If Pirate Booty looks like that, it's no wonder pirates drank so much rum...

Can a zombie thread be double-tapped through the head?
-
I was wondering if anyone else picked up on that. Must have been one of those automatic Glock revolvers we keep hearing about. I enjoyed it. Season Pass on the TiVo has been set. Now for some weekly commercial-free zombie action.

Sorry for the duplication Daniel. I couldn't recall the name of the shop so I couldn't search for it. You're right though. bubbadavis started it in the Handguns forum.

I saw a new shop in Bellevue. YES, REALLY! It's near Sam's Club on OHB next to the Subway and across the street from Rojo Red's car wash. Does anyone know anything about this one? They were closed yesterday. Looks like the hours are 9-9 Mon-Sat. I couldn't tell if they were open for business yet or not.

You described this as *your* first gun, but if you plan to have Mrs. Cowboy learn to shoot it too, be sure to let her shoot the ones you're evaluating. You may find that she doesn't like shooting _________ and therefore won't. for the blank you can fill in "caliber", "manufacturer/model", "semi-auto", "revolver", "full-size", "compact", "double-stack mags", etc. Mrs. 'lizard hates to shoot my XD .40 subcompact. But she likes a full size Taurus PT-92 (fake Beretta 92FS) in 9mm because it has much less felt recoil. She also likes her Walther P-22 because the grips are very thin and she can hold it better than either of the two mentioned above. I guess the shortened version of this is buy what you want, as long as she doesn't hate it. She doesn't have to love it, but if it's difficult or downright painful for her to shoot, she won't. If she's not going to be shooting, then nevermind....carry on.

By most accounts, the XD line is as durable as a Glock. Both are solid choices. I chose a .40 XD over a Glock as my first handgun because of the (to me) more natural grip angle and the 1911-style grip safety. The grip safety gave me more peace of mind as a novice. Now that I've been shooting/carrying for a little while, that's not such a big deal, but it did factor into my decision making for the first purchase.

America's Army made it so you always see yourself as the US Army and the other side is always OPFOR (and they see themselves as Army, and you as OPFOR). It's the only one I know of that ever did that.

I just picked up an LCP and took it to Stones River TWRA on Sunday to get some rounds through it. I put 40 JHP and 100 FMJ down range. I dropped the mag out 3 times during that session, so it's not just you. I wasn't drawing, just firing. I'll have to make some adjustments. Other than the 3 mag drops, I had no FTFs of any kind. A stiffer release spring would probably help, but so will keeping my thumb up where it's supposed to be. It's a problem on these tiny mouse guns. There's not much room between where your thumb should be and where it shouldn't be. And if you have big hands, there's no difference between those 2 areas.

Just put a little duck sauce on it and imagine you're dining at the Golden Jade Panda Phoenix Palace, or whatever your local Chinese place calls itself.

It looks like a lot like a Rohm RG-10 that my dad has, so a I did a little Googling with the two names together. It looks like these Imperials may have been imported by a shop in Kinston in the late 1960's and 1970's. Well, the parts anyway. Since it says made in the USA, it was assembled here, but probably from Rohm parts. A ban on these cheap i,ported guns was passed in 1968, so people started bringing in the parts and doing final assembly here. Then they could say it was made in the USA. I found one place that said the Models were 5, 7 and 11. Only the 7 was .22 short. The 5 and 11 handle short and long. <<Note: This information is sketchy at best>> I've seen low quality .22s going for $25 to $125 based on condition and just how far down the quality scale it sits. Probably in the $25-$75 range, but you never know who might pay a little more for an odd-brand. Personally, you'd have to pay me to take a Rohm or anything that looks like a Rohm. You couldn't pay me enough to ever shoot one again. My dad's Rohm sprays lead out the sides that can be felt about 10 feet away. South Carolina has banned retail sales of both Rohm and Imperial .22 handguns because they're junk with a low melting point of the frame.

