  1. I am not worried about feeling overpressured. I have been a car guy since before I could ride a bike. My bull**** meter is pretty good. Plus, even if someone believes in throwing money at any and all problems, they still may have an answer. The gear thing is something that I would have to learn about to be sure. Right now I have a couple of pistol mag pouches, but that is it. To date, any and all shooting I have done has been at a range style session, if not always at a range. I have a bag that I carry all my goodies in, and an ammo can that carries my recommended daily allowance of ammunition. I see a bunch of you guys talking about belts, and some about vests, which is more popular? I am a normal sized guy, fit I guess would be fine, but the idea of carrying several loaded magazines for rifle and pistol (and shotgun if I go mag fed) seems to be a lot of pressure on a belt. Especially if I intend to carry my pistol on there as well. Is a vest considered bad form? Or is it just too cumbersome? I should have my first AR finished in a few weeks, which is probably what I will be using for a rifle (I have an AK if I have to push it though) and my carry is a Glock 19. I figure those will be fine for starting. The shotgun is where I lack. I have a coach gun that I am pretty sure I could run well for a coach gun, but I am pretty sure it would be abysmal compared to anyone that actually knew what they were doing. How well do pumps stack up? Or does it have to be an automatic to be competitive? I am not looking to be the fastest and the best out the gate, but I don't want to have to buy four guns over the course of a year to be competitive. If a pump gun will last me a year or so if I get heavy and then I can upgrade to an semi-auto that might make my wallet feel better. I don't mind buying a new gun, my wife might, but she will get over it. I just don't want to have to buy several new guns. And for the record, nothing I have read so far has made me scared of trying this out.
  2. So you can't text as a passenger?
  3. I don't think it is out yet, but I like the idea of it. This and Ruger's Scout Rifle are on my short list of bolt actions.
  4. I can't think of anything I need. Lots of wants, but none that outweigh any others. I got the wife what I know she wants, then spent two entire days chasing ghosts and stretching truths to make her think that I got her something else. For the daughter we got her a bicycle, this will be her first. It comes with all the trimmings. I suspect that my wife got me something gun related, I haven't dropped any hints, and haven't played her game at all this year. This is killing her, but at least she will win this way. Every year in the past I guess what she bought me within seconds of the purchase being made. This year I am been purposely oblivious. She tells me at least once a day "Don't you want to know, you are going to LOVE it!" I do have a feeling that with my purchase (which was supported) of the two AR lowers, that it might be AR related. But I need to stop now, or I might piece it together.
  5. I feed my Glock +P+. It likes it.
  6. I transferred two lowers yesterday around 11am and didn't have any issues. Took about ten minutes.
  7. I do not like the sound of this. At all.
  8. Sweet. I may head out there tomorrow, I haven't made my mind up yet, Christmas has made me broke.
  9. We don't ban Santa, but we don't embrace him the way a lot of modern consumerism devout do. We do a strict one gift rule in our home. This year our daughter is getting a bicycle, and the things that go with it. My wife and I do the same. The way we play Santa is that she tells him what she wants, and he tells us.
  10. Kinda wish I was experienced with these things, I picked them both up today. They sure do look pretty. I checked all the threads, and they were clean, no bent or broken tabs. Both lowers are identical other than the markings, one is pictogram, the other is safe/fire. I am excited to get get started on them.
  11. That is the only complaint that I have been able to find, and I have read from them that they now test fire each upper before shipping to ensure that doesn't happen again.
  12. That was the basic opinion that I was gathering from my searches. Granted, I don't have the hands on experience, but I have spent over 40 hours just researching these builds to ensure that I am not throwing money away. From everything I have gathered, PSA is twice the product at half the price, just as BCM was a few years ago.
  13. I understand that BCM is one of the better makers, but PSA is gaining a good reputation as well, do you have anything other than opinion to back this statement up? I am not trying to be confrontational, I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row as the OP and I are in the same boat and following each other's posts.
  14. I would have to throw my vote in for the bank robbery scene in Heat as well.
  15. Two veterans came in to the office today for a walk-in purchase. I forced my cashier to give them the employee discount and thanked both of them for their service. Made me feel good.
  16. The feeling of community and closeness offered by the church is one of the major selling points. I was raised Mormon, my wife, Catholic. Neither of us have attended church since highschool. Now that our daughter is in school, we have been seriously discussing going back to church. When I asked her what was more important, the message or the community, she answered the community. We will probably be heading to an LDS Sacrament Meeting in the near future. Churches offer structure, a sense of help and community, for those that need and those that give. It creates life long friends, and as importantly as religion, it teaches morals. I am not an atheist, however I am not a devoutly faithful person either. There are many more things offered by being a regular member of a church, than just the promise of heaven. A regular education only teaches you how to add, how to read, how the states got their shapes, but an education from religion teaches you more of society and why we are the way we are. No single thing has shaped humanity more than religion, regardless of the faith. If through this endeavor my daughter, my wife, or even myself can discover faith and peace, that is even more powerful. However more importantly to me, is the ability to show kindness in this life.
  17. My kindergartener is learning the history of the flag currently. I have been impressed with her teacher so far.
  18. It was anticlimactic. I will give it that. Probably the weakest finale SOA has had yet. But hey, a few more commercials and they could have stretched it to three hours. Next season will be interesting.
  19. I saw that twist coming. Interesting.
  20. The only issue I have with CAS is the initial cost to get started, the costumes, etc... How would my tattoos and earrings work with that?
  21. That is beyond disgusting.
  22. I am pretty certain that one of my two lowers will evolve into a dedicated .22LR AR, is there anything other than the upper (and mags) that I need to worry about? I think I will grab the CMMG upper that PSA has for $350 and feeds from BDM mags. I intend for it to mainly mimic the other rifle I am building.

    Bad news

At least you can part friends. Hopefully. Having seen all of my family go through this, and nearly going through it myself, it sucks. Being able to part peacefully is a blessing.
  24. Thanks guys. I think I might be most interested in moving stuff, either 3 Gun or IDPA, I guess it is time to start researching. I have a good pistol, am building a couple of good rifles (and have a few) but I guess I am lacking in the shotgun department as I just sold my pump. I have a coach gun, but I doubt that would be decent. I suppose I am looking for something with real world skills, I doubt I would ever be in a scenario where I had a chance to go for a bullseye while defending me and mine. I guess I will start my google-fu and head out to ORSA in the near future, do I need to be a member to participate, or is just showing up cold alright?
  25. I don't think it will be since it is "To Be Part 2." I would guess just an hour.
