  1. My dad's a collector. He said it's worth $20-$30, maybe. With the rusted out bottom and no lid, it's just not worth anything. Sorry.
  2. +1 KFC Double Down (original recipe): 540 calories 1,380 mg of salt 32 g fat (10 saturated) Big Mac 590 calories 1070mg sodium 34g fat (11g saturated, 0g trans fat) Whopper w/cheese 790 calories 1432mg sodium 48g fat (18g saturated, 1g trans fat)
  3. +1 (and it's 1917-1911m) He has apparently been working with the engineers at S&W/Walther to get a lot of his suggested improvements incorporated into the manufacturing process. Which revision you have will determine how many of his mods are reccomended. The newer the model, the fewer tweaks. Check the magazines. They will have a number printed on the seide. No revision # is the oldest and has problems. Rev A and Rev B are newer and have some of the FTF issues resolved. The "B" rev. has all of his mag mods already done to it from the factory. from Wiki: That would help you know how much needs to be done to make it a great little P22. Mine's an "AK" 2009 run with the B mags. The only thing I'm planning to do is to polish down the trigger bar ears a little bit more. They are digging into the frame a little bit after about 300 rounds, but not as much as the earlier models did based on some pics I've seen. I've not had one FTF or FTE using CCI Mini Mags. 1917-1911M's "P22 Bible" can be found here: http://www.freespeech.com/1917-1911M_P22_bible.pdf
  4. Thanks. I ordered a scope. Pentax GameSeeker 4-12 x 40.
  5. 550 value pack of Federal to start with. That should get me going, then I'll switch to the pricier stuff.
  6. +1. This is the way it's supposed to happen by the letter of the law. Basically, the buyer is always on the hook for sales tax on any and all purchases. Period. The sales tax rate can vary by the item (cars/boats/homes are NOT 9.25% + local option). A business with a presence in the state where the transaction occurs is required to collect the sales tax from the buyer and provide it to the state. A private seller not operating under a business license, or a business with no presence in the state (many Internet/mail order companies) is not required to collect it from the buyer, but the buyer still owes it to the state. +1 again.
  7. Went to Wally World....got the Savage Mk II bolt in synthetic black. It has the iron sights and the swivels.
  8. I'm pretty sure it does have the iron sights, but I want a scope on it. I'm planning on mostly being on a 50 or 100 yard range (Stones River has both) and want to be able to get groupings inside the little 2" targets printed in the corners of the larger targets. I'll use the iron sights some, but I've never used a scoped rifle before. Thought this might be a fun one to start with. I'll post back with what I decide on and maybe some pics too. That Harris bipod shown above does look pretty sweet. Does the Savage Mark II have the front swivel already in place or would I have to add one for a bipod to connect?
  9. What's the difference between reciprocity and recognition? Isn't reciprocity a formal agreement, and recognition informal? Wouldn't that make the exclusion cited in 39-17-1351®(3)©(ii) only apply for issuing states with the formal agreement (which Georgia has)? If so, wouldn't anyone from a recognized state fall under the 30 hours rule?
  10. Great. I'll be picking up a black synthetic bolt-action Mark II w/o sight from Wally World for $127. I like the black better than the brown, and for the $62 price difference between that one and the brown w/sight at Dick's, I think I can get a decent sight for it. Any reccomendations there? I saw some at Wally and checked out a few at Academy too. <<Wally prices>> Bushnell 4x32 $29.97 Bushnell 3-9x40 $54.97 Tasco 3-9x40 $31.97 I liked the ones that had the adjustable magnification power. It seems like I could start at the max zoom, then as I get better, pull the view out to increase the challenge. Assuming a $60-$70 budget, what would be a wise choice to mate with the Savage Mk2 bolt?
  11. To the OP, your GA HCP is valid in TN. Legally you're OK to carry and leave it loaded. Employment would depend on your workplace rules. My HCP instructor told us about a guy that bought a small lockbox/gun safe and bolted it into his trunk. Then stored his gun in there when he was at work, as the building was posted, but the parking lot was not. Then it was safe from being stolen if his car was broken into while he was at work.
