  1. You have clearly never seen Iranian action movies. What you're seeing here in this mock up are leading edge special effects next to those. They have an action hero movie that's kind of like Rambo that's so bad it's good.
  2. It also looks like it was installed by the hacks at their local Best Buy.
  3. In addition to the trespassing mentioned above, he was also violating FAA regulations by not following the instructions of the flight crew. Airlines have deep lobby pockets and have special stuff like that just for them. Plus there's the fact that the doctor agreed to get bumped at the airline's discretion. So did every other person on the flight. So do you and I when we fly. They may not have known it, but they DID agree to it. It's in the small print that none of us read, but it's still there and part of the contract we agree to when we purchase a ticket. In the end, it was a bad move by UAL to make someone deplane for an overbooking when they could have upped the compensation until a volunteer came forward. The passenger violated FAA regulations and may face criminal charges. We'll see. Part of me thinks no DA would go anywhere near this, but another part of me thinks it's a perfect storm of events for a DA and FAA to get the word out that you always obey a flight crew. If they bring charges, everyone in the country will know what happens when you disobey. That might be worth the short-lived social media blowback to some FAA functionary.
  4. ... nevermind . . .
  5. There you go using facts and logic again. I agree that universal BG checks would do little to deter crime. But that doesn't change the fact that many people believe that they would. Whether it's because they've never really been presented with facts and a logical argument about why it wouldn't change much, or because they're idiots, btq96r is correct that the majority of people still favor it. I think it's because most people think about guns, gun rights, and gun laws as much as any of us think about snow-plow operation laws. We don't.
  6. Um....it's not for another 4 weeks...
  7. w00t! has a FoodSaver on sale. I don't know if that's a good price or a good model. Just passing along the sale. http://home.woot.com/plus/foodsaver-technology-vacuum-sealing-system?ref=hm_cnt_wp_1
  8. Yep. Join the NRA and then sign up for free at https://prereg.nraam.org/ They'll mail your passes to you. You can also check-in at the door for free, but pre-registering is free and easy, so I have no plans to sign in at the door. Once you have your passes, you can simply enter and exit the exhibit hall and the free lectures as you please. There are additional ticketed events for which you do have to pay. The NRA-ILA Leadership Forum is where you'll find the big-name guest speakers. Usually politicians, plus the NRA's Chris Cox and Wayne LaPierre. This year they'll also have Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke and Mark Geist, one of the survivors of Benghazi. there are other ticketed events including a concert with Hank Williams, Jr. You can get info and tickets for any or all of them at https://www.nraam.org/
  9. That was definitely true of the early stuff, like Sputnik, Ranger, and the Mercury 7. Developing those rocket platforms perfected the ICBM and the ability to put spy sats in orbit. After that, I really do think it was more about discovery and living/working in space. Gemini was just a test bed for the techniques and equipment needed for Apollo. There was limited military value in going to the moon. That's one reason the USSR never really went for it. No sense in sending a nuke to the moon. But the politics of the day had Americans running scared into backyard bunkers, so JFK saw the space race as a way to instill pride and hope in the American people and simultaneously beat (or at least match) the Soviets at the ICBM game. He could have said "We're going to build missiles that can deliver our nuclear bombs to Moscow before this decade is out, not because it is easy, but because it is hard." Instead, he kick started a scientific boom that gave us that capability without the dark cloud of calling that particular spade a spade.
  10. That Was AWESOME!!!!! And... repost
  11. Probably Richard.
  12. We'd see it again if the nation ever had to go into "Total War" mode. I don't see that happening any time soon, but folks probably said the same thing in the 1930s. Things can change rather quickly. The problem now is that so few US companies actually make things here. Wouldn't it be ironic if our next major war was fought with M4 carbines stamped "Toyota", "Daimler-Benz", and "Nissan" ?
  13. Vindicare is correct. "Waller" is how we southerners lazy-up the word "wallow". I've never heard it used in the screw-head context by anyone but Southerners. "Stripped" is the adjective I've heard used in other places. So wallowing (or wallering) out a screw head is making it into a shallow depression.
  14. That's not normal for Glocks. I don't find any of mine to be any harder to rack than any other semi-auto pistola.
  15. How in the world can it cost 200K and $1m/year after that to remove some stickers? Heck...I bet we could get a TGO clean-up crew to take them down for free. They know good and well that no city is going to put armed guards and metal detectors at the local library, nor should they. An easy way to fix that and remove the fiscal note would be to remove the armed guards and metal detectors exception. See...so simple a cave man can do it.
  16. Now is definitely the time to stock up. It's plentiful and prices are low, even without crazy-good deals like this one. Considering where we were a year or two ago, the $0.30'ish /rd on the WolfGold over at Sportsmans is still pretty dang good. A hair over $0.30 http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/wolf-gold-223-remington-55-grain-fmj-1000-rounds?a=1581231 Double up and get it for a hair under $0.30 http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/wolf-gold-223-remington-fmj-55-grain-2000-rounds?a=2119684 Even the non-member price is pretty good compared to what we have been seeing over the last 3 years. They usually have a free shipping code floating around too.
  17. My only regret is that I only got one case.
  18. Costco often has a great deal on FoodSavers. They'll have a sale on a pretty good model several times a year.
  19. I'm also a UPS MyChoice member. It's free. Any UPS package that goes to my address, I get a notice. I have the same with FedEx. It makes it hard for Mrs. 'Lizard to sneak anything in the door.
  20. It arrived today and is beautifully packed in 50 rd boxes, neatly arranged in the .50 cal ammo can. I checked with a magnet and it is indeed steel-tipped.
  21. I have the jar sealer adapter (standard and wide mouth versions) for the FoodSaver. It pulls a good seal on Mason jars, but the seal doesn't seem to stay for very long. I use it to store flour and sugar in large Mason jars. I've cleaned the lids and the lip of the jars very well, but can't seem to get a seal to keep for more than a few days. Sometimes they pop after just a few minutes. Using or not using rings seems to make little difference. Maybe something's wrong with my FoodSaver when using the hose. When I seal jars, it gives a loud "clunk" and the unit jumps a little right at the end of the vacuum process. I don't get that same result when sealing bags. when using bags, the vacuum motor just stops and the heater starts. I'm not sure if that "clunk" is an indicator of failing to get a good seal, and why my lids pop so quickly. Still, some lids stay put for months and are sealed up tight when I go to use them. they also "clunk"ed because it always does it when using the jar adapter. Does anyone else use the jar adapter with a FoodSaver, and if so do you get the "clunk" sound at the end of the process?
  22. Mine also shows "Shipped". Looks like a done deal. Thanks for the heads up on this one!
  23. Mine still says "Ordered" in the status. No shipping info yet.
  24. Everything that is being made in Maryland today is being moved to Gallatin. I know for certain that includes the M9/92xx models. I'm sure they were planning on landing the Army's new service pistol contract, but that went to Sig.
  25. <<nevermind>>
