  1. XDsc .40 in a CompTac Minotaur is my EDC. Good choice.
  2. Sorry, but the Walther P-22 won't make it. I was cleaning it tonight and found that the trigger bar ears are cracked almost all the way through. Will be sending it in to Smith & Wesson for repair.
  3. The 9800s should be OK. You likely won't be able to run all the settings on high, but it should be playable on the lower settings.
  4. My XD is .40 and you're welcome to try it. I know it will have a different recoil than a 9mm, but size wise, they're very similar if not identical. What I'm bringing: Walther P-22 (.22LR) XD subcompact (.40S&W) Ruger LCP (.380) Savage MarkII scoped (.22LR) Anyone is welcome to shoot any or all of them with their own ammo. I'll be the guy wearing the three-wolf-moon shirt. The power of the wolves helps me shoot better.
  5. Doh!. I forgot about the east entrance. +1 to that. It also puts Sunset Crater on the way, instead of out of the way. You'd take US 89 out of Flagstaff past Sunset Crater and pick up AZ 64.
  6. <<Former Oklahoma City and Tucson resident checking in>> First of all, who scheduled a conference in Phoenix in August? You should haze them. Arkansas - Stop for gas...keep going Oklahoma - OKC now has the memorial for the federal building bombing. Other than that, stop for gas...keep going. Definitely hit the Big Texan in Amarillo. It's a classic. Amarillo is also a good midpoint if you're trying to do the drive in 2 days. If you want to do it in 3, stop in OKC and Albuquerque. New Mexico: There's Trinity Site out in the middle of nowhere. Other than that, what David said. Oh wait...that's the reason it has Trinity Site. Stop for gas....keep going. Arizona: +1 for Sedona. Very cool. I like Montezuma's Castle and the nearby Monetzuma's Well for something a bit different. It's still in the desert floor, so it will be hot. Montezuma Castle National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) http://www.nps.gov/sucr is really neat. It's out of the way, but very unique. It may be too late, but if there's availability, book the El Tovar in the Grand Canyon. Otherwise, the closest decent lodging is Flagstaff, and most of that's iffy at best. www.TripAdvisor.com has been a great resource for finding places to stay that don't include complimentary urine stained matresses. To get to the Canyon from Flagstaff, you can take I-40 West to Hwy 64. or US 180 to Hwy 64. 180 is a much prettier drive than 40/64, but sometimes you'll go for long periods of time without seeing another car. Time wise, I think they're about the same. The Park Service's Grand Canyon page says it's remote, so gas up. It's not kidding. Fill up in Flagstaff and have some sunscreen and plenty of water with you. You do NOT want to run out of gas/water in August out there. There's a crossroads (180 and 64) about halfway from Flagstaff to the GC that used to have one gas station that had a monopoly (and prices to match), and a questionable hotel. Could be more there now. It has been about 10 years since I was there last. There's nothing else until you reach a small town at the entrance of the park called Tusayan. the IMAX show is pretty cool there. Sad to say, but McDonald's is probably your best dining option there besides the restaurant at El Tovar. There's a steakhouse in Tusayan, but it's overpriced for what it is. Think Shoney's steaks on a Longhorn price.
  7. Thanks guys. That's exactly what I was looking for. I hadn't considered a 20 ga., but that may be a good option. It would let my wife shoot too. She said she'd like to try it, and I think she'd like it, but I think a 12 ga is too much for her. On second thought....the bruise on my shoulder says 20 ga. is a good idea....
  8. Thanks Hozzie. What price range should I be looking in to get something good for my purposes? I can wait and save. In the old thread, I was keeping it <$500. I've now grown out to around the $800 mark. I can keep waiting and saving if it means I'll end up with something much better in the end. I just dont want to wait for years to finally have enough for a new Beretta Golden Super Deluxe Diamond Crow with a fringe on top, or whatever they name their latest. I swear some of these shotgun makers took a play from the Chinese restaurant naming book. Take about 6 terms and randomly jumble them together.
  9. Thanks guys. Is there a reason besides appearances to go for a higher end gun like a used Beretta instead of a new CZ for what I'm looking to do with it? Are those multi-thousand dollar Italian jobs really that much better than a CZ, or a Stoeger? Keep in mind that I don't plan to get competitive with this. Just shooting for fun. I do think I want to stick with O/U. They look a lot easier to clean, and with fewer parts, should last longer, right?
