Just because I don't support the occupy movement, don't make the mistake of thinking I support big government. I oppose SOPA and PIPA, I did my part to help stop those. I send my congress critters emails whenever something I don't support, or I do support comes up. I don't support big government or lifetime membership to elected seats. However, when the dirty masses choose to burn the American Flag and start destroying property, that begins to be a huge problem with me. Of all the interviews I have seen, the few of these folks that I could understand them, all they could say is how life is unfair, they hate the rich, and that someone should fix it. However, I haven't seen a plan, they aren't doing anything proactive. Yeah, **** sucks. However you can either stand there and whine about your tire being flat, or you can get a jack out and change it. Your choice.

I don't consider the Occupy Movement 'people.' Lazy folks wanting a hand out is more of my opinion. Sure, there are folks out there that make a lot of money. That is capitalism. Thank god there is a form of government in the world where folks can get ahead with hard work and dedication. Is is a damn shame that there aren't more people that believe in hard work and dedication. I don't care for my family or how I was raised. My parents abandoned me and left me to raise myself for all intents and purposes. And thank god for it. Nothing in my life was ever handed to me. If I wanted it I earned it. I didn't stand in front of a building burning an American Flag and demand that I be given what someone else had earned.

Good job sir. My daughter is five, and she is my entire world. It warms my heart to see other fathers out there that care. Well, any parents that care. The world is becoming a cold place.

I have had that happen to me as well. One of my driver's left his iPhone at a store, the manager found it, my number was the last called, she called me and I went and picked it up. My driver finished his route, and I handed him his phone. Much to his surprise.

Shoplifter at Chilhowee Gun Show Jan 28th
Murgatroy replied to MattCary's topic in Events and Gatherings
I thought that was you, I showed up as everyone was leaving. -
I had a similar situation, but I was the finder. I took my family to the park, and as we were walking, we found a debit card. My daughter picked it up and brought it to me. I looked all around and we were the only folks there. I pulled out my phone, googled the name on it, and didn't find a number listed. So I called the number on the back, went through the automated hubaloo and when I finally got to a human I told them, "Hey I found this card laying on the ground, can you notify the owner, or deactivate it?" They deactivated it, and I threw it in the trash. An hour later, as my family and I were leaving two women came screeching into the parking lot, jumped out of the car and started running down the path. I knew instantly what they were looking for. I followed them and informed them of what I had done, and even went so far as to get the two halves of the card out of the trash can for them. The one woman who the card belonged to was furious that I had called and had it cancelled. Her friend however thanked me for doing the honest thing. The woman may have been angry at me, but I slept fine that night. I imagine how she would have slept if I had bought myself a new television...

Gunshot Heard Around the Gun Show
Murgatroy replied to Clod Stomper's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Nice revolver in your avatar. Ever carry it? -
The cheaper method is to have it covered up. If you search some shops in your area you will find someone who specializes in that. The second solution is to wear long sleeves and a collared shirt (that is what I do.) The best solution is to not get foolish tattoos, but yeah, what seems like a good idea today might not tomorrow. For the record I am covered in tattoos. I also work in an office environment. I am the 'young guy,' compared to several of my co-workers. There is a bit of friction over this, but nothing horrible. Sometimes it is difficult for folks in their late fifties/early sixties to understand a professional college educated person in their thirties covered in tattoos. It is the way of the future. Crew cuts and shirts and ties are becoming less common. I am sure the piercings don't help either. I don't regret any of my tattoos, and none of them (well two of them) were impulse decisions. I have meaning and thought behind all of my tattoos, and if they weren't so damn expensive, I would have even more of them. They are kinda like guns in that respect. I don't care if you care for them or not, but I like them.

I was there yesterday afternoon as well. Was this the heavyset blonde kid? I stood at the counter for a good twenty minutes waiting to get his attention, he even walked past my a few times while I was going "Hey, sir?" All he wanted to do was show off the pistols. I was wanting to take a look at a Mossberg 464. Some yuppie fellow was there looking at ARs with is girlfriend, I was impressed when the guy said "Would you please aim it over the counter at the wall, I don't think the other customers are happy with you pointing it at them." I was the customer and I was very vocal when I moved my wife and daughter out of the way and headed toward them. When I was there the kid was the only cat behind the counter, so I cut him some slack. I prefer dealing with Steve, the shorter older gentleman who works there. I have been buying guns from him for years (he came from Gander Mountain and Dick's before that.) I was sad with the service, but I was impressed with him directing the customers to aim behind the counter. Not to knock the OP, but what if someone had suddenly turned down the 'empty aisle?' I for one am very upset when someone aims a gun in my direction. Aiming up and over the counter is fine, folks have been shooting birds out of the sky for many years the same way. My five year old daughter has no issues aiming the same way getting a feel for a rifle.

There are a few extra charges skipped in there, the $8 shipping for the lower, the transfer fee ($25 in my case) and then $15 shipped for the upper. That still keeps it under $600. If you luck out you can wait till the uppers/build kits are on sale too (the same time as the lowers in my experience) and you can get the complete rifle built for ~$550.

Yeah, the 7.62x25mm is commonly called the 7.62 Tokorev. The 7.62x38mmR is a completely different animal. The Nagant revolver fires the 7.62x38mmR.
-
I had both of my lowers within two weeks of ordering. Uppers are made to order, and will have a two week lead time before shipping.

Wasn't that Romeo + Juliet of questionable quality done with modern accouterments? Then there is the fact that Shakespeare's tales have been told and retold for generations with only changing a few things, Sons of Anarchy? List_of_William_Shakespeare_film_adaptations With that said, this film looks good and has a great cast.

