  1. I don't believe in driving new cars.
  2. It cost me $60 to register each of my cars. $40 of that was my custom plate. I was not required to pay taxes on the vehicles, as the tax rate was 6% in Kentucky and 'over 7%' in Tennessee. That is a little over half what I paid a year in Knoxville. My insurance dropped $20. For two cars. I sold my motorcycle last year. The 6% sales tax is much better than the 9.25% I was paying in Knoxville, and there is no tax on groceries. Yes, gas is more expensive. Yes there is a state income tax. Comes out to about 5% for me. This negates the salestax savings. But I am saving money on my groceries. at $400+ a month with no tax, it offsets the losses and nearly creates a gain. However, the nondriving issues is the worst for me. I have yet to meet a person up here that understands what a blinker is, what a speed limit is (either at or over) or that Kentucky actually has Keep Right Laws. Most drivers up here drive ten under, in the middle and left lanes. It is baffling.
  3. So things are good. The job is great, my stress level dropped exponentially. I have a longer commute, which sucks. No one up here knows how to drive, which makes that worse. I have already found two gun stores to call home. Both are nice, small owner operated shops with great prices. I have been buying my ammo from Five Point in Shelbyville for a while now. Oakwood guns in Louisville is another really nice place with a lot of mil-surp. If the wife had taken five more minutes at the boutique next door I would have walked out with a 91/30 in nice shape. I was bummed though, I wanted a rough one, and all he had were nice clean round receivers. I want to chop it up, and can't bring myself to ruin a nice one. They had a K98 Russian capture with all the Nazi markings struck out. Real nice shape on that one. So all in all it is good. Tomorrow I am going to head out to a little known WMA the owner of Five Point told me about just out of town and see what it is like. There are still a couple of shops just down the street from me I haven't visited yet, but I need too.
  4. By far my favorite Costner movie. Even though I complain about him, when pressed, I can't really find a movie of his I don't like.I remember first time I watched this, I was at my cousin's house. I watched my stone cold uncle cry. Damn good film.
  5. I will give you credit, after a few of the posts you have made, you keep coming back. That is a good sign. After we are done passing your around like a jug, there is a good chance you will be accepted.
  6. That is all I need to hear.I wonder where I can hide the stock my wife won't find it.
  7. I think I like it. Still feeling the stock out?

    Confused

I have an odd feeling you might not exactly fit in here... We are accepting of all people, but to first discover that you don't believe in the existence of zeds, then to find out that you do believe in the existence, and you would like to copulate with said zed... I am not sure I am comfortable. And you definitely wouldn't be welcome at my camp after the Zombie Apocalypse.
  9. The Focus would be the more practical of the two, having four doors. I keep waiting for them to bring the AWD Focus stateside, but they have yet to do that. However, if price weren't an issue, I still don't know if I could get past the Mustang. Don't they offer an AWD Ecoboost Fusion? *EDIT* Eh, they will, but it will only be the 2.0L Model. Making the Focus a better performer.
  10. Knoxville is a hike, but there is a guy down there Matt Ford, he advertises a fair bit. He specializes in VWs, sales and service, as well as high performance. Don't know his prices or his reputation, but he is a specialist. http://www.mfauto.com/about.html
  11. I know you said Focus or Mustang, but I am really digging on the new model Fusion. Just because of my bias, since that is what I am leaning towards for my family, I just have to throw that out there. However, the Mustang would be a definite contender for me, and the value will remain higher than the Focus.
  12. Wyatt Earp was a great movie. The only thing that sucked was that Tombstone was released around the same time. And Tombstone was better.
  13. I liked it. But hell, I liked Waterworld too. I am not a Kevin Costner fan though. He is kinda like Denzel Washington, put him in an emotionless role, and he will be awesome. That is why I like The Postman and Waterworld. That is why Man on Fire and Training Day were good. Not all actors can be a Johnny Depp that can do a multitude of roles, but some out there, just work. Take Paul Walker. Horrible actor, horrible. But put him in a fast car where he is supposed to be an out of place cat, and you have a massive franchise. The right actor, in the right role can do wonders.
