They had a small stock from what I saw. They had a lot of us backed up waiting on the background checks. I didn't get out till after 9. Sent from my lair with smoke and mirrors.

I like those Tech Sights, I was looking at Nodak Spud, they offer something very similar.

So after examining my collection and situation thoroughly, it occurred to me that something was missing. I spend my time punching holes in vicious paper. I am not a hunter, not a competitive shooter. However, I like collecting firearms and shooting them. I own a Remington Nylon 66, well, more correctly, my wife owns and my mother now possesses a Nylon 66. Which left me with only my Daughter's Iver Johnson Lil'Champ (my first rifle from thirty years ago) as a rimfire long gun. I find myself drawn to spending a large chunk of my range time shooting rimfire, due to the price. So after a box or two of 9mm through my Glock, a couple of magazines through my AK, a box of shells through my shotgun and a couple rounds through my M44, I will spend the next several hours tossing shotshells out a handful of yards and dancing them till I have shot up a brick of bulk with my Heritage Rough Rider. So the addiction to rimfire is there, and the cost is much more pleasant than even cheap 9mm. But until today, I didn't have a full size long gun to shoot any .22LR out of. Thanks to Academy opening, that has been resolved. I picked up a Ruger 10/22 Carbine for under two bills, the same price that Wal-Mart carries them for, so I figured I couldn't do any better buying new. Now, I am hit with the dilemma of what I want to do with it. Obviously I am going to shoot the snot out of it in it's stock configuration, I have a tip-off scope somewhere around here that will find it's way on the top of it I am sure. The question I have now, what 'must haves' are there for a 10/22? I have no desire to create a tactical gun out of it, so I don't see any fancy tactical stocks in it's future. Are Ruger factory magazines the best bang for the buck? I wanted to grab some BX-25s while I was there, but they didn't carry them. What is the logical range of a .22LR round? I typically never shoot them past 10-15yds, but would it be reasonable to make decent groups at 100yds?

It is a rather busy day for them, some of the prices are different from their website, and the ammo is hit or miss. I did pick up a 10/22 for a price I liked. Sent from my lair with smoke and mirrors.

They make commercial 45-70 Cowboy loads, these are blackpowder loads. Midway has them. Based on the price, now would be a great time to start reloading.
-
I guess I will be swinging by after I drop the daughter off for school. See if there is anything that I just have to have.

I was just a wee bit older than that when I was handed down my Marlin 1894 in .357Mag. I could handle it fine. I was a bit undersized back then, I couldn't handle our 12ga Coach Gun yet, but I was vicious with my .410 single shot. I am trying to remember back then, but around that age I had a Remington Nylon 66, the Marlin I mentioned and my .410, I am pretty sure I was shooting my uncle's SKS around then too. If she can find him a .357Mag lever action, I think that would be great. My cousin had a .30-30, but he was larger than I was at that age. Hell, he still in, and I am not a runt anymore. The Rossi Circuit Judge might be something to look into as well, as it can shoot .45 Long Colt and .410, giving him a lot of versatility hunting. At close ranges, .357Mag or .45 Long Colt would be fine for deer, especially with some of Hornady's Leverevolution.

Emily Gets Her Gun - Washington Times Article
Murgatroy replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Good read, it is a shame the hurdles one must go through in our nation's capital to practice 'inalienable rights.' I wonder where all the criminals not wearing suits get their firearms? -

I am not sure I cared for this episode. We have resolved nothing, we have done nothing but solidified our beliefs from the last two episode.

Correct load for steal 1858 Remington 44 cal clone

I never put more than 30gr in my Remington replica. 55gr is way to much. -
Look at what it going in in Greece right now, Russia twenty years ago, some would say the Great Depression here in the US. The Spanish Civil war of last century, what is going on in Egypt or Libya right now. On a smaller scale, Katrina, the LA Riots, etc... There are lots of examples of SHTF. It doesn't necessarily mean that the blue helmets are running amok on our streets, but just a simple break down of society, even for the short term. One could use the example of the Blizzard of `93, or any snow scare in East Tennessee as an example of SHTF.

I don't read as much as I used too, but I recently picked up a handful of Jerry Ahern's Survivalis novels, I think seven or so of them, and reread them. I don't have the time to devote like I used to, and I enjoy short books, where I don't have to devote more than a few hours.

This. You can get a Ruger 10/22 nearly anywhere for less than $200. Even Wal-Mart. For the money, and the options, nothing will beat a Ruger 10/22 for a rimfire rifle. Just my opinion.

I think the show left it in a moral grey area. It was done in such a way as to be ambiguous, to those that dislike Shane, he was seen as a cold blooded killer, to those that think he is a strong type, he was seen as a hero for getting the medical supplies for Carl. I think it was done as much to spark discussions such as this, as it was a plot device. Given the situation as it was portrayed, they still had a hike to the truck, but I think they were close enough that they both could have make it, but again, this observation was made from my couch, not the fictional school parking lot watching the two characters run. I think Shane wasted as much time fighting and making his escape as they would have lost with the two limping on together. After all, after Carl's shooting, Otis and Shane arrived at the house together, after Rick, who was carrying Carl. Given Otis' proclamation of guilt and sorrow after shooting Carl, why did Shane pace him? For security purposes? Pathfinding, or was Shane a slow runner/Otis a faster runner than appearances? I think the scene was done more for shock value. A television show of this nature, the zombie film genre in general, is for a social commentary, and having the ability to have your voice heard by millions, and then dissected by just as many for purposes and goals, you should use it for something more than shock and awe.

This. No words of bravado, but come between me and mine, and you will discover what evil man is capable of.
-
I used to live off of Steekee Road many many moons ago.
-
That was a hard decision. I want to hate Shane for it, but I can't. I don't like the way he handled it, and I think there was still time. But I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't think about it at that point. Maybe the difference lies in thinking and doing.

Kind of what I am feeling here, I am confused. If your friend's address really was Koon Lane, I don't get it. I have been to Norris Police station a several times now to fill out the forms and for day passes for friends. I have always dealt with the blonde officer, he is a nice guy and does have a sense of humor.

Of all the times I have been up there, I have yet to meet any of the regulars from the site. I have met a lot of friendly folks, a couple of not so friendly folks, and a gaggle of teenagers being stupid, but I have yet to meet any regular posters. Sadly I have to work tomorrow, or I would go up.
