Becoming a state would give them 2 senators and some reps in the House. Right now they have one guy that can speak, but doesn't have any voting power. So they'd get to have more of a voice in the legislature. They'd also get to vote for POTUS, which they can't do now. I don't see PR becoming #51 in the very near future. The vote taken Tuesday can be interpreted different ways and it's not clear that it would be a popular move. But it's trending that way. Each time this comes up in PR, the vote leans a little more towards statehood. Once it gets closer to 60/40 or 70/30, I think we'll see Congress take up the issue. At a very slight majority in one election, I don't see it happening. Give it another 10-20 years and we'll probably have to get new flags.

Realistically, what are the odds going to be?
monkeylizard replied to Tedro2022's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
He can accomplish a lot through Executive Orders and departmental (EPA, BATFE, DHS, etc) regulation or through procedural techincalities. He doesn't need Congress. He did it with parts of his DREAM Act, appointed to the NLRB and CFPB without Senate approval, and effectively altered welfare work requirements. That said, his use of Executive Orders isn't way off the reservation established by his predecessors. If we knew what really went on in Washington, we'd storm the castle, with pitchforks and torches if necessary. -

While we're ranting (and I'm guilty of it myself), it could help to have the seller's location in the title or at least the body of the post. Browsing from mobile devices often doesn't show the location under the avatar.

Ex-Pat living sounds better every day. Now if I could just find a place that would let me bring my guns into their country....

Plus the GOP now has a super-majority in both parts of the TN legislature. If they'll elect some majority-leaders with some stones, we can see some good stuff come out of the capitol building over the next few years. No need to "reach across the aisle". The people have given them a pretty clear mandate: "Run your platform, not theirs." -
The supply/demand/production-capacity is why we have short-term shortages of specific calibers. One concern regarding the long-term implications of last night could be more expensive ammo beyond basic inflation or short-term shortages. With no change in control of the legislature last night*, Obama would likely have to use his executive powers to effectively create gun control laws. One way he might do that would be to have the EPA or BATFE ban or more heavily regulate chemicals/substances used in ammunition. If it suddenly costs Winchester et. al. more to produce, that gets passed along to us. How much shooting would you do if WWB was $30 a box? $50 a box? $75 a box? Don't say "I'd reload" because that powder may suddenly cost 10 times what it does today, and/or you might require a special license to buy it like the EPA did with certain types of A/C refrigerant. Or he may basically do what he has done these last 4 years...scare gun owners while not actually doing much of anything. Not for lack of desire, but for lack of importance or lack of will to expend political capital on it. I expect that the economy, budget, debt, unemployment, energy, and healthcare will be the main focus of his 2nd term, much like the 1st. But with no need to campaign again, specific issues like gun control, gay marriage, travel to Cuba, etc. could all be up for grabs. It's a matter of weighing risk with likelihood when determining if you should stock-up or not. *Obama wants to bring back the 1994 AWB and make it permanent. But there was a Dem House and Dem Senate at that time. Unless something happens with the mid-term elections, he won't get that luxury Bill Clinton had.
The question remains - if you have a HCP then under what legal authority can the police take your pistol?
Under TCA 39-17-1351 ( t )
Any law enforcement officer of this state or of any county or municipality may, within the realm of the officer's lawful jurisdiction and when the officer is acting in the lawful discharge of the officer's official duties, disarm a permit holder at any time when the officer reasonably believes it is necessary for the protection of the permit holder, officer or other individual or individuals. The officer shall return the handgun to the permit holder before discharging the permit holder from the scene when the officer has determined that the permit holder is not a threat to the officer, to the permit holder, or other individual or individuals provided that the permit holder has not violated any provision of this section and provided the permit holder has not committed any other violation that results in the arrest of the permit holder.
It's the "reasonably believes" part that's sketchy.

T-dog was already expendable. Then he was made more so by adding in another token black guy with muscles and little dialog. It was going to be him or the big inmate sooner or later. My money was on T-Dog because of the emotional investment viewers have in the original crew. If the inmate got it, it's not as impactful/dramatic. I agree that only Rick and Carl are safe. I don't think he'll become Shane 2.0 in the sense of becoming a sociopath, but I can see him cracking down on discipline in the group more.