I sent them a message via their website. Perhaps another Stoney River in the making.... Roar, TGO...ROAR! -
HAARP was a conspiracy topic fifteen years ago. Can't we get some new ways to control the masses, change the weather, and cause earthquakes?

See one post before yours... 'nuff said.

I play a lot of video games. Does that count? I've been looking at the CIS classes, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Walther P22 (22LR) . Who has had problems with this gun?
monkeylizard replied to perstare's topic in Handguns
I can't recall if it's mentioned in the P-22 Bible, but several of the improvements that the author made were incorporated into revised P-22 designs, directly because of his efforts working with the folks at S&W support. I know you bought it new, but if it was old stock, it's old design. The magazine lettering will end in a number (oldest) or an A (revised) or a B (newest revised). The receiver has a year encoded in it as a 2-letter code. A=0, B=1, C=2 ...(J is skipped)... I=8 and K=9 . So "AK" = 09 production year. I can't recall when major revisions were introduced, but newer is definitely better on the P-22. The only issue I have is that my targets never look like mykltn's -
I seem to recall that Nashville parks are all off-limits, but that they are not posted and don't have to be. Is that true? 39-17-1311.e.2 is clear that it needs to be posted.

+1 Or that a bus-load of kids is miliing about the property on a field trip that you didn't know about. After reading the roaming felony zone thread, it makes me nervous to carry anywhere.

Greatest Gun Platform EVER Built!!! A Small tribute to the A-10 Warthog.
monkeylizard replied to a topic in General Chat
vontar, that's pretty close to the truth. The USAF started looking for a better cloase air support platform in the late 1960's. I think it was 1970 or 71 when they released detailed RFPs for a 30mm anti-armor gun and an airplane to put it in. The GAU-8 30mm Avenger system was developed (by General Electric) and competed against a proposal from someone else that I can't recall right now. At the same time, the YA-10 (by Fairchild Republic) and YA-9 (by Northrup) were being built for the second RFP. The early prototypes of the YA-9 and YA-10 didn't have the GAU-8 in it, because it wasn't ready yet. Certainly there was some general specification sharing between the gun designers and the aircraft designers for dimensional and weight constraints. I don't know that I've ever heard which one forced more changes on the other, but it probably went both ways. -
Kahr's CW9 is one I've been looking at. I have an XDsc in .40 and wouldn't mind a single-stack mag. It's only 2 rds less than my XDsc in .40. The CW9 is a little larger than the Kahr PM9, but it's significantly less.

So...how'd that work out for ya?

+1 on don't trust the site, at least not fully. There's a place in Bellevue called Tee's that my wife and I go that's listed as Anti on the site. It even has a quote from the owner. I checked for stickers/signs yesterday, and there weren't any. I ate at the place next door (free plug for Sam's Gyros in Bellevue....yummy!) until I can talk with the owner and verify her stance on it (and respectfully tell her why I'll never come back if it's true). I'd hate to lose that as a dining option. We don't have many good choices in Bellevue. On a plus side, the site has given me another reason to go try Tokyo Japanese. Status: Guns Allowed. Now to check the Health Score..... P.S. Is that the Caesar's on White Bridge in Nashville?

Handgun given as gift across state lines?
monkeylizard replied to Patton's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's the "carried" part I'm looking for. I know it needs to go to the recipient's FFL. I was just wondering if how it arrived at the FFL was important. I wouldn't think so, because that shop down in Georgia just across the state line that deals in LEO surplus Glocks and stuff basically just carries a TN purchase to an FFL that's a few doors down, AFAIK. But that's a little different since it's from one FFL to another. -
Handgun given as gift across state lines?
monkeylizard replied to Patton's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Right. I know I wouldn't need an FFL on my end if I'm sending one, but doies it have to be shipped to the FFL? What if I'm visiting the recipient in his/her home state? Do I still have to incur the shipping costs/hassle?