  10. I had a great time yesterday at the Nashville Gun Club on the sporting clays course. It was my second time shooting and I really like it. I need to pick up a gun of my own if I'm going to keep doing this. I was using someone else's Beretta Silver Pigeon. I don't see myself ever hunting or shooting clays competitively or keeping score. Just going out a few times a year and shooting with friends for the fun of it. I had been looking at the Beretta 3901 semi-auto, but it seems like everyone I saw yesterday was using an O/U. Is CZ-USA as big of a sleeper brand in shottys as it is in handguns or would I be better served to spend more on a Browning, Beretta, etc.? CZ 12ga. O/U's are running in the $500-$1000 range, depending on model. I'd like to stay in the $500-$750 range.
  11. Nice. I'll just have to hold my nose (and tatsebuds) at Applebee's lousy food and give you some business.
  12. That's wronger than a wrong thing that is wrong. Here's the current 39-17-1359. Michie's Legal Resources The sign has to be the gunbuster or have language substantially similar to the phrasing on the law. 39-17-1359.(.(3).( now clarifies what "substantially similar" means. 39-17-1359.(.(3).( As used in this section, “language substantially similar to” means the sign contains language plainly stating that: (i) The property is posted under authority of Tennessee law; (ii) Weapons or firearms are prohibited on the property, in the building, or on the portion of the property or building that is posted; and (iii) Possessing a weapon in an area that has been posted is a criminal offense. The one in the OP doesn't qualify for 2 out of 3. I'll call that one FAIL. However, it's been said on TGO in several threads that carrying past a sign (legal or not) has not been brought into a TN court room. Nobody seems eager to be the first. With the sign in the OP, I would carry past it if I had to go in. Concealed. It's not against the law as most people seem to understand it around here..
  13. Not unless we're in Belle Meade.
  14. I stopped in today and probably won't be back. If I want to be ignored and then pay that kind of money, I'll go to Franklin.
  15. A bad fuse was my thought too, until he said headlights. I don't have a fuse box diagram for a CR-V, but I don't think I've ever seen a vehicle not have the headlights on its own fuse. Try www.automotiveforums.com I've always had good luck with help from their model specific sub-forums. I'd also run it over to Advance Auto Parts and have them run a free OBD check. The computer may be throwing out some error codes, but nothing serious enough to activate the "Check Engine" light. If it is, those codes will help you figure out the problem.
  16. Win 7 has some better security features that are kind of invisible. Mostly, it just looks like a better XP. I looooove the "snap" feature. when I go to work and have to use XP, I keep trying to "snap" my windows to the sides. It sounds like you're the kind of guy who keeps his PC around for a long time. Do you really want to spend money on a new PC and have it running a 9 year old OS? Make the move to Win7. Some older peripherals can be a problem, especially advanced features. My HP all-in-one would print fine with 7 and the card reader worked, but there was no driver for the scanner. I was able to find one for a different HP model that works fine. Then I bought a new all-in-one because I got tired of the old one breaking down on me every few days. My old Kodak software doesn't work right either, but the Libraries feature in Win7 makes me not need the Kodak software.
  17. Zombies must know how to use riding mowers. The grass in the park wasn't 3 weeks high.
  18. the guys over at Box O Truth tested against frozen clothing. No difference in balistics. The Box O' Truth #36 - Frozen Clothing And The Box O' Truth - Page 1
  19. Many malls are this way. It seems that to be in the letter of the law, there would need to be a posting at each entrance from the department stores to the mall itself. Most malls just have them on their direct doors, and on the "Rules of Conduct" sign that's written in 8 point font and shoved off to the side of the Information desk that nobody uses. As far as whether or not a DA would prosecute and if the case would be succesful remains unknown. I don't want to be the case study on that one.
  20. Yep. Brentwood PD just switched from Glock .40 to M&P .45.
  21. I have a CompTac Minotaur for my XD subcompact. It's IWB. That one and the Crossbreed SuperTuck are very popular and comparable in their quality and functionality.
  22. Is he home most of the time, or should I call ahead to be sure he'll be there?