  14. Inside the receiver, just under the ejection port. It is literally just above the magazine well. There is a rail that the bolt rides on. Make sure it is straight. If it is bent and drops down, which is possible, it will allow the locking lugs on the bolt to turn too soon and contact the front trunion. I had this issue with my AK. I have a feeling that is why I picked it up so cheap. It baffled me for over a year. I had no idea how to fix it. I tried new magazines, and almost resorted to filing the front trunion down. Then one day after a thorough tear down after a very upsetting range trip, I realized that the one rail piece was kinda bent. l straightened it, and I'll be damned, the rifle at another thousand rounds without a hiccup after that. So, check your bolt, it is contacting your front trunion. Make sure your rails are straight.
  15. Look up the Colt Thunderer and Lightning. They are double action pistols. Rumored to be the favored pistols of Billy the Kid.
  16. That is exactly the way I read it, and the way I saw it broken down.
  17. He was a hero to anyone who loves their car. He will be missed.
  18. I traded a pocket knife for an RG several years ago. Guy I worked with inherited the car from his father. The radio wouldn't work, so I checked the fusebox and found a pistol. He was scared to death of it, refused to have it in his car. I told him I would swap him my pocket knife for it. Wish I had that damn knife back.
  19. I had a NEF Pardner Pump. I liked it. Solid, smooth. Everything but the barrel interchanged with a Remington. I ran a lot of rounds through mine, high brass, low brass; taught several shooters how to shoot with it as well. It was a well regarded gun. I eventually rehomed it with an older couple looking for something to dissuade varmints from harassing their property.
  20. Let me know what you think of the stock. That is the exact one I have been eyeballing for when I decide to start pouring obscene amounts of money into my 10/22.
  21. Taking the topic into view the way you intended, you are correct. Those aren't good odds.
  22. My thoughts are with you. I hope everything comes out alright.
  23. I never wore a seatbelt.I was nineteen, put my face through a windshield, bit my lower lip off, knocked all my lower teeth out. Still wouldn't wear a seatbelt. I was twenty-one when my fiance ran a stop sign, and hit a car broadside, my brother in the back seat wasn't wearing his seatbelt either. I 'walked away' with all my top teeth missing, a broken nose, two broken ribs and a sheared hip. I was the lucky one of the injured that day. There were some that didn't walk way, or live. After that accident I have always worn a seatbelt. Even if it is a trip to the store. It has a long time since that last wreck, but I reckon I think about it more often than a man ought, and I know I am not the only one. It changed a lot of folks lives that day. Wearing a seatbelt isn't the least of it, but it is a big part of it. It might not have changed what happened to some folks in that wreck, but it would have prevented a good bit of the damage I took. That is enough for me, but means nothing for them. The one thing I do have a problem with though, being an amateur racer, is the folks that think a seatbelt is useless and dangerous. Forget about a wreck, sure, you are Stroker Ace and you ain't got a thing to worry about, not the soccer moms or the teens that are texting, you are a super driver. But what happens when you swerve to miss the soccer mom who swerved to miss the texting teen that swerved to miss the kid running out to catch the ball? You slide your too good to wear a seat belt ass right across your vinyl seat, off your brake pedal and into your passenger. You lose control and wreck, oh hell, I will even let you imagine that you walk away without a scratch, however, the logic of my seat time trying to learn how to drive faster and safer on a track tells me that a harness isn't just to keep you safe in the event of a crash, it is to keep your ass planted in that seat in the event of hard maneuvers. But then again, maybe I am wrong, and that one in a million wreck where you need to be thrown from the truck in order to survive is what you will have and you can praise the value of being free of the evil man who wanted you to wear a seatbelt. It is much like those that won't wear a helmet on a motorcycle, and yes, I ride. Why the hell would you not? Seriously? Then again, maybe I am just not as brave as the rest of you.
  24. While not a huge fan of the 1911, I am a fan of the RIA Tactical. I really dig what you have done there.
  25. It is a sad day. He was a pioneer who transcended racial barriers. He will be missed.
