  1. My letter to Santa includes a Fender Mustang 1. Seems like the sweet spot for me in price, features, and size. It also connects via USB for the FUSE software so I can add a couple of additional sounds if I'm not totally satisfied with the presets. If I really like playing guitar a lot, I'm sure I can pick up something higher end later. Thanks for the tips, everyone.
  2. Nah...nothing to worry about. There's a sign that says "Please Do Not Touch", so you know....it's safe and all.
  3. Bubba, you'd easily hear me across the neighborhoods if I had that.
  4. I stopped in at Corner Music today. Larry and Ben were super helpful. They showed me some amps and it's probably down to the Fender Mustang 1, Roland Micro Cube, or Yamaha THR5. The Mustang 1 is the cheapest, and seemed to have enough effects for me as a beginner. I liked the easier-to-use preset effects than what the others have. The Yamaha THR5 is the most expensive, but is also the smallest and most portable. I don't really need portable, but the small size is nice for storage. It has USB connectivity to PC, which sounds cool, but I don't know if I would ever use such a feature. It would let me play audio from my iPhone through it though which might be nice. It wasn't as loud as the other 2, but plenty loud for my needs. The Micro Cube falls smack in the middle in both price and size, and seemed about as loud as the Mustang, with similar controls to the THR5. The Mustang is only slightly over the $100 price, but the THR5 is double that. Seems like a little overkill for my first amp and a beginner. Or should I start with something cheaper like the Line 6 which TGODavid linked to above? What do you guys think?
  5. I always heard that if a musician couldn't keep time, you gave him two sticks and called him a "drummer". If he still couldn't keep time, you took one stick away and called him a "conductor".
  6. I have the 92FS and like it a lot. I think it's one of the nicest looking handguns, certainly of the modern era. It's too big and heavy for me to carry it comfortably, so it's a nightstand/range gun, but It's so comfortable to shoot. I stuck some Hogues on it and even though it uglies it up a little, my wife likes them...and she hates shooting handguns. If it has to wear a frumpy set of grips to keep her shooting, so be it.
  7. [RussianAccent] In Russia, is only dog bite. Rub snow on hand. Is good! Vodka kill rabies. Come! We drink! [/RussianAccent]
  8. "In Russia, is lovely summer day!"
  9. Less than $400 That included the hard case, strap, and cable. I'm pretty excited about this. Christmas came early.
  10. I'm not really certain what style I want to learn to play. Probably something in the blues'ier category.Maybe some 50s and 60s rock sounds too, like Chuck Berry, or some rockabilly like Carl Perkins. I'd like to learn some tunes from the likes of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings too. Of the newer artists, I'm really digging the sound from Justin Johnson on Youtube and I like Josh Ritter's Sermon On The Rocks album, especially the guitar sound on "Getting Ready to Get Down" and "Young Moses". I'm not planning on metal or hard rock. For now, I'd be happy to play Mary had a Little Lamb. I'm a true beginner. My musical education stopped at "Music class" in elementary school. I never even had to learn the recorder. I think I had a tambourine once in a school play and played a mean kazoo as a kid. Does that count?
  11. I've been wanting to pick up guitar for a while now, and finally made the leap. We had a fundraiser auction at work today and a new Fender American Standard Stratocaster (made in USA, not Mexico) was in the mix. It's a 60th Anniversary model in Mystic Aztec Gold with Fender Custom Shop Fat '50s on all 3 pickups (whatever that means). I think it looks super retro-cool. I managed to snag it for less than $400, which I think was a phenomenal price, especially compared to what I see them listed for online. It's this one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender/Limited-Edition-American-Standard-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar-Mystic-Aztec-Gold-Maple-Fingerboard-1409670722552.gc So I have the axe, hard case, strap, and cable. I need a beginner amp. Nothing too crazy loud. Probably 10-15w would do it for my purposes. No particular budget in mind. I see plenty in the $50-$100 range which would be just fine. I don't mind going a bit higher if it means I get a lot more, but I'm not looking for pro-grade gear here. Any suggestions? I'm finding plenty of YouTube videos to get me started playing, so I'll start there, and maybe check out the Yousician app. I've already discovered the free guitar tuning apps for smartphone and tablets, so that saves me a few bucks on not needing to buy a tuner. Any other beginner advice?
  12. I generally use gunbroker as guide. If you can find someone selling one like you have, you'll see what they're asking. Then watch to see if it actually sells at that price.
  13. I remember Jack. I have a couple of friends with MS. It's a horrible disease. I hope he can find something that works for him.
  14. Thanks. Nothing there that I'm getting up early to go get. Maybe Lowes will have something good. I got a great buy on a Mini Draco at Prepper Gun Shop last year. I'll keep my eye on them and PSA.
  15. I just saw that Lowes will unveil theirs on Saturday at 10pm eastern during a Facebook Live event. Expect it to be on sites like BFAds.net shortly after that. HD's is expected to be released Wednesday, the 23rd.
  16. What's a gas station? https://www.startyoshi.com/
  17. Lowes has HD beat hands-down on their Black Friday process. HD keeps their ad secret and sends threatening legal messages to sites like BFAds.net to keep them from posting it. That makes it hard to plan a Friday morning shopping excursion because I have to reconfigure my approach if HD has something I really really want. Then you have to be in store or online at Oh-No-Its-Too-Early-o-Clock. Good luck getting the good stuff without getting in line well before sunrise if your HD is busy at all*. Lowes releases their ad early and then opens up the deals to online shopping all day Thanksgiving Day. I shop online Thursday at Lowes.com then show up at any time on Friday to pick up my order. I expect the Lowes ad to be on BFAds.net any day now. Fortunately, I've managed to get all the shopvacs and 4'-5' ladders I'll ever need. Those are the perennial door busters that go fast at both HD and Lowes. *My parents used to live in Jasper, AL. I got up early on a Black Friday to hit HD and the only people there when it opened were the workers and a couple of old guys drinking coffee picking up some lumber for a weekend project. The next year I knew better than to get up too early. They still had plenty of everything by 10am. I don't miss driving down there for the holidays, but I do miss that lack of a crowd on Black Friday.
  18. There's the obvious one in Nashville - Tennessee State Prison https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_State_Prison
  19. ^^^ This. Must be at an FFL in the buyer's state.
  20. As stated above, interstate handgun transfers must pass through an FFL in the buyer's state. There isn't an exception for family members. The exception is an inheritance. An interstate inheritance of firearms does not have to pass through an FFL in either the deceased of recipient's state (NFA items have a Form 5 tax-free transfer in this case). ETA: I don't see why ya'll couldn't meet here in TN, have the buyer look it over, etc. and decide if he wants it. If so, you'd then ship it to his FFL in MN. I don't see why you couldn't get paid on the spot when the deal is done, as long as he doesn't take possession of it. That would be no different than any other out of state seller waiting for a check to clear before sending the firearm to the buyer's FFL. Does anyone know of a reason why that wouldn't work?
  21. Maybe they put some Stick'Um on his gloves. It's still going to take some lucky breaks to make the playoffs, but this season might have me me interested again.
