Those holes around the bottom edge of the HVAC are supposed to be there. They let water out and air flow in. Yes, critters can get through those holes and that's fine. At the rear of the unit closest to the house where the return and main trunk connect, that lower edge should be solid with no holes. Small critters can get around underneath the unit, but there shouldn't be a passage for them to exit to the rear of the unit towards the house. On the subfloor, I wouldn't glue the panels you make, no matter what they're made of. You want to retain easy access to those plumbing fittings if possible. Sheet metal would be fine if you have that laying around. Plywood is easier to work with to me, but YMMV. All you need is any kind of solid material that's easy to attach with screws.

What you get is completely random. AIUI, US Army armorers would receive 1911s in and separate the slides from the frames. Each was inspected, repaired, refinished, etc. as-needed. then on the end of the process a slide was grabbed out of the "ready" bin and slapped on a frame out of the other "ready" bin. Odds are extremely high it will be a mix-master gun. Getting matching manufacturer on the frame and slide happens like bubba's Remington Rand above, but my last one from Round 3 didn't match. These guns will also usually have some later-era parts like a replacement barrel, grips, magazine, etc. and more often than not will have been refinished at least once. It's whatever that particular gun needed to make it serviceable again for the Army. The CMP isn't stupid. They know more about these guns than just about anyone and they're well aware of the value of rare guns. If a more valuable one like a Union Switch & Signal, Singer, or all-original gun from any manufacturer, etc. comes their way, they put those to the side and will auction them.

What Grayfox said on pricing. As for the process: When they open up the next round, they'll have downloadable forms on their site you have to fill out. One of them has to be notarized. Most banks do free notary service for their customers. If not, The UPS Store is reasonably priced. I think it's like $10 or something. You include copies of your ID/proof of citizenship (they have a list of acceptable docs) and proof of marskmanship (again, they have a list. An HCP is acceptable), and you have to be a member of a CMP-affiliated organization. The easiest is Garand Collectors Association https://thegca.org/. $35 for an annual membership and it's all done online. Mail all that in and wait. First you get an email with your random number (RNG). This really doesn't mean anything because you don't know how many they're processing. It's just an acknowledgement that they have your packet and you're in the queue. This took about 6 weeks from when I mailed in my packet, IIRC. The only value the RNG has is IF you know the number of someone else who got theirs and when they got their pistol. If you have that from two people, it can give you an idea of how quickly the CMP folks are going through the list. But it won't make the process go any faster or slower. Then one day out of the blue you'll get a phone call. Caller ID showed Anniston, AL and I was immediately excited. The CMP person will confirm your information, give you a quick rundown on your status and let you know which grades are available to purchase. You'll pick the one you want and give them a credit card number. They'll send you an email with details also. Unlike rifles that they can ship directly to you, the pistols must go through an FFL. You need to get your FFL to send an updated copy of their credentials with your name in the email/fax so The CMP knows who it's for, even if they've done transfers from The CMP before. After that it's like any other FFL transfer. You wait . . . Eventually you'll get an email from The CMP letting you know it's shipped and the tracking number. IIRC, this only took a few days after the phone call to get shipping info. This time will take a little longer because apparently I forgot to sign one of the forms so I had to mail in another copy of that form this week. Gotta give it time to get to Anniston and processed before my order goes to the warehouse. Timeline: I submitted my packet in early September, got my ID October 11th, and got my phone call this Tuesday, Jan 9th. About 4 months from submission to possession.

P.S. I would NOT foam at the tub openings. That will make it near impossible to get that plumbing undone if that's ever needed in the future. Basically you're making removable plywood access panels.

The duct opening is normal, maybe a bit larger than needed, but all foundation openings are bigger than the trunk lines going through them. You should NOT be seeing daylight through there. It should fit snug against both the wall and the HVAC and should be sealed with silicone. Check that the sides go down into the dirt so there's no way for critters to get in unless they tunnel under the metal shroud. If not, pack some soil up against the bottom and put some gravel over it to help minimize erosion. For the plumbing holes, take a piece of cardboard down there and cut a template for each side. Then transfer the pattern to a piece of plywood. A couple of screws up into the OSB above and a short 1x1 screwed into the joist to support the "inside" edge will do it. Run a bead of silicone or caulk around the edges and call it a day. Easy to remove if you or a plumber ever need access to those fittings in the future. Put some silicone around those copper pipes going through the OSB too.

I got a Service Grade Colt slide on a 1945 RR frame in round 3. I was happy when they opened Round 4 up for repeat offend....".buyers". I went with Service Grade this time too. Maybe I'll get an all original US&S or Singer that someone forgot to stash for the auctions

BUMP for a pretty guitar. That's some beautiful maple in that top. I'm pretty sure that's Lemon Burst color. I think Honey Burst had darkened edges. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Desert Burst and these things play great with a classic tone. With all the accessories thrown in, this is a nice setup for someone looking to pick up a good quality guitar without getting into stupid money. GLWS!

About the only benefit it serves now is to be the whipping boy to take the anti-gunners' heat while better organizations like GOA make actual progress.

In middle TN, try 89.3 WMOT (MTSU student radio). They play good roots, blues, bluegrass, and Americana music. I hear some good indie artists there. It's the only one I know of. Even Lightning 100 is mostly Millennial and Gen Z sadness music mixed in with former indies who made it big and got deals and now sound like everyone else.

Godzilla Minus One was a fun ride. It's in Japanese subtitled in English. It has a bit more of the nostalgic original Godzilla feel than the more recent movies, but without being totally 50s/60s campy Napoleon is a snooze fest If you've seen the first 2 Trolls movies, Trolls: Band Together is fun. Not as good as the first one, but way better than the second one. Silent Night sucks. Very predictable and unrealistic. Nothing at all like the super fun Violent Night from last year. If you haven't seen Violent Night with David Harbour....watch it! I'm glad I have the AMC subscription so I'm not paying more for these tickets . . . I plan to see Wonka, Poor Things, and Ferrari this weekend or next week.

Assuming they're all "normal" firearms then you just pack them up and bring them home. Those would be suppressors (aka "silencers"), full-auto guns, short barreled rifles, and short barreled shotguns. There are a few other oddball things too that would fall under "destructive devices" and the purview of the NFA rules. Those still need to go through a transfer plus a $200 tax stamp unless your benefactor had them in a trust and you and/or your siblings were named on the trust as trustees.

If you're not in a hurry and the Browning in Collierville doesn't work out (if it was in Nashville I'd have already bought that one ) , keep a watch on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, and estate sales (I use EstateSales.net for that one). You'll find quality name brand safes for way less than new. It may take a few weeks/months for one to show up that you like at a price you like in a location you like, but it will.
