for public usage simply because they are open to the public is just silly. If what you are arguing was correct, then I would be able to take my McDonald's Big Mac to the movies and not get kicked out. A movie theaters' rules are always going to say "no outside food or drink allowed". If what you are arguing was correct, then you would be able to post whatever you wanted to on TGO (a faceless entity). If what you are arguing was correct, then you would be able to do whatever you wanted, where ever you wanted, as long as the place was 'open to the public'. A business is private property and it is owned by a person. That person has the right to spell out the rules in order to make his property fully enjoyable to him. You are merely a guest. A guest that has every right to leave if you are unhappy with those rules. It makes no difference if it is open to the public or not. There is private property and then there is public property. you can continue to argue this until you are blue in the face, but at the end of the day, there will still only be the two. -

This thread has gotten way off track and I'm not even going to attempt to bring up points and reply to posts made forty posts ago since my last login What I will ask is, Robert, how is a business an 'artificial entity'? Can you provide something that show's that business are not owned by people and are not private property/entity? -

Worriedman, you do not have any rights on another's private property. Whether real or perceived. unalienable rights to protecting yourself can not be taken from you, but like stated, a gun is merely a tool. It's an item. An object. That's all. It is not anything else. A gun can be taken away from you. If you get arrested and hauled off to jail, you will have your gun taken away from you, but you will still have the unalienable right to defend yourself from Big Bubba when he make's his move on you. Even though your right to carry a gun was taken, your right to defend yourself remained. If you choose to use that tool for your protection and your boss say's 'not here', then you can choose to find another job, or to not carry. It's your choice. You do not have any rights to that job, nor the right to use or enjoy the owners' property. Simple as that. It does not matter who the owner of the private property is. It does not matter if there is a sign and a parking lot in the front of the property, or a mailbox and a lawn in front of the property (house). The property is still owned by a person, and that person has the right to regulate the rules as he see's fit. Why are you trying to debate the right to enjoy your property? Yes, the government can regulate dangerous things/activities on private property. That does not mean that you do not have the right to enjoy your property. We live in a free society... but we will always have laws, regulations, etc. to abide by. Does that mean that we are not still a free society? I agree with that. My car is my car is my car is my car. I'm not going to let anyone tell me what I can or can not keep in it (legal of coarse). But, being this is an at-will work state, your boss can tell you that you cant keep catchup (or katsoup) packets in your dashpocket if he want's to. Not much you can do about it shy of making this a right-to-work state. It's just one of those things in life where when you willing choose to do something (ie,work) you also agree to do things that you do not want to, or find another job. -

Worriedman, you are confusing self defense and personal security with gun carrying. Carrying a gun is not self defense or personal security in and of itself. A gun is merely a tool in which to assist in the action. You are forgetting that you have absolutely no rights to another's property. None. Zero. Zilch. If you do not like the rules in which have been burdened upon you, then leave the property. Your "right" to carry a gun does not trump a property owners rights to tell you "no guns", "no worshiping", or "no red and purple polka-dotted socks". I challenge you to show where your"2nd amendment right applies to non-government entities. -

See 'unalienable rights' In TN, you have public property (parks, roadways) and private property (homes, businesses). I understand that a home 'is not the same'... but, it is still private property. Even if owned by a corporation. I do not want the government to tell a business owner that he, by law, has to let me carry a gun on his property. Oh, I agree that having a gun in the car is not going to harm anyone. Also agree that having to disarm sucks.... but, carrying a gun is my choice the same as it's a property owner's choice to tell me 'no'. When it come's to who's choice (or "right") is more important, the property owner comes out on top. That is because it's his property, and you or myself, have no rights to be there. -

Actually, a property owner's real rights do supersede an individual's perceived rights. That is because a property owner has the real right to the full use and enjoyment to their property. An individual choosing to visit has no such rights to another person's property. It would be no different then me pulling my truck in your driveway at 3am and yelling out of my window as loud as I can. I certainly have the 1st amendment right to say what I want.... but I have absolutely no rights to yell in your driveway nor do I have the right to park my truck there. As far as this bill goes, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I am all for any advancements in gun carry, but at the same time, I do not want to force someone to allow me to carry on their property. On top of that, it really is nothing more then a 'feel good bill'. TN being a work-at-will state, you can still be fired for whatever, for the most part. -
Don't count Watson out just yet. He has actually already beat Jennings and others in the pre-show tests. It's averaging in the 90+% correct range. That is only going to improve as time goes by as the computer 'learns' as it goes. It's major problem at the moment are with questions that have a play on words. I'm really anxious to see how well it does on the actual show.

So I spoke with Applebees about their posting

They should make a law requiring a sign to be posted saying it's illegal to post signs that are not legal. Problem solved! -
No, Joe is so bad-ass that his guns have real balls hanging off of them

Wow! Tipping the AutoZone guy.... that's a new one! I used to deliver for Napa and never received a tip. Worked there for about a year before moving on to inside/outside sales and delivery guy for a large automotive specialty company. The 5 years or so that I worked there I never received a tip either. Occasionally I would get a candy bar or ice cream thrown at me from a lunch truck while at a shop. That was always nice. Worked as a bag-boy as a teen and made excellent money from tips at that job. My best tipper was the owner of Lay-Row-Catch-a-Mellow BBQ sauce. He would tip 20 which was often more the what he would spend on his groceries. As far as my tipping goes, I usually leave a 5 across the board. Barber, servers (places like Chilis, plus whatever the rest of my party leaves), etc.. A nice restaurant will receive more of coarse. Places like Sonic, Starbucks, Ankars, etc. will not get a tip from me. I figure being handed a sack is not deserving. ETA: I once "talked":tough: to a girl that was a server at a buffet. She drove a new Lexus SUV at the time. She made an absolute killing on tips!

Concealed carry question...
strickj replied to Plain Old Dave's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Irony: A "Marine poolee" that doesn't understand the document that he will be fighting to protect. The Constitution is a document that protects your rights from being taken from the government. It is not a document giving you the right to say anything, anywhere, that you damn well please. This forum is not run by the government. You can not say whatever you wish here. If someone wants to advocate breaking the laws, then they will be removed. Simple as that. Now, that said, it seems that you are trying your best to bring negative attention to yourself here. Almost troll like. I would strongly suggest that you do what others told you in the 1911 thread and stfu about stuff you have no knowledge on. -

The only irony here is your misuse of the word "irony", Marine. -
I have several things tactical. Everything has a real purpose for me though. My tactical pants last for a couple of years vs a couple of months(if that-I'm rough on clothes) for jeans. My tactical heat shield keeps me from burning my knee(****ing ouch!). My tactical gloves are thinner, warmer, and much more durable then anything else available.

Imagine how much revenue TN would receive in increased permit "sales" by offering that $10 "discount" for permit holders buying from FFLs.
