  1. I think he meant in Nashville. Cowboy hats in the city are usually reserved for (a) people going to Fan Fair or ( people who perform at Fan Fair. But there's always an exception or two. You'll always see more downtown around the honky-tonks.
  2. I was hoping for the full 20-25. Oh well. I'll take 13 over 0 any day.
  3. What, you don't like Uselton's?
  4. I've lived all around the world and choose to make Nashville my home. I've lived in Tucson before and am familiar with Phoenix. The main differences will be in the following areas: Weather We get all 4 seasons. +1 to the humidity. 110 in the desert is hot, even if it is dry. 85 here with 90% humidity is just as taxing on your system. Snow won't be a problem for you. Just telecommute those 2-5 days each year where there's snow/ice on the roads. But you have to participate in the Kroger run. Kroger is a grocery store here (or to real sotherners, it's Krogers even though there's no S in the name). When the forecast says anything at all about snow, you have to go buy milk and bread, even if you don't need any. It's state law. Driving In Nashville, we use our Interstates. A lot. Phoenix and Tucson use a nice grid system where you can use surface streets more. Nashville is basically laid out like a wagon wheel that someone beat with a sledgehammer. Our hills prevent a real grid system outside of the downtown area. Some streets change names for no apparent reason. Old Hickory Blvd (known locally as OHB) is actually made up of about 3 or more different roads that sort of connect together if you can drive through a lake. So you and I can both be on OHB, but on opposite sides of town. We have lots of hills. Not the little steep ones like the foothills that take your stomach when you drive them. Bigger than that. Mostly it just means that you can't see more than a mile down the road to see what traffic's doing up ahead. Commuting here is easier than Phoenix. We're much lower on the gridlock scale. Be sure to let us know when you make the move. We can use that as a good reason to get a TGO meet going at a local range.
  5. I call BS on this. They're under 21 so they couldn't have purchased a handgun. And I'm pretty sure Silverado's is posted, so they couldn't have taken the guns in there even if they did have these phantom under-21 guns.
  6. Food Merridee's in Franklin is good food. HRH Dumplins is too. Both are close to the square. +1 for Fat Mo's burgers. Good burger, huge servings, great prices. I love to see when a legal immigrant comes here, works hard, and creates a succesful business. Things to Do Franklin has the Carter House and Carnton Plantation if you're interested in the Civil War battle of Franklin. I've heard the Franklin ghost walks are decent enough. Not New Orleans or Charleston, but not bad. The Predator's are in the NHL playoffs, if you can score some tickets. You could head out of Franklin west on Hwy96 then north on the Natchez Trace Pkwy until it ends. A great drive and The Loveless Cafe is there with yummy still-made-from-lard biscuits waiting for you. It shouldn't take more than about 20 minutes to make that drive each way.
  7. The same reason there were only 6 episodes.... budget. The 1st season was a feeler by AMC to see if there was a market for the show without spending too much money on it. Season 2 is reported to be a full season, which normally means between 20 and 25 episodes.
  8. Красная Армия принимает Берлине
  9. Has anyone in the Nashville area had a transfer switch installed on their home for a genny? I could do it myself, but Nashville Metro won't let me pull an electrical permit since I'm not a licensed electrician. I'm looking for a recommendation for an electrician to do the work.
  10. Ouch....my eyes! Could they make that website any uglier? Oh yeah, they added Justin Bieber pics to the top, so yeah, I guess they could. +1 to Magnum, P.I.
  11. The M&P OR model (Optics Ready) doesn't have a front post sight. It has a short rail where the front sight would go. That's the main difference between it and their standard flat top model as far as I can tell. It's ready for you to put on whatever sights you want. They simply offer it for customers who don't want the front post at all and are putting on their own front sight (like a Magpul flip up) or are going with optics only and no irons at all. I don't think I've ever seen Bud's take that one below it's current price of $799 and it's almost always the lowest priced M&P on there.
  12. Yes.
  13. Normally, no. Each policy can be different, so you'd have to read the fine print, but personal property usually isn't covered in an auto policy unless it is attached to the car in some way (like a custom TGO seatcover). You can sometimes get a rider on the policy that covers personal property in the vehicle against theft. I'm not sure how that might work in an accident. But all is not lost. Your homeowners or renters policy may very well cover it, but if your deductible is higher than the gun is worth, there's no sense in filing a claim.
  14. I don't believe this story one bit. Do you mean to tell us that you went to a picnic, ate food, and tossed a football around while armed and NOBODY was shot? I call on this one. I watch the news. I know how those things work. I bet you're one of those people that have those illegal hollow-point bullets in it. Seriously, congrats on exposing someone to the reality of safe gun ownership, even if you didn't mean to.
  15. I understand the pricing adjustment takes time. I wasn't mentioning it to say "come on man! everyone else is saying they're high. Why don't you have it fixed yet, 2 days later?" I was mentioning it more as an "I agree with the previous posters on this".
