  1. I wasn't disagreeing that it was terrorism. Look more closely at the last 3 words of my post. In context, the discussion was about deploying (or not) the military over domestic terrorism and Waco was mentioned. I was implying the rhetorical question "Why would the .gov deploy military assets against themselves?"
  2. Yeah. Nobody would want to break in to steal patchouli oil and stale granola.
  3. Since when was Waco a terrorist attack on the US?
  4. I don't even like having the dealership sticker on my cars.
  5. According to Lexis Nexis, 55-8-110 as quoted above is still valid. Maybe keep a printed laminated copy of 55-8-110 in your wallet or in a bag on your bike if you have one. https://www.lexisnexis.com/hottopics/tncode/
  6. If only it were that simple. I cancelled almost 2 weeks ago and still no refund from Atlas.
  7. Who knows....we may all get coolers on or around December 15th....
  8. August, September and October are usually our driest months. I don't know the right way to do a fall crop here, but if you're planning on any kind of regular rainfall right now through the next 6 weeks or so, you may be out of luck. http://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/nashville/tennessee/united-states/ustn0357
  9. My card company (USAA) stepped up. They have credited my account. If Atlas ever does a refund or actually ships the product in December, I'll square up with them. In the meantime, I'm good to go. USAA Rocks.
  10. Interesting article on some women starting small businesses to cater to fashion and/or holsters for the female shooter. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/does-this-gun-make-me-look-fat-firearms-spur-fashion-niche/
  11. I don't get it. What's so special about this? Isn't that how all of you hunt? I know that's how I do it.
  12. I think 10-Ring meant it as a joke. One I was just about to make myself when I realized he beat me to it. It's Tipton Co. so $500 sounds about right.
  13. Here's Virginia's. Very similar to the proposed TN one.
  14. Yep. Those oversized ones were used to demonstrate to trainees how the firearms worked. They started in WW2 and AFAIK were phased out of training during Vietnam. The cutaways allowed visibility, and the size allowed an instructor to teach multiple trainees at a time and made the finer parts easier to see. They're "functional" in that all of the parts move including the detachable magazines, but they don't actually fire ammunition. They're quite collectible and getting harder to find every year. I think some had plastic rounds so the trainee could see how the action cycled and stripped the next one off the top, but those may have been a later development like around the Vietnam era. IIRC, the metal parts are mostly (all?) aluminum. I have read that there was a huge wood and aluminum bayonet for the Garand training model, but I've never seen one.
  15. My wife's uncle died a few years ago and the family is finally starting to go through his old shop. We've come across some old ammo and black powder. The ammo is in various conditions. Some is in the factory box and looks fine. Some was just tossed loose in a drawer, tackle box, wrapped in a shop rag, coat pocket, etc and have varying levels of corrosion. Some 22LR, some pistol and rifle centerfire, and some 12ga. shells. Plus we found a few containers of black powder. I'd guess somewhere in the 5-10 lbs. range all in all. Unbeknownst to anyone else, he may have done some reloading as we found some RCBS dies, but have not yet found a press (lots more to go through) Given the storage conditions and the fact that stuff in factory boxes may actually be reloads, I wouldn't want to run any of it through my own guns and think the safest thing to do is to destroy it. We're talking about maybe 200-300 rounds of various calibers and 3 dozen or so 12ga. shells. Not exactly an arsenal. Any suggestions on the best way to get rid of this stuff, especially the BP? I have zero experience with BP and have only heard horror stories about people messing with it who don't know what they're doing. One or two of the BP containers appears to be factory sealed, but it's all at least 30 years old and stored in less than ideal conditions. Not wet, just a dirty uninsulated workshop.
  16. I'm still thinking about it. Not because of the content, but because I think a bright yellow tag may look godawful on my car.
  17. I called my card company and they started a dispute process. Normally that means I don't have to pay the amount while it's in dispute but since I already have, I'm not sure where that leaves me. No big deal either way. I was able to upload the emails for both the order and the cancellation (I printed them both to PDF files) to the card company's site under my account for their investigator to review. Now I guess I sit and wait. The attendant noted I cancelled on 8/30, so I suspect they'll let it sit for a few days into next week before really doing anything, but that's not my concern. I just wanted to make them aware of the situation more than anything else and have it on record that I didn't wait to tell them.
  18. It's crazy how actions taken by a company can hurt them so badly. His site went down for a bit this week, then came back up. In and of itself not a big deal. He pulled his phone number and other stuff from his page, and the Atlas Facebook page is now hidden. I'm pretty sure that was because he was being overwhelmed by Rokslide group buyers. But doing so just made the problem worse. Honestly, if he hadn't started to digitally disappear and I was able to call him and get the story straight from him, I probably would have let the order stand. But by trying to save himself some annoying phone calls, it leaves me wondering if he's going out of business. I do want the coolers and waiting until December isn't a big deal to me, but so much of this has been feeling rinky-dink this week that I just don't know if he'll actually be in business by then. If I could just talk to the guy (made impossible by him) I would have kept the order. But since that's not possible, this is where we are. I messaged Atlas through their site early this morning asking for an approx. date for the refund to process. No reply yet, so I called my CC company to put the transaction into dispute. We'll see where it goes from here. I know it has only been a couple of days but it's clearly not an automated process via Shopify so I wanted to go ahead and put my CC company on notice. Hopefully the refund will process next week. Once I get this all settled, I may try RTIC when they get their backorders caught up. They seem to be still running a few weeks behind but appear to be making headway. They're in Houston too. Wouldn't that be a hoot if all of these Texas companies are getting their products from the same factory in China and are all waiting on the same ships to arrive.
  19. Minivan? You HAVE to trick it out.
  20. The 2017 TRD Sport is available with the long bed, V6, and manual, but only in the Access Cab not the Crew Cab. The single cab is gone now.
  21. Several Tacoma models above the base model get the manual as a choice.
  22. Plus the Tacoma and the new Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. Those twins from GM are nothing like their 1st gen versions. There's certainly no shortage of good choices in the small truck market right now. If only Nissan would release a new Frontier....
  23. I wouldn't be caught dead in a 1st gen. That thing's just ugly. But the new 2017 is a complete redesign, including a larger bed and they got rid of those butt ugly buttresses. It looks a lot more like a Pilot with the back chopped off now. It doesn't have the chops of a full size work truck, or the off road abilities of a Toyota Taco, or the performance of a street truck, but if you need a vehicle with road manners and good mileage that can occasionally haul some stuff (but not really heavy stuff) and don't mind some of the weird things Honda always does that nobody but them seems to understand, it's worth a look.
  24. If you want one that goes bang, you won't go wrong with either. Beauty is subjective, but I think (and I think many agree) S&Ws are much better looking.
