Flying to Florida and taking a handgun
monkeylizard replied to jgradyc's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yes, you can. It just has to be stored in either an ammo box or the manufacturer's box and in checked baggage. That box can then be kept in the same locked container as the firearm, but doesn't have to be. It looks like maybe it could also be kept loaded into a magazine as long as the magazine is not in the firearm, but I'm not certain of that. I've always just unloaded everything and kept it separate. See #8 about small arms ammo: http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/retrieveECFR?gp=&SID=0e643a4dc787c2bebb8e96698e046b29&mc=true&n=pt49.2.175&r=PART&ty=HTML - se49.2.175_110#se49.2.175_110 Don't use a TSA lock on your gun case/lockbox. Only you should have the key or combination. -
I don't get it. Who's the guy getting whacked?

Just like with Terminus, Carol will have to ride in and save the day.

It's not so much about whether or not a person can actually squeeze one off with a long or heavy trigger. It's about being able to do so accurately. When the trigger finger pulls inwards, the rest of the hand muscles naturally squeeze in, exerting more force on the firearm. Specifically it's increasing torque in the hand's grip and the wrist, which is why most folks drop rounds low and right on a heavy/long trigger (or low and left if they're left handed). It takes practice to work that natural tendency out of a grip and ONLY move the muscles controlling the trigger finger. The heavier/longer the trigger is, the more likely those other hand/finger muscles are to join in the fight to do the work of the lone finger. With the adrenalin pumping, accuracy is hard enough. A very long/heavy trigger just adds to the difficulty. Of course a hair trigger eliminates that, but creates its own danger of making it too easy to touch off a round prematurely. The trick is finding the balance. To your point though, AIUI the distances of most self-defense shootings are pretty dang short. Not far enough that the extra torque on the grip from a long/heavy trigger would make a lot of difference. I'm not an expert though so my opinion is worth what you paid for it.

It's anticipatory panic. If Hildebeast wins, there will be attacks on our sport and everyone knows it. Nobody knows exactly what form it will take, but we all know it would be arriving under her watch. It's faux panic in the sense that nothing is currently becoming law to create restrictions. But it's real panic because the likelihood of that happening is increasing.

Blatant self-promotion without paying for a Benefactor account aside....shipping is still crazy high on what I just spec'd out. 1K rds of Wolf 7.62x39 at 218.50 is inline with other shops, maybe a couple of bucks cheaper. Then comes the $60.54 shipping charge. Even SGAmmo isn't that high. ETA: In case anyone's wondering why it looks like I dredged up this old thread, I didn't. There was a post just before mine from someone at Munire promoting themselves (w/o TGO Vendor status) and about how great their prices are an how they've got the best shipping rates ever, or something like that. The post was removed. What you see above from me is my response to that now-deleted post. -
I expect that one to go north of $2000 by the end, even with its significant wear marks. Most of the ammo is already bid up to the normal prices, higher in a few cases. Same with most of the magazines. 5 PMags for $60? I see specials every week or so for <$10/ea. Still, there are a few guns on there that might stay low enough to be considered a deal. I'll keep an eye on it for sure.

If it's like their last one, I expect to see HiPoints going for Colt Python prices by the end. The overall quality looks better this time.

Given the overall weakness of the division, the Titans have a decent chance of making the playoffs. They'll lose in week 1 if they do, but it's better than previous seasons. Personally, I stand by my 5-11 prediction and 3rd place in the division. The Colts may be struggling, but they'll be up for the Titans matchups. Once Brock O starts getting in sync with his offense at Houston, they'll be putting up some serious points, but their defense without J.J. Watt will be a joke the rest of the season. The Titans will probably beat the Browns who had to sub in a WR as QB for their final play after Clipboard Jesus popped his knee. I think their only 3 remaining wins will be Cleveland, one of the two Jax games, and pick any other random game (probably Chiefs, Texans, or one of the Colts games). Unfortunately, 5-11 will probably be good enough for Mularkey to keep his job for another season.

One (of several) reasons for that is the range closure on Saturdays for matches during the not-sucky-weather months. I get that one of the missions of the club is to promote the shooting sports through matches, and I support that, but that's not something that interests me right now. Saturdays are often the only days I have the time to shoot and it's closed unless I want to compete, which I don't. I only get out there a few times a year because of that. It would be great if the new range could accommodate most of, or at least some of, the matches without having to shut the whole thing down.

Which 2 did they fit? The more times I've tried to find a reasonable contractor, the more I think I'll just stick with the first 2 and suck it up. It's like outdoor gear. It can be light, cheap, or good. Pick 2.

I'd say it's similar to slightly higher quality than Academy, but with REI prices. Kind of like Bass Pro. Just like Bass Pro, the prices on most guns are just stupid.

It might be wide open. Many ranges restrict membership levels intentionally so that they don't have 500 people showing up on Saturday morning to use 20 lanes. Strategic Edge caps their numbers and it's currently closed to new members. The relocating will certainly give the club more flexibility, but I hope they don't throw the limits completely out the window. I'm renewing for 2017, but I may have to drop that for 2018 and open a spot for someone else depending on where they relocate. It's already an hour drive each way for me and I don't get there as often as I'd like. If they end up in some place like Westmoreland or Trousdale Co., I just can't see that happening for me.

There's an easy solution to that. Stop eating salads.
