  1. They threw him out years ago. They weren't the same. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
  2. That made me laugh harder than it should have.
  3. I think that was his point.
  4. That is all that really matters. Glad it worked out for you. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
  5. Leather will have to break in and wear. It will loosen up over time. Just like a baseball glove. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
  6. This was a large part of my logic.   And well, it worked/s for Duane Allman, Mark Knopfler and Billy Corgan, so it can't be all bad.
  7. I have met a dozen or so folks from here, and they were all great cats. That is a big part of the reason I still hang out, several years after leaving the state.
  8. I would imagine that Nashville would have a better selection, given the impact the city has on the music scene.   I know that Guitar Center normally has a large selection, and the one up here in Louisville has several lefty model Stratocaster, Telecaster and Les Paul models in stock.   The downside to being a lefty (which I am, but I play right handed) is that the selection is limited as it is. I can't think of that many models that actually come in a reverse orientation. Amazon might be a better friend in this aspect, though the hands of on of a brick and mortar is very nice.
  9. So today I finally had the intestinal fortitude to plug in at Guitar Center. This was a big step for me. I felt like a kid. I left the house with the intent to buy a decent guitar of the upper lower tier. I was a man on the mission. I narrowed it down to a Butterscotch Blonde Squier Telecaster Affinity with a nice maple fretboard and a nice smooth neck like butter, or this used Vintage Sunburst Epiphone Les Paul Standard. So after fondling a few guitars and deciding that it would be one of those two, I set down next to a Mustang amp similar to the one I had at home, made sure no one was looking and ran through the limited amount of skill I have. Swapped guitars and did it again, and again, and after a while I quit swapping. I started playing with the sound and took the victor to the counter. I was sad that my normal sales guy was off, as he is pretty groovy, and I got that typical snot nosed punk, but it was fine. I am not sure what won me over, but the Epiphone was the definite winner. I know that compared to a lot on here, I have no skill, but man, I am having fun with this. I really wish I had the patience when I started this journey twenty years ago, because I can only imagine how much better I would be now. Here is a picture of the group, with my daughter's guitars as well.
  10. Heirloom to me means a single action.   Stainless.   Since your father was into Rugers, you might as well pass that down.   Sounds like a nice Bowen worked Stainless Vaquero is in your future.       Well, I mean if you follow my advice.
  11. So my daughter and I are still going at it. She practices the guitar daily, she is frustrated because I keep her going over the same stuff for a week at a time before we move on to the next lesson.   I recently upgraded my Bullet to a full Tusq treatment, nut, saddles and trees, it sounds amazingly better, but I still get fret buzz even after setting it up and adjusting the neck. It isn't bad, but it still happens on the low E string for the first five frets. It is pretty annoying, and will be my next beast to conquer. Neither my higher end Squier (is there such a thing?) nor my Les Paul Special suffer from this problem.   I am currently learning some Dwight Yoakam, Guitars, Cadillacs being among my favorite songs.   While I am a metal head from way back who considers Metallica and Iron Maiden the greatest bands ever while being heavily into avant garde music such as Sleigh Bells, Purity Ring and Matt and Kim, I think I would have been happiest in my life playing in a Bakersfield band.   That is my inner peace.   I got the heathen a keyboard for Christmas, I can't keep her off them at the music store. Those and the drums, but we are currently suffering sanctions on importation of acoustic percussion instruments into the home.
  12. That is obviously a photoshop. The authorities have clearly stated that large cats are nonexistent in Tennessee.                                                                               Plus, it isn't black.
