I was raised by a single mother. I find your reasoning for legislating "morality" here offensive and just flat out wrong. Gangs are not a result of "broken families", They are a result of irresponsible parent(s). STDs are not a result of "broken families". They are a result of irresponsible adults not using protection. (STD outbreaks were worst in middle ages...everyone was religious and shameful then, ya know) Promiscuity is not the result of "broken families". People have been sleeping around since day one. Says so right there in the bible. Career welfare recipients are not a result of "broken families". They are the result of lazy adults that have learned how to work the system.

Zat aimed at me, 6.8? I'm not cheapening your views or marriage. I just do not want religious opinion made law. Ain't right. It's unconstitutional. It's discriminatory. Far as the majority wins goes, you do realize that the majority do not want citizens carrying guns, right? You do realize that the majority once thought slavery was ok, right? You do realize that the majority one kept women from voting, right? Mike; Would that be lesbian hookers? I'm there! I like warm weather anyway. Hookers and whiskey just adds to it.

Nope. He said anyone who is unable to reproduce is immoral. That leaves only fertile folks with kids. Must be a lot of folks downstairs, eh?
-
Guess that means sterile people and the old are going straight to hell... since they can't have kids and all. Makes as much since as legislating religious opinion, suppose.

Thanks. Keep in mind that just because unemployment is up, that doesn't necessarily mean that manufacturing jobs are down. Manufacturing is just one sector the US has today. At any rate, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with ya, as I really do not know one way or the other. Just thought the docu was interesting and sounded very convincing. You should watch it. PBS isn't the devil. http://www.pbs.org/weta/carrier/

Tanker; sounds good but all of those figures are kinda trifling without including the figures for new jobs. 6.8; Unemployment rates don't really mean anything. The unemployment rate in Chattanooga has remained steady over the past ten years or so. National unemployment rate is 8.3%. Chattanooga is sitting just above the national average at 8.4. Like every city, Chattanooga has seen some big hits in manufacturing over the years. But the city has also added thousands of jobs to replace the hundreds that have been lost. VW alone currently has a staff of 2,700 people (April figures) with exceptions of 3,500 employees by the end of the year. That does not include the supply and support jobs from their distributors and part manufactures that have opened up in and around the city.

Mexico dissolves its FBI and moves to legalize drugs
strickj replied to plank white's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yeah, and quackery elixirs were considered revolutionary back then. They were uneducated, simple and believed anything that sounded convincing enough. The propaganda that fueled prohibition was pure fear tactics from religious organizations. No studies. No science. Nothing. Just the opinions of a bunch of over-reaching do-gooders. Modern day science, medicine and decades of studies and research have gone into narcotics use. I agree with that. Problem is, narcotics are part of the root of the problem. It's not about making excuses for their crimes. Do you really think that the dope fiends have convinced modern day doctors, scientists and law enforcement that? Yes. But not all mind alternating substances are created equal. Advil has different affects then chemotherapy. Alcohol has a different affect than cocaine. Humph, tequila has a different affect then wine, even (ask me how I know). See the difference? -
Mexico dissolves its FBI and moves to legalize drugs

Will have to look that up again. Took me forever to find the 2005 cash forfeiture. Totals are released in the congressional testimonials... I think. Not true at all. Substances and addiction are very powerful things. http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/topics-in-brief/drugs-brains-behavior-science- Scientifically proven. No, I do not. Alcohol is a mind altering substance, sure, but it does not effect the brain quite like drugs do. Take pharmaceuticals for instance. Each medicine has a different set of side effects. Same thing with alcohol and narcotics. -
Hadn't thought of that. Certainly open my options up

Mexico dissolves its FBI and moves to legalize drugs
strickj replied to plank white's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Figure did not include property seizures. With all seizures, they break even or come close to breaking even, depending on the year. The one seizure I linked to from 2007 totaled nearly the entire year's worth of seizures from 2005. And I'm not sure why you keep comparing drugs to inanimate objects. Drugs are mind altering substances. Drugs cause people to steal, rob, rape and murder whilst under it's influence or in an attempt to get another fix. Guns, cars, whatever, do not do that. -
Are there any sheaths available for larger double edge blades? Specifically looking for 3.5 and 5 inch blades. All I can find are sheaths for smaller knives. Help me out knife aficionados!

Mexico dissolves its FBI and moves to legalize drugs
strickj replied to plank white's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Drug enforcement (federal, state and local) budgets are kinda irrelevant. The DEA seized 339 million dollars in cash in 2005 (the last year I can provide a link) for. http://www.justice.gov/oig/reports/DEA/a0706/final.pdf They seized 210 million in Mexico City in 2008 in one raid alone. Not included in those figures is property seizures. They seize a crap ton of vehicles, guns and even houses, which are all auctioned off. Drug enforcement at all levels should be self sustaining or near self sustaining. -
Mexico dissolves its FBI and moves to legalize drugs

Did some quick research. Seems all drugs have been legal in Mexico since 2008(?). The AFI was created to fight government corruption and violence from cartels and traffickers. -

I agree with both statements I never quite understood why people think legalizing drugs will somehow make the drug cartel's, cooks, gangs and dealers to give up their multimillion dollar trade. I also do not understand the comparison to alcohol probation. Never met an alcoholic that became hooked after one Long Island And before I get slammed here, marijuana is different than heroin or other harsh drugs. I think marijuana has already been legal in Mexico for sometime now. -

Romney Panders To NRA, Anti-Gunners. Simultaneously.
strickj replied to daddyo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Can someone link to the NRA endorsement for Romney? The only thing I'm coming up with is articles about is appearance at the NRA convention and some slams about his anti-gun past. http://www.nraila.or...h.aspx?s=romney Also found this little gem from 2007 Romney Claims NRA Endorsement He Didn't Receive -

The Difference Between Obama and Romney ?
strickj replied to plank white's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm not entirely sure what his plans are here. Will he use Romney Care or have something else written up? If the latter, has he stated what the differences will be? Not trying to continue the debate with that question. I honestly do not know.
