trading handguns without a transfer
jgrauman replied to Mike.357's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
i don't care what happens to them, i'm worried about me. no that's not news to me. do criminals come in to your store and lie on your forms, i doubt you get many of them if any. if they are expecting a backyard deal and you present them with an official form, they will be wary to sign it. if they lie and do then i don't care. i'm not going to punish them, i'm going to give it to my lawyer when the cops come wanting to know where the gun is (as i already stated) i'm covering my ass as best i can, undocumented transfers this day in age are ABSOLUTELY STUPID. if you want to do them, go for it. as for the form you use if you are going to, this is a great one. edited to add: yes i will keep it for the next 20 years, more than likely till the day i die, it's with all my other records including birth certificate. -

yes. i will not willingly sell a gun to a criminal, and most criminals would be wary of filling out this form. i would gladly have you tell me to F off and go home at night "feeling good" that i didn't just sell my weapon to somebody who meant to do harm with it -

in this line of argument your BOS is a POS as well. neither is legally binding for the transfer of a gun. -

ah yes, the old "hand written receipt." try using that in court to prove the date of a transaction, the person it was sold too and what was sold. hand written tax returns work well also, use them to apply for loans. -

every gun i've ever bought i've had to fill out this form. Why shouldn't I have someone else do it. So what if it's not legally binding, so what if it's not required by law (neither is a BOS). If a cop ever comes knocking on my door about my .38 i have that exact form with the info on where it is. It was conveniently provided by tungsten, and it's the same form the federal government uses. as far as the form asking insulting information, i'm sure you were asked WAY more insulting info during you FFL licensing (and you answered that). Sure it doesn't offer anymore protection for either buyer or seller, but a BOS is still a paper trail just as this is. Sign this, sign a BOS, don't sign anything. if a previously owned gun is ever used in a crime and i'm a suspect because of it, i'd rather my lawyer have this form than a BOS or nothing at all. "your honor, my client is a responsible gun owner who goes the extra mile requiring all of his buyers to fill out a federal form which is not even required by law." i find it funny that the argument against this form is coming from an FFL dealer who has jumped through all the hoops the government holds up. -
what do you mean? not all .40sw are unsupported. a lot of .45's don't even have a fully supported chamber

that high heat spray paint works well also, just spray a little on a rag and dab it in, last longer than the crayon. but my red crayon on my xd service has lasted almost a year and still looks good sooo... i guess it's all up to the user:koolaid:

yes it can be in a brief case, your car, your hat, your sock, a backpack, a computer bag, a secret compartment in your shoe... there are some pretty cool packs out there that offer compartments, for instance http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme%20gear/packs%20main/jumbo_versipack.htm this is one of my favorites and if any of you want to get it for me for christmas i'll send you my address! you can get any of their packs and then get the holster seperatly or don't get the hoslter at all and sew in one of your old ones that you dont use anymore.

CCing when posting is not as TN says it should be.
jgrauman replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
yes you are correct. there's a thread around here that has the exact wording that must be posted in order for it to be valid, in that thread the attorney general of TN discusses the validity of the signs and his interpretation of the law. -
evidently i dont' have enough time on my hands, i've been a member as long as both of you! i suppose i just don't have as much to say, although i'm glad that tungsten posts just as much, if not more, than everybody else. it's nice to have an owner put as much time in to their forum as you have dave! thanks for this!

we can always just start a thread for you guys to battle back and forth on for the top poster.... like this one!

had this kid done something all of us would be reading "and two weeks ago officers noticed the kid was wearing body armor and didn't question him." we'd all be saying, "what the hell, he comes to school wearing body armor and they don't even question him, had they, they might have found out what he was planning." come on people, let's put this in perspective, there's a difference between expelling a kid for writting something in a blog, speaking out in class and rocking body armor to class and act suspicous when questioned by officers. columbine is examined by every SWAT unit in america as a huge mistake that must be learned from. the intelligence level of the "kneejurkers" is not very high (IMHO) and they do tend to violate a lot of individual rights, but in this case (again IMHO) i'm glad they stopped the kid. i'd rather be having this discussion about his rights being violated (which can be rectified with a lawsuit and some cash, even though it was still wrong) rather than having a RTKBA discussion of allowing teachers to carry because another student killed a bunch of kids.

i hear ya about the search, but at our high school they could search anything, anytime they wanted. we had random searches of our lockers, backpacks, and parking lots. if a drug dog found your car to be suspicous, they called you out of class and you opened up your car for them.

had a buddy growing up that had a newspaper route from the time he was 13, had saved over $10k and paid cash for his first car by the time he was 18.

Newberry was arrested on the school weapon charge, related to the spray

then you have to have your HCP. you can't carry off your property without it.

do you let others know you carry?
jgrauman replied to jgrauman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
i hope my opinion didn't get lost somewhere in here. my original point was not that i cared if people knew or noticed, i don't go around making a POINT to let people know. "hey, i carry a gun." i don't think ANYBODY should have that attitude, whether you are an open carrier, CC carrier, instructor, cop... i don't advertise my gun even when i'm open carrying. i dont' carry to be "cool" or to "save the day." i carry to protect myself and those that i love. that's all my OP was talking about, those that advertise their HCP. -

jgrauman replied to jgrauman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
i suppose you are right in some instances. but, for the most part the attitude that follows from these few is not the attitude of someone that i want representing the responsible gun owners of TN. i used to go out with my neighbor and when she ordered beer she would give her HCP, she would say "i love the look the servers get when they see that." -
not sure about this at UT, but when i attended ETSU our campus was dry. I was there for the last two years of football and they instituted a break in the dry campus rule for a section of the dome parking lot. the lot enterances were tapped off and you could just drive in and drink. we brought a keg to one of them. there were no cops asking for ids, or any cops for that matter, any thing that went on inside the tape was pretty much un monitored. maybe UT has something in their by laws about dry campus on game day?