  16. I see a few listed on gunbroker right now from $150-$200, but they have 0 bids at those prices. You may want to watch those and see if any bids come in as the auctions get closer to their end date. That can give you an idea of the value. If they don't sell at all, then you can infer that those asking prices are too high. My gut feeling says that 56FordGuy is right on, but with auctions, you never know. You may have already seen it, but just in case, take a quick look at this sticky thread to keep from running into any TGO protocol violations and a subsequent thump upside the head from a Moderator. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handguns/33631-read-first-before-posting-how-much-my-gun-worth-thread.html

  18. ROFLMAO!!!! Dang it rebeldrummer! I just spit Coke all over myself.
  19. Review #2 I stopped in the store on Friday afternoon about 5:00'ish for the second chance. 2 people working the counters, both with customers. I didn't seek out GAD and let him know who I was. I wanted to see what Joe-blow customer would see, not what "monkeylizard, Internet critic with a personal invite back from the manager" would see. Another customer was looking at some holsters. Once one of the guys finished with his customer, I was asked if I would like to look at anything. He was friendly and engaging. I'd been in the store for about 5 minutes at that point and had browsed through every handgun in the cases. Twice. Still, it was an improvement over my first visit. Unless they get as busy as Guns & Leather on a Saturday at the Greenbriar store, there's no reason not to say "hi, if you need anything let us know" , or at least "Welcome to Guns and Ammo" as people come in the door. Always acknowledge the customer when she/he comes in. Just a tip to keep the service trending upwards. The guys and girls making my burrito still manage to shout out "Welcome to Moe's!" when I walk in and am #12 in line and they're elbow deep in tortillas and guacamole. GAD601, you guys have got to figure out how to source this stuff better so you can price it better if you're going to earn my business. I know what this stuff sells for at your competition. Even if customer service improves a lot (and I'll say that it's trending that way), pricing is going to keep me away. The type of inventory you're keeping puts you up against Nashville Sporting Arms, Guns and Leather, D&T, Goodlettsville Gun shop, Guns For America, etc. Then you have the online world of Bud's, GlockWorld, and Cheaper Than Dirt. With your used inventory, you're competing with all of the above, plus gunbroker.com, and sites like TGO that have a trading/selling forum for their members. You're also competing with Wal-Mart for mainstream caliber, target grade ammo. I know that's a tough one for anyone to come anywhere close to. I've not seen a shop yet that can do that on a regular basis (specialty/self-defense ammo excluded) but none of my regular stops have stuff that's way off of Wal-Mart's prices. I may have misread the tag, but I'm pretty sure I saw a box of Tula (or Wolf) .223 for $12.99. Please, correct me if I'm wrong about the price or the brand. That steel stuff is $3.99 online and around $5.99 at Wally World and Academy every day. Even if I was wrong and it was brass cased, $12.99 is still steep. Personally the only things I saw that I thought had a good price were the olive green ammo boxes. There was a good selection of holsters on the wall. I didn't look too closely as I'm not in the market for any right now, so I can't say anything about the brand(s) or prices. <<< I was re-reading this thread before hitting the POST button. ....GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY ! $40 for an FFL transfer? Really? >> This reinforces my point that you guys need to learn about the competition.
  20. I hope you have a comfy sofa to sleep on.....
  21. So it's "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" eh? Maybe I'll get my ears lowered and skip the second part of that OHB tour afterall.
  22. That would be www.budsgunshop.com I picked up my first 91/30 from Goodlettsville Gun Shop a few weeks ago. $100 out the door. I've seen similar specials at GnL and other local shops. They go fast. Watching the local dealers' forums on here can give you a heads up, or follow them on Facebook if they use it.
  23. Hmm....I need a haircut at Shane's place across the street some time soon anyway. Maybe I'll stop in. Not really in the market for anything right now, but I never mind taking a look.
  24. The UK's DailyMail has never been a reliable piece of in-depth journalism. They like to sensasionalize things. I'm reminded of the anti-sales tax rallies at the TN state house a few years back, where the vast majority was peaceful, but a few people got out of hand. In this case, 200 arrests out of 250,000 - 500,000 people is pretty small. Any large demonstration will always have its idiots. I'm glad to see that the majority of the people assembled peacefully to make a statement to their government. I don't agree with all of this group's points, but I'm still glad to see them voice their opinions to their government. I suspect that the BBC is keeping the riot story downplayed because they have a vested interest in the governemnet NOT cutting spending. They want the same thing that the mass of the rally wants. This is all coming out in part because the UK has some serious taxation issues. Their structure is different than ours, but in the end, I think it's the same underlying problem. Those who pay resent those who don't, and those who don't pay think they're entitled to what they get from those who do via their government doll. that goes both ways up and down the income spectrum. In this case, a lot of the unrest is about banks, and several other large corporations finding ways to hide their profits from taxation. So they get lots of government benefits without paying very much relative to what they earn. They're pretty keen on keeping things like they are. Now the UK government is looking at reducing the promised benefits to individuals because they can't afford to pay for them. It would be like finding your promised SS and Medicare benefits being reduced because the tax revenue won't support them (or in modern terms, finding that the tax scheme on your IRAs and 401(k)s has been changed to reduce what you get to have, but then finding out that (insert top largest bakns/corporations here) haven't paid a dime in taxes for 20 years. That's just one facet of what the UK is facing right now. The other side is the bloated retirement/public healthcare behemoth. You know...the spending side of that tax/spend equation. Boy am I glad we have our spending under control here in the U.S. of A. That reminds me...I need to order some more ammo.