Buyer Beware: Kwik at the Nashville Gun Show
monkeylizard replied to bigwakes's topic in General Chat
Kwik is a tool, but he's a law-abiding tool. His M.O. is to find the very edges of legality and then do exactly that and no more. Since that puts him in unusual territory (Radnor Lake and Belle Meade) it puts LE in a bad spot trying to figure out what he has done wrong. Then when it turns out the answer to that is "nothing" they let him go and he sues to get the laws changed. He somehow thinks it's going to loosen up the laws, but I have a suspicion that if he has any impact at all it will be to have them going the other way. For instance, instead of making the state agree that an AR pistol is indeed a pistol, and agreeing that it's A-OK to carry with an HCP (it currently is), he could have the affect of having the state pass laws making pistol versions of rifles not eligible under HCP rules. They could do that by specifying a maximum overall length that would keep them off limits but wouldn't affect any "normal" handgun. He doesn't seem to be able to see this, or doesn't care. Either way, he's a tool. I don't like his methods, but he's not stupid. He seems to know his laws. Still, poke the bear long enough and you're gonna get bit. -
I have one of those old spring loaded ones that jam spikes into the tunnel when tripped. It works. Setting is can be a delicate job. You have to remove a small top of the tunnel to get the trigger plate down inside, then push the trap in place, all while holding the spikes up and trying not to impale your own hand. then delicately replacing the dirt on the top of the tunnel. Mine looks more or less like this. In theory, the trigger plate sits on top of the tunnel and the mole moving through will push the ground up and set it off. I find that mine never works that way, thus the description above of getting the trigger inside the tunnel. My best advice is to look at some of the sites that sell C&R firearms (like aimsurplus). Check out the prices of things and decide how many of those you would actually buy during the life of the C&R. Don't count the things you'd like to have, but what you think you'd really purchase. Multiply that number by $25 (TICS and FFL fee if you didn't have a C&R). The difference between that and the C&R fee is your actual savings over paying for a transfer on every one. Then decide if that savings is worth (a) the privacy and (b ) needing to keep a simple bound book for C&R eligible items. It's different for everyone. I wouldn't bother with it if you'll only really pick up 2 or 3. Just pay the transfer and move on. If you buy gear/supplies/tools from Brownell's or Midway, they give C&R holders their dealer pricing, so that helps, but only if you actually shop there.

I don't think so. I would assume they've all been drinking it, but the Zs in the woods came after the Guv and his guys.

advice to husband on selling a few guns?
monkeylizard replied to robert45's topic in Women's Perspectives
There's nothing wrong with that. I've bought several from a trunk. I've done several deals via the TGO classifieds. It's the only way I'll buy/sell via the web. You can always put something in your TGO ad stating that the buyer must have been a TGO member for at least 6 months, or have over 150 posts, or have an iTrader rating of at least 4. Or other things like that. Then you know at least that you're not dealing with some completely random person who found the site and your ad via a Google search and just joined up to buy it. Be sure to clarify in your ad if you will require an HCP or a Bill of Sale. You can always ask for one during a transaction, but if you're going to require it, be up front about it. -
Congratulations. Now it's the end of an inning with a star! Thank you for your service

I'm interested too. I took the self-defense class at Vol State and learned a few things. I know there's always more to know. -

So....I'm hoping Aaron and Nora were smart enough to keep their "dueling" pistols. Once again, those pine forests of Northern Indiana make an appearance. Dirty people make for bad TV. Unless it's Dirty Jobs.

Admiral relieved of command. Makes me wonder more...
monkeylizard replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I see a run for Congress in his future. The person being relieved of command over Benghazi is a general. The admiral mentioned in the article is apparently unrelated to Benghazi. Since your OP linked the removal from command to ordering a response during Benghazi, I was just pointing out that the admiral isn't necessarily a part of that move, but the general is.
