As stated on the other thread, name brand or price don't have much to do with tread life. A cheaper off-brand tire can last longer than an expensive premium brand. But tread life is only a part of a tire's performance. There's also speed rating, wet traction, dry traction, noise, ride comfort, and ice/snow/mud/offroad traction. Check the UTQG code on tires you're looking at. It will show you a number for the tread life, then two leters for speed and temperature ratings. The tread life doesn't mean how many miles you'll get, but it's more of a relative number. A 200 tire will get half the miles of a 400 tire. On one car, that could be 20K and 40K. On another car that could be 35K and 70K. As for the factory tires not holding up, it's because most car manufacturers now use tires with a low tread life number to cut costs. My Mazda 3 came with some Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires that were banana peels by 18K. Not a cheap tire at about $150 ea, just a low tread life. I've always liked www.tirerack.com. They have a good selector tool for your vehicle's year/make/model and then you can sort by what properties are important to you. +1 on Michelins. You'll usually pay more for them, but they're great tires all around. Performance and tread life is usually excellent.

I just got home. It was a real fun time. Sorry you guys missed it. The food was good and the service was too. I'll be back as long as it stays unposted. The manager dude from the WSMV video wasn't there. I'll send an e-mail instead. -

I know, I know, gun ban, blah blah... Chicago. From Nashville, it's usually one of the cheapest places to fly. And Southwest has non-stops. I'd say catch a Cubs game, but they never play in October. Keep an eye on the following. Deals are released each week on Wednesday. You can sign up for an email alert. http://www.travelzoo.com/top20/ http://www.shermanstravel.com/top25

I'll get a table for 6 based on the responses so far. If you're not on the list below and want to come then please respond and let me know so we can have a spot for you. "I'll try" is close enough to get on the list. So far I have reserved seats for me D3vo Terry_Frymire tntnixon and maybes on Buzz87 6.8 AR -

It used to be a place called 'Lil Cee's at Douglas and Jones. Don't know if that's still it or not. -
A little help locating it? I don't see any related threads.

Jackson's Pro-2A Meet (Nashville)

Easy. We'll be the ones with the guns making our server poop his pants. Seriously though, I'll post here tomorrow what me, D3vo, and Terry_Frymire are wearing (we all work together). That should make it easy to find us. -
During the early days following the May floods, I was able to borrow a 5500W generator from a friend until the main power came back online. It was extremely useful and post-flood cleanup would have been much more diffciult without being able to power up lights at night, fans all the time, and recharge battery-packs for tools. I plan on buying one for myself now, but the large ones in a frame on wheels (like the 5500W Craftsman) would have to reside in my garage. If it had been in my garage, it would have been flooded and may not have worked when I needed it. So I've been looking at some of the smaller ones like the Honda 2000W and 3000W series. Even with all the stuff I had going, I never taxed the 5500W. A neighbor was running pretty much his whole house excpet the HVAC on an 8000W. The Honda ones are supposed to be super quiet (45-55 db) which could be important in an SHTF to not announce to the zombies that I have a genny. They're also small enough that I can keep them upstairs in an attic storage area, so no flood problem. I think a 2K or 3K would do th normal 6hr to 3 day power outages we have around TN from ice/snow, or the occasional tornado. I have a gas fireplace, so I don't need to run space heaters in a winter outage. Natural gas grill for cooking. I'd mostly just want it for some lights, the fridge, TV, and a PC/cable modem. So, does anyone have experience with the small generators (Honda or others)? Good or bad?

Didn't any of these people watch Season 1 before applying for the role? The windmill is like the radio broadcast sign from Season1. DOH! And as far as knowing where they live? Just look for the building with the lights on at night. S1 folks had an easier area to secure and maintain. They also had more/better qualified people and more/better stuff. I seem to recall that the attacks on S1 came later in the season, giving the participants more time to (a) secure their stuff and ( begin the psychological process of moving from TV show cast member to survivor. S2 folks have some serious disadvantages with their location, supplies/equipment, staffing (both quantity and quality), and how early they're facing the outsiders. They do have more group cohesiveness though. Less bickering...but it's still early.

You're right. I forgot Win7 was also offered in 32-bit.

Any way that gaming rig can be direct wired to the router with Cat-5? Then watch the Mbps rate at different times of the day. That will tell you if it's traffic inside your own WiFi network or some interference on the WiFi channels (speed stays good on Cat-5), or if it's Comcast getting slammed and dropping your speed (speed drops, even on Cat-5). If it's the later, check your agreement with Comcast. If you're supposed to be getting more than you are, call them. Don't let them tell you the router/modem is bad. Make them send someone out to check the connections at their box. IME: WiFi + gaming = FAIL. Every microsecond counts. +1 on the memory not being the problem. 32-bit is capped at recognizing 3.5GB, and will only use 3GB. Now if you switched to Win7, you can load up as much as your motherboard can handle. That said, you know the network speed is dropping. No amount of RAM will overcome that.

Link please? As for welfare, that's kind of a nebulous term in this country. It encompasses stuff such as WIC, food stamps, free or reduced daycare, and free or reduced school lunches. Qualifying for those usually requires someone to be working or trying to work (at least in theory). Other welfare is stuff like HUD homes or Sec. 8 housing. I really don't know the working requirements on those. Then you have just plain old welfare kings/queens who don't produce anything but kids and collect checks. In theory, there is no program that provides this kind of "support". In reality, they just game an existing system meant to help people in the earlier categories. I've heard the number of around 5 million people tossed around, but I don't know if that's just the deadbeats, or if it includes the working poor who are getting assistance, but not a free ride. Either way, I suspect that number has increased over the past couple of years.

I like the Camo Couch. It reminds me of LL Cool J in "Toys".

In response to Server: Guns In Restaurants A Workplace Hazard - Nashville News Story - WSMV Nashville we should meet up at Jackson's to support the manager. How does this Friday evening sound, say 6:30? If not, then I suspect we'd have to push it to after Labor Day.

And I thought I was the only one here with a Rohm. We should start a club. We can use the Rohms as clubs.
-
Rohm RG-10. My dad bought it some 40 years ago and hadn't fired it since. I cleaned it up and took it to the range. The guy next to me asked me to stop using it after about the fourth shot through it because of all the lead it was spraying.

That's jumping to conclusions. I know I never needed alcohol to make me drive like a jackass when I was 19. +1 to Mike.357

The only reason he lived is because K.I.T.T. turned the car around (after hitting the Turbo Boost to fly) in midair so he hit the bridge with the rear, not the front. Lucky.

It's the landlord's name on the box, right? Why not just call him and ask if he's expecting a package from whoever is on the return address? If he is, tell him they're inside and that he needs to update is address with whoever sent them. If not, open 'em up and have an early Christmas.
