  1. I thought John's flamethrower was pretty awesome. TiVo /DVR is great for shows like this. I get to see all the cool stuff they're building w/o having to listen to a bunch of whining cry babies.
  2. PeiWei/PFChang's The Loveless Cafe is great too.
  3. Do any of you ladies have experience with a thigh holster? Mrs. monkeylizard may be interested in one for summer carry with dresses/skirts.
  4. I must have seen that pic a dozen times and I've never paid attention to the backstop. Lol. That can't be real.
  5. +1 on GnL. Great staff, broad selection, decent pricing, fair FFL transfer fee, a great gunsmith, a low price on the HCP class, and 2 indoor ranges. Politics and personalities aside, Uselton's range is bright and clean, as is the shop. The staff there were never rude to me when I was first learning about handguns. In fact, they were quite helpful. It's where my wife and I learned to shoot. The instructor was good and the class was very helpful to both of us. I just wish I had known then how overpriced it is. If it wasn't for the stupid high prices on the FFL transfer, classes, guns, supplies, range, and ammo, (that's everything, right?) I'd go back. As it is, I probably never will. I'm a capitalist, so more power to him if he can keep customers at those prices. His only local competition seems to be Franklin Gun Shop, which I hear is equally overpriced. I stopped in at Guns for America yesterday with D3vo. It's a small shop near 100 Oaks. I estimated about a dozen or so long guns and two dozen handguns, plus a selection of accessories and targets. Mrs. Owner was there yesterday. She welcomed us when we came in, then left us to browse. Once we found something we wanted to see, she was very helpful. FFL fee is reasonable, and the shop is centrally located. Keep up the good work.
  6. From the pics, paintless dent repair (PDR) looks like a good candidate. That's the dent wizard/dent genie process. Mike.357's post about $50-75 per dent is about right. More than that and you're getting taken for a ride. The type of dent makes a difference. Think baseball dent vs. sharp object dent. PDR is good on the first, but can only mitigate the second. Call your Jeep dealer and ask who they use for their PDR work. You can also call your insurance and ask for a recommended PDR shop, even if you don't file a claim. +1 on the dry ice. Run, don't walk.
  7. Long guns are fine, AFAIK. It's handguns that have to pass through an FFL for ownership to legally cross state lines (with some exceptions).
  8. What do you fill the sandbags with (and don't say "sand")? I mean, does it matter what kind of sand is used? Is there some particular grade that needs to be used? I've seen some sites say kitty litter works, which would suggest a very coarse sand and not a fine powder sand. Does it matter?
  9. It's coming back to Discovery on July 27th. New location, new suvrivors, new challenges.

  11. It's one of their Gold Box Lightning Deals. Click the little gold trasure chest towards the top of their main page for the deals.
  12. Terry's a great ambassador for aviation. I'm sure he's serious about stopping down there to give you a ride in his fork-tailed contraption. He offered to take me down to CHA to look at something I was considering over in the TGO Classifieds. But to me he's not some strange guy from the Interwebz offering me a ride in his airplane. He's the strange guy in the office next to mine offering me a ride in his airplane. Seriously, I can vouch that he's not a serial killer*. If he's offering a ride and you're interested, give it a try. *Once or twice doesn't count as "serial" does it?
  13. I'd welcome the help. Any volunteers?
  14. I was going to recommend the John Hancock tower. Glad you found it. I think it's a better deck than the Willis (Sears) Building, and a lot more to do near it in the watertower area.
  15. Angus was over in the Long Guns section looking for a way to clean some surface rust from a Mosin barrel. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/long-guns/42627-stoopy-didnt-clean-his-mosin.html In the thread, CLP and CLR are both mentioned and it was stated that CLR would take care of the rust but also remove blueing. I have an H&R .22 revolver with some surface rust and some blueing that's not in the greatest condition. I've thought about finding a way to strip it down and polish it instead of blueing it. Sort of using it as an experiment platform, as I've never done anything like that before. If I completely disassemble it, would CLR take off the blueing/rust without hurting anything else? And would a polishing wheel on a Dremel be an acceptable way to polish the remaining steel or do I need a polishing wheel on my bench grinder? Does anything need to be applied to the polished metal to protect it from future rust (a clear-coat type product, perhaps)?
  16. How? By using the knobs on the top and side of the scope, or should I be doing something with the screws on the rings? n00b
  17. Thanks. That's what I needed to know. Now I just need to figure out how to align the scope....
  18. In that case, let's get some more opinions, since I haven't purchased the bipod yet. Bipod, bag, or rest? And why?
  19. Lazarus, come forth! I've been a bit distracted, what with 5 feet of water at the house a week after my last post. I finally got the scope mounted on some #24 mounts and Leupold rings. I took it to the Stones River range on Saturday. No wind to speak of. First, I think I'll add a bipod. That should make it much easier. Everyone else had one or a bag. I had neither. I know I looked like the n00b that I am. I'll post a pic once I mount that. Second, I need some help figuring out how to adjust the scope. I was shooting at 50 yards and I was aiming about 12" left and 18" high for the rounds to hit the target. So the scope is high and left of the barrel. the scope has knobs on the top and right side. I adjusted them as far as they'd go, and that's when I got to the 12" and 18". Turning the knobs the other direction made it worse.
  20. Because there's a hot chick in Apt 804 that sunbathes topless on the 8th floor balcony on sunny days. Or option 2: He's a midget that can't reach the "12" button unless he has his umbrella with him.
