  That impression would be wronger than a wrong thing that is mistaken. Sort of and maybe   A tent meets the defnition of a "habitation" defined in 39-14-401 regarding burglary and such. There is no such defnition of "residence" in 39-17-1301. It may or may not be a residence for using the 1308 defense. even if tent = residence then you could only legally have the firearm loaded inside the tent, and not in the campsite or on the way to-from your car and tent.   HCP makes it all so much simpler.

  Dispatching two-legged critters would not be "incident to" fishing. The defense in 1308 against a weapons charge in 1307 for the gar probably wouldn't hold up without an HCP unless it could be shown that you were indeed dispatching those nasty gar with your pistola.   All other "discharging of a firearm" laws would still apply and if you're shooting the fish there may be another law (or local ordinance) that you could be crossing.

  It's a defense to a "weapon" not specifically a firearm. Weapon in this case (39-17-1307) = firearm, club, or knife with blade over 4"   For fishing it could be a fileting knife over 4", or maybe you bonk the catfish over the head with a club. Either is "incident to" fishing.

If you happened to be there for one of the many trail maintenance days and were using a machette to clear back some brush, that's fine. There's nothing in 39-17-1301 (definitions) for "lawful activity" so I think it would be anything you can legally do with a device defined as a weapon in 1307 (a firearm, a knife with a blade length exceeding 4'', or a club).   A sword fighting class might be an example of "other lawful activity".   Keep in mind that the defence you're focusing on in 1308 is only if posession is "incident to" the activity. A firearm while camping w/o an HCP is a no-no as a firearm is not incident to camping, but a machette for chopping firewood would be fine. You probably know that, but I don't want anyone coming along and reading that snippet of 39-17-1308 and thinking they're good to go for camping without an HCP.

  I wasn't referring to things like voting, having reasoned discussions with others, campaigning for the right people, etc. We should very much be involved in those things as small percantages can have a big impact. I was replying to a boycott of the mass media. The people willing to do that are like many of us and are already not watching MSNBC. To the majority of America, ABC/NBC/CBS evening news or CNN/MSNBC can be trusted. There may be some idea in their minds that one or more of them are biased one way or another or have/had reporters/anchors that may or may not have been in some kind of trouble in the past, but it's not important enough for them to bother learning or caring which ones are worse than the others. They'll watch whichever comes on after whatever show they were watching before, assuming they don't change over to reruns of How I Met your Mother or Two And a Half Men. Any change would be negligible.   They'll face more troubles from failing to change with the demographics than by any kind of conservative boycott. Don't forget that some people get their news from such reputable sources as Conan's monologue.

That only works en masse. The couple % of the population that's paying attention wouldn't make a dent.

The class has pretty much the same information as his book The Total Money Makeover without as many example stories but with more detail. In class you can ask questions. There are guides in the book to help you build a budget, but the class will help you do it in more detail for example. It also helps to keep you honest by making you do the materials for class, rather than buying the book, reading chapter 1, then burying it on the coffee table under the newspaper. The class materials can be worked on together with your wife and you'll have conversations as you work through it. Reading the book doesn't generate that interaction.    Personal finance is mostly about behavior, not math. Remember that you're trying to change behavior, not learn something you already know. If the class will help force you to do it, then take the class. Money well spent.   We're on Step 6 and I'm really looking forward to Step 7. It's a great way to live and I'll never go back if I can help it.     As far as credit score goes, if you're on the Dave plan, you'll only be financing your first home, and then on a 15yr fixed with at least 10% down (preferrably 20%) and NO OTHER DEBT. If you show up at a bank with 20% in cash, a steady income, and no other debt, they'll do a manual underwriting to get that loan approved. You don't need a FICO score for that.

  You won't if you really follow Dave Ramsey's teachings. Keeping a good credit score "just in case" is sort of like keeping that pack of Oreos on the top shelf of the pantry while starting a diet.

I'm wondering if it was on a shelf in a safe and the door opened (triggers the motion sensor) would it transmit the photo(s) before the thief has time to grab the camera and pull it out from its power supply.

  I know, but Vontar was questioning how we get 32 gun deaths/day and used that chart as evidence that it's not true. After doing some more research, my numbers above are flawed, and this is how you'd get to 32/day.   Numbers from 2007: 31,224 firearm-related deaths (Total) 17,352 suicides (55.6%) 12,632 homicides(40.5%)   12,632 / 365 = 34.6 per day. Given variations in the total deaths each year, whoever claimed 32 was just looking at a different year, but it's certainly not a crazy number.   Notice that's only homicides. Total gun deaths per day in 2007 were 31,224 / 365 = 85.5 per day.   That doesn't include non-fatal shootings, which were happening at a rate of about 207.35 per day in 2000 (52,447 intentional + 23,237 accidental = 75,684 / 365 = 207.35). I don't know how that has changed in the past 12 years, but I don't think it's drastic one way or another. We've tended to have a generally declining rate of gun violence, but not a steep decline.

Vontar, that chart is misleading if you're using it to discuss murder by guns, as it does not include handguns. It's not 32/day though, even with handguns factored in. In 2010, we had 6,009 deaths using pistols (incl. suicides and accidents). That's about 16.5/day. Add in the 320 or so with rifles and about the same with shotguns, and we're still under 20/day. I agree that a ban on semi-auto rifles is silly given the statistics.