Anti-gun protest at Starbucks on Valentine's Day
Murgatroy replied to LagerHead's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am not much of a Starbucks customer, but I think I will be on Valentine's Day. -
That is a bull**** answer and you know it. I don't presume to speak for anyone else on this site, especially after David has been so gracious to allow you to stay, but for me, you are done. There is nothing you can say to bring yourself back from whatever place it is that you are. At least own your actions. I would have a bit of respect for that. Hiding behind laws? You cared naught for them when they didn't suit your purpose. My only hope is that one day you gain the ability to realize what a little person you really are and somehow manage to make amends for the wrongs that you have committed. You disgust me.

My, aren't you an unrepentant bastard? You are either a bigoted sonofabitch or you aren't. Answer the pointed question. A simple yes or no. It is obvious you said the things attributed to you. Have you apologized or not?
-
Oh hell, I missed that one. I am trying to stay out of it. I said my piece. I am not going to stand here and call him names, or attempt to shame him. I am appalled by his actions, but my feelings mean little of nothing. I am but a name on the internet. Just as he is to me. The real question is "At what point does he just crawl into a hole and leave?" Sadly I don't think he will. A post above me said that they just consider the source, and the posters history of immaturity. I do the same. I would ask if this forum had an ignore function, but then I would miss this train wreck, so I won't explore that opportunity.

Thoughts on private sale background checks
Murgatroy replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I understand that it does indeed take some time to conduct the transfer. However, wouldn't this be considered a guaranteed sale? It is not like they are going to have to hold said firearm for a month or more hoping to sell it to someone. Upon receipt of the firearm they know that the purchaser is going to walk through the door and take possession. I am certain that the $25 (what my local shop charges me for transfers) is less than what they will make on the sale of a stocking item, but it is still $25 they make for the transaction. I can't make the same statement for everyone, but when I make a transfer, I make a point of buying something else. Honestly who can walk into a gun store that they regularly do business with and not find something they want? I know that using myself isn't a perfect example, as I am sure there are many folks that don't make a separate purchase at the time of a transfer, but I still don't understand all the hostility that comes from a brick and mortar regarding transfers. Some of it I do understand, such as the dislike towards Bud's or other online retailers that don't have the overhead, but when I purchase something from a manufacturer and have it shipped and transfered, why the hostility? Now, with that said, I have not suffered this first hand, just through what other folks have mentioned. My local store that handles my transfers has always been polite and professional. This may or may not have to do with my being a fairly regular patron. -
This isn't Spring, Winter is just getting started. It is obvious 'y'all ain't from around here are ya?'

Woodys Steak House, north of Rivergate, anybody ever eat there?
Murgatroy replied to a topic in General Chat
I am not familiar with the locations in Nashville. However I have to add that of all the steakhouses in Knoxville, my personal favorite is Texas Roadhouse off of Morell Road. I have eaten at all the steakhouses in Knoxville, and I don't know what they do to the steaks at Texas Roadhouse, but none of them compare. Granted, there are classier places, but I base it on what steak I like. -
Thoughts on private sale background checks
Murgatroy replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I would have to believe it is lost revenue. However, why are so many shops hostile when it comes to terms of transfers? This is free money to them is it not? Is it the concept of losing a sale? The extra work involved in the paperwork? Are they required to log said firearm into their bound book? Would being required to do a background check on a private sale be the same process as a transfer? Would they be required to log the firearm in their bound book? All sorts of extra paperwork? So if a fair percentage of gun shops oppose transfers, why do they support background checks on private sales? I oppose background checks on private sales. It is not that I am adverse to a background check, after all, I submit to them whenever I buy a gun from a shop, or do a transfer for something. It is that it would create more hassle in private sales and trades. As it is already it can be difficult to get times to align to meet for a trade or sale now. I have had excellent transactions on this site from all that I have dealt with, but that is not to say that there have been occasions where myself or the other party has had to delay or postpone the sale due to time constraints. Imagine if we were then limited by the shop hours or the hours of the TBI for the background check. I don't want to see any more laws. I would like to see many of the laws now go away. However, I don't see this happening. Gun owners may be plentiful now, but sadly many of the modern gun owners believe they are better than the common citizen. That somehow the laws should only apply to everyone else, not realizing that calls for more legislation hurt everyone. As someone else mentioned above me, none of my guns have ever shot anyone. Why should I be penalized for someone else's alleged illegal activity. -
This is the second or third time I can think of that the OP has started a thread, then not liked the heat that he has gotten from it, then demanded the matter closed and not wanted to get into it. One of the other threads I am thinking of involves when he was being 'accosted' by the bill collector beating on his door for hours, then he bravely claimed that had he been armed he would have busted out of the house shooting. I don't want to be one to cast stones, but it seems suspect to me that when one's past or current actions are called into question, the OP would prefer to hide and deny than to explain or defend. I hate to say this, because your original letter was superb, but if this is how you behave, and and your past behavior is evidence, I am not sure I am comfortable with you speaking for me and other responsible gun owners in a public forum.

I prefer Kroger. I had four years with them in lower management before my current job. My wife is at Target now after six years at Walmart (then a five year break to raise our daughter.) We still shop at Walmart. The prices and selection make it hard to not shop there. That doesn't mean that is the only place we shop, but I am not gonna lie and say I boycott them. Price is king.

Sounds interesting to say the least.

They ran it. I am impressed. It is a shame the edited the way they did, but that is to be expected. Your past, which you have asked to be left out is an interesting twist that opens up a whole new can of worms.
