  1. I have a Goal Zero Nomad 7 that I picked up dirt cheap at an REI Garage Sale a few years ago when their garage sale events still had good stuff and didn't have a bajillion people lined up at 4am. I like it but almost never use it any more. With the advent of the small power bricks I can keep my phone charged from one of those even on a long camping trip. Now the Nomad 7 is sitting in the "I'll probably never use it but I'm glad I have it for a long emergency" category. Kind of like long-term storage food.
  2. I think I got you all beat. . . Back before Black Friday when Academy was selling 22LR Federal that worked out to around 2.5c/rd after rebate, I ordered 4 cases from their site. I only got 4 because I was able to get 1 case of .45ACP in store and the rebate was only good for 5 cases. . . Imagine my surprise when two FedEx boxes were delivered with 4 cases of 22LR in each box. Packing slips show two shipment #s on the same order #. I double-checked PayPal, only charged once. Now I'm an honest guy so I called Academy. The CSR couldn't figure out what happened and didn't show a double shipment. He said hang on a minute, then about 5 minutes later came back and said "Christmas came early. Enjoy." WOOHOO!
  3. We do, and I'm one of them. At this point, nobody is denying cougars/mountain lions/puma are in Tennessee. That's not the same as a black one. So far, no evidence exists at all of a black cougar anywhere....ever. There are black jaguars and leopards, but those are not in the USA outside of zoos and Russian mobster's collections. As stated above, TWRA denies a resident population of cougars. They're known to travel a long way so confirmed sightings in TN are not evidence of resident populations so TWRA may be correct....or maybe not.
  4. I haven't tried that brand, but it's on my Christmas "Wish List" for Santa this year. I've used hand-crank devices and they generally work fine. A minute of cranking will get you X minutes of use. More for low-power items like a radio or LED, less for high power items like charging a phone.
  5. Check out something like this: https://www.amazon.com/ThorFire-Rechargeable-Collapsible-Flashlight-Emergency/dp/B00NIL1DFO/ref=sr_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1543845015&sr=1-4&keywords=thorfire No need to store batteries. Add in a small portable solar charger and you'll only need the crank as a backup to your backup but it's there if you need it. That said, in case of a massive EMP, nobody knows for sure if any of these LED lights will survive. Being able to supply power to a fried LED won't do much. The only sure way of having light after an EMP is a fuel-burning light source like ye olde kerosene lantern or a torch.
  6. One Second After = A+ One Year After = B- The Final Day = Why did I read that?
  7. As I understand the F-Troop rules, you can loan a firearm to any non-prohibited person in any other state without doing a transfer. A loan doesn't have to have an end date, but must be done without payment or other compensation. @pop pop, if I'm right then you can loan your firearms to your kids and grandkids in other states, but they won't actually own them. When you die, you can leave them to them as an inheritance and there's no requirement for an FFL transfer. They're theirs to use as much as they want until you die, then they become their actual property through inheritance. Disclaimer: Sit tight. OS will be along to confirm or refute this statement
  8. Term life is so cheap there's no reason NOT to have it other than being able to self-insure.
  9. Remember, boys & girls. Keep it unloaded until you're ready to use it. It's an easy mistake to make. Always check it twice. https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/local/community/2018/10/30/dog-shoots-man-hunting-accident-las-cruces/1824498002/
  10. Have any you installed a vehicle GPS tracking device? There has been a rash of vehicle break-ins and thefts in my area and it got me thinking about adding one to the car that stays parked outside. It's older so no on-board GPS like OnStar or the like. I'd probably go with a hardwired one installed behind the dash instead of something as obvious as one plugged in to the OBD port. I'd be interested to know about any first-hand experience ya'll have with them. From installation to monitoring to service plans. What have you liked and disliked?
  11. I guess Ivan forgot to pee down the barrel after using corrosive ammo.
  12. I'm with @SWJewellTN Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein is my go-to on Halloween night.
  13. Looks like a lens flare from the camera's IR flash to me. It just happens to more or less end (or at least blend in) where the ground is so it appears to be a "ghost tree"
  14. I'm not saying they aren't fine. I'm saying a combo works better for me. Do what works best for you.
  15. I have one similar to RED333's. It's a gunVault NanoVault NV300. I went with that one to get the combination lock. I also have one with a key lock, but found I can't open the lock box easily with my keys in the ignition if I have to do it while driving. The combo is quick. It's probably not as secure as the rigid mounted V-Line Obiwan is using, but it would work against any smash-n-grab attack. As long as the perps don't have bolt cutters or an extended period of time to pry it open, I think it will work fine. https://www.gunvault.com/product/nanovault-300/
  16. If you don't like US brands being owned by foreign companies, then you're really going to hate what's coming next. China is dictating what gets built and will control the design direction for the next 20 years or more. It's all about the money and the Chinese market bought 28.2 million new cars in 2017 vs our 17.2 million. Plus that market is growing and ours is shrinking. If I was running a car company, I know which customers I'd be designing my products for. Plus the Chinese government is requiring a WHOLE lot of electric-only vehicles in the coming years and that's going to make its way here. Like it or not.
  17. ^^^^ This. I'd bother to at least have both parties show a TN drivers license, but even that's not an actual requirement.
  18. I don't think it was about her key opening his apartment. A report I read stated she was fumbling with the lock (because her key wouldn't open the lock) and he opened the door from the inside. That's when she shot him.
  19. It certainly was for Jesse who was killed at age 34.
  20. On this day in 1847, Jesse James was born. The outlaw, not the giant douche nozzle on TV.
  21. I'm glad the Wermacht took the time to get proper license plates for their vehicles. They'd have looked pretty stupid invading Poland with the Polizei hot on their heels.
  22. No, but if enough people who buy guns also buy other sporting goods and say "screw 'em" and take their sporting goods business elsewhere, then that hurts them in the general sporting goods market. Enough of that and they'll hurt pretty bad. They're also losing market share to the down side to Academy and to the up side to specialty stores like REI, Edwin Watts, etc. They're in that middle that always gets squeezed when times get tough. If they can't make a ton of money in this booming economy though . . .