  12. Let's see.....what's in Vegas besides gambling and shows..... golf and hookers.
  13. I was in the class at G&L today with my wife and D3vo. It was good.
  14. She did just fine w/o the laser today. I was very proud of her. You guys were right. If anyone fails that, they have no business carrying a handgun.
  15. If buyer and seller are within the same state, the seller is supposed to collect sales tax and pass it on to the state. Merchant vs. individual is not a factor. Garage sales count too. If the sale is across state lines and the seller has no presence in the buyer's state, the seller has no duty to collect sales tax, but the buyer is supposed to report the purchase to their state and pay sales tax. Nobody would try to collect sales tax at a yard sale and nobody would fill out a form with the state to pay the $14.83 in sales tax they technically owe for the iPod they bought from Amazon. States that rely on a sales tax are quite aware of how much is being lost to these types of dealings. That's what the eBay tax thing is about. Trying to get those taxes collected that are actually owed, but are currently going unpaid. The second tax being mentioned by mosinon is either a capital gains tax or an income tax, depending on the nature of the sale and what the sold item is. This tax has nothing to do with sales tax or with eBay or others offering to collect taxes during the transaction. The sales tax is based on the full amount of the sale, not on the sellers profit/loss. The sales tax should be handled as stated above, but the seller may owe additional taxes on the gain/profit. If the item is sold at a loss, sales tax still applies, but the lost value can be claimed as a deduction by the seller.
  16. I don't currently have a rifle and have been looking at some cheap .22 models to get started with target shooting. After reading some of the threads on here, it looks like Savage is a popular brand for this. Dick's has a bolt-action Savage Mark II BXP (laminate body with scope) for $189. Academy has a semi-auto Savage 64 FXP (synthetic body with scope) for $129. The 64 also lacks the AccuTrigger. What's the difference here besides those already mentioned? Is the Mark II better than the 64 and worth the price difference?
  17. Ooh, that makes a difference. She's been doing fine at 10 yards (30 feet). So this may be a non issue. I heard it was 3 yards, 7 yards, and 50 feet. Seemed to me like quite a jump from 7 yards to just over 16.6 yards. 36' would make it 12 yards and that's much more managable. She shouldn't have a problem then.
  18. Actually, the laser question was for my wife. I'm staying inside the 7 ring at 50' with my XD .40 with the stock sights. She'll be shooting with her Walther P22, and I'm having a hard time hitting the giganto-target at 50' with that one. She's going to struggle, I'm afraid. If the laser would have been allowed, It would have given her more confidence that she can pass. She's worried about the 50' part. We'll see how it goes. Class is Saturday.
  19. That's what I thought, so I just called....not allowed where I'm taking mine.
  20. I've heard of the the range in Joelton, but according to Google Maps it's about the same drive time as Stones River. And I usually shoot with a guy from Antioch or one from Mt. Juliet. It's time for a West Nashville range.
  21. Thanks. If the 5" won't increase the accuracy, I might as well keep the 3" and add the laser.
  22. I have a 3" model. Does anyone have experience with both the 3" and 5" barrels? I'm wondering if it's worth $125 for the 5" conversion kit to increase accuracy at the range.
  23. I have a Walther P22 3" (in black). Both my wife and I like to shoot it. And I really like that what she learns on the P22 directly translates to larger handguns. It makes my XD less intimidating to her (though she's still not comfortable witth that one). I bought the P22 for her, but I find that I'll shoot 2 to 3 times as much ammo with it than with my .40. Easy and cheap to load and shoot. If you go for the P22, be sure to get high-velocity ammo. CCI Mini-Mags seem to work the best. Wally World has them for about $6.50/100. I've read that after a few thousand rounds the main spring will loosen up a bit and you can run cheaper ammo like Wally's Federal packs at $1.50/50, but it still has to be high velocity. Another trick is to check the markings on the magazine. You want one with the "B" model mags. This would indicate a newer manufacturing that has corrected a lot of earlier flaws. There's a way to tell the gun manufacture year by the serial#, but I can't recall what it is. I think "AK" means 2009.