  13. I would go with a tablet over a television. You can get a Kindle for less than $50, if his phone can be used as a hotspot, or he buys a hotspot he might be looking at $100 total, with a monthly reoccurring fee of up to $50 for more than enough streaming to watch whatever he wants. Throw in a $10 a month Netflix, and while it might be semi expensive, the utility will be unsurpassed. And much better than trying to get signal with a set of rabbit ears deep in the woods. Speaking of, since they went all digital, wouldn't he be looking at a higher cost anyways? Many carriers offer free data for certain streaming providers, such as Netflix, meaning he could get a basic ~$20 plan and not pay for any of the data used for streaming Youtube or movies.   Now, if he is talking about a VCR (since we are talking old tech like TV anyways, ;) ) you are going higher out of pocket with a $200 television and a $100 media player, than you would with the above plan, you your aren't incurring data storage issues such as you would if you were going stone age with no internet.   If it were me, I would just get a mobile hotspot/phone enabled hotspot and a basic tablet.   Which is what I have done. It makes road trips so much easier for music (why use XM when you can stream iHeart or similar for free) or take DVDs for a mobile player when you can stream Netflix. The days of 'Are we there yet?' are nonexistent when she is watching movies in the backseat.   While some might see this as the lazy alternative, I fully embrace the digital age, I predict two generations will completely end physical media beyond a novelty or collector status. I do however prefer private storage methods over the cloud.
  14. I understand that.   Jacks aren't meant to hold weight. You jack it up, and you put the stands under it, then you remove tension on the jack. Thus only the stands are holding weight. You keep the jack in an approximate position, but it doesn't hold any weight.  You don't continue to use the jacks once it is on the stands. As you found out, that is asking for trouble.
  15. A jack is a jack, not a stand. I am glad you are alright, but the lesson here is to use tools properly. A jack is meant to lift weight, not hold it.   Or after getting to the second page, paying someone else to change your oil might be the lesson...
  16. I bought a Rough Rider convertible, shot a lot of bulk .22LR through it. Liked it so much I bought another.   I can spend an entire afternoon popping through a brick of ammo and enjoy it all.    It isn't the fanciest, or the most cleanly assembled, but it is as fun as any of them.   It is however my understanding (from sporadic internet chatter) that the full bore calibers are different than the rimfire.
  17. I got a tattoo of a scorpion on my collarbone many years ago directly as a tie to this fable.
  18. Bandit is over two now. Moeko is about ten, and Bongo, buried under them, is just a few months. They are all spoiled. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
  19. I am interested in what you find out. My mouth is worse than yours. I am leaning towards full pull and fake ones. It is embarrassing to talk about, but asking for help shows the courage. For the record I have six broken front teeth, and most of my molars are gone, or little more than remnants. I have no excuse. I make good money and have insurance. I am just too embarrassed at this point to even talk to a dentist. The pain is the worst part. It can immobilize you. But I still function daily and don't take anything more than an Aleve a day. I make the "toothless redneck" joke a lot. But it isn't a joke. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
  20. My daughter isn't allowed to have toy guns at home. She has real guns, and has been shooting since she was four. She has asked for toy guns, and I explain to her that she can't have them as I want her to respect real firearms and treat them properly. That seemed to be the best way. She enjoys shooting and has shot many different guns over the last several years. As I carry, I never wanted to worry about how she would react to my gun, such as thinking it is a toy. 21. Congrats, my daughter changed my life in every way for the better.
  22. It took me by complete surprise honestly. I think I might go buy that Jackson Dinky I have had my eye on to celebrate. My wife is even encouraging it. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
  23. 90 days are over with. I got a 10% raise on Friday.   I was rather stoked.   We are hitting all of our growth targets as previously established. In addition I have cut the percentage of error from 3% to less than 1% on all entered work orders.                     And I have also become the go to guy for pricing guns. Nearly everyone in the company  is an outdoorsman. And apparently last year, they gave a rifle away at the Christmas party.    So I am pretty confident that I am where I belong. I am in a private company where I can talk one on one with the owner, who I report directly to, I get constant confirmation that I am doing a good job, and everyone else enjoys the same hobbies as I do.   Oh, and I am making more than I was at DPSG, by a large percentage.
  24. Wasn't 40S&W specifically designed for women who couldn't handle 10mm? That seems to be the history I remember of the round... Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
  25. How do they know the gun was stolen? Seems to me, if it were reported stolen, they would know who it was stolen from. If it wasn't reported stolen, the rightful owner may have stored it in the locker, and then defaulted on it. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk
