  1. There's a pop-up carnival going in at the parking lot of West Wilson Middle School. I would think that carrying would still be a no-no even though school is out and it's a non-school event. We won't discuss what court orders some carnies are breaking by being within 100 yards of a school. That got me thinking about churches with schools. I don't mean Sunday school classes, I mean private schools. If they're co-located on the same property, can you carry during church events? I would think that if the buildings are separated and aren't mixed-use, it'd be fine in the church side, and never on ths chool side. But what if they have a sanctinasium that's used as a sanctuary on Sunday mornings, and the gym for the school during the week?
  2. Where's the Chicken Ranch? I smell road trip.
  3. That's a bit of a red herring, dontcha think? The USSR was a member of the Allied powers. But like I said, nothing to do with the specific actions of D-Day, so I don't see why his bust is up there.
  4. If we're going to say Stalin shouldn't be there because it's a D-Day memorial, and not a WWII memorial, then why is Truman there? Stalin's forces had a much greater role in the success of D-Day than many people realize. The Red Army inflicted the vast majority of German casualties. Without Soviet sacrifices on the Eastern Front, D-Day would not have succeeded. Hitler would have been able to move more armies from the East to the West and would have pushed us back into the sea, like Rommel wanted to do. He could have covered the coast with panzers from Cherbourg to Calais if they weren't tied up in the East. That said, Stalin wasn't directly involved in D-Day, so I don't think he should be there. But neither should Truman.
  5. Handgun Carry Permit Reciprocity Information You're good to go all the way to the Arizona/California border.
  6. +1. It's just really hard to find yourself as the only one there except when the weather sucks.
  7. Private ranges are fine, but ISTM that I have to know someone in it first. Sort of like the Masons....To be one, ask one. I don't know any private range members, and don't know where any are. I'm not selling a kidney to shoot at Rick Usselton's (a nice place, but pricey), and I have no desire to ever see the inside of Gun City. That leaves me with Stones River and GnL*. I like SR well enough. It's as close to home as GnL, which is about 45 minutes. The price is low and the range is clean (same for GnL). I try to get there at opening time and it seems to help with the overcrowding. Brass is theirs once it goes in a yellow bucket, but I've never had a problem with collecting it and putting it in my own bag. The screens are fine for catching brass from the neighbors, but it's not real helpful when the .45's start up. Then I'd like a more substantial barrier, like what GnL has. Jenny is certainly more present than some of the others, but I've not found her to be overly intrusive. On slow days, she's given me some good advice that has improved my aim. I was corrected by her for a couple of things my first time there, but wasn't yelled at. I appreciated the correction and the clarification of what's expected. It has never been a problem since then. I was glad for the RSO's over-protective attitudes 2 weeks ago. I can't tell you how many times the loud-speaker guy warned "#3, stay behind the red line while the range is cold." I think #3 finally got a clue when he said "once more and I'll kick you out." I'm just wondering why it took so long for the RSO to get to that warning. My 2 main complaints about the place are too short a time for shooting before it goes cold, and stupid dinner-plate targets. I can live with the time issue, but I'm honestly not good enough to group headshots at 50 feet yet. I want a silhouette target and don't understand why we can't use them. If it's because of the frame size....change the frame system. If it's beacuse it's a "family" environment, give me a break. *Unless one of you fine TGO'ers who are private range members want to pass along an invitation
  8. I used to have a list that showed what your car says about you. I don't remember all of them but this one sticks with me: Jeep: I'm a rugged individualist. Just like everyone else who drives a Jeep.

    XD40 or XD9?

It may depend on how much you shoot at the range. I have an XDsc .40 and like it a lot, but it's not much fun to shoot by the time I get to the end of 100 rounds. That could be the shorter barrell, but I know 9mm in a 5" barrell is easier on the hand than .40 in a 3". An XDm-9 4.5" will probably be my next handgun purchase.
  10. "Hey, honey. Hold this spotlight for me." <<BANG>>
  11. yes. Some of the best chimichangas around.
  12. There's a couple in my neighborhood from New York. They were great during the flooding. they were bringing us sammiches, setting up information tents, etc. I told them they'd better be careful or that rotten reputation they've worked so hard to build will fall apart
  13. Do you think I can fit that in an MTAC?
  14. Oh...did I mention that some of the letters are crooked and the text lines don't line up centered? It's great. I'll try to get a picture of it some day.
  15. SNL did a great spoof of this. It ends with "Get Broadview. Or get murdered." I'm sure it's on Hulu.

    XDm in .45 ACP

Could that article have sounded any more like it came fresh out of the Springfield marketing department? We all know that most articles in the gun rags are just adverts, but this one seemed more blatant than most.
  17. There's a car in East Nashville near Fatherland Street that has the memorial decals in the back window, but it's made of the square stick on letters for boat registration or mailbox numbers. Now that's ghetto.
  18. Surprisingly, that has been my experience this week. Except for the first guy that asked about looters, and a hardwood guy I've worked with before who said "I see ya got yer heater", nobody else has seemed to care.
  19. hmm....maybe I can sneak a new 12 ga. shotty in between the hardwood and the drywall invoices. Maybe my wife won't notice....
  20. I like that. I should make one and put it up at the entrance to the neighborhood.
  21. Yeah, I thought about the "tipping off", but in this case, I'd rather that be a well known fact and be a deterent.
