  1. So if it doesn't work its way up to SCOTUS (or Congress acts), one could still be charged under 39 CFR 232.1 in a parking lot, but when challenged in court, you could use the precedent as part of your defense?
  2. So how does this work? The USC still has the parking lots as off limits of course. Does this court ruling automatically override that, effective immediately?
  3.   I'm guessing that if you had seen the price you would understand why it was "sitting around for a little longer".   Locally, I see nothing. Getting some decent prices online from time to time. Every few weeks I'll see 1,000 round packs for a decent price but you have to be fast. It helps to subscribe to email alerts and to follow certain shops/sites on Facebook. for every 5 deals I see, 4 are sold out by the time I get to them. The better the deal and the more popular the site, the faster it sells out.
  4. Check YouTube for your specific make and model. Chances are someone will have posted how to completely disassemble one. If you're handy with a small screwdriver you can probably do it yourself. The process is much more mechanical than technical. Here's one for replacing a fan, but he pretty much completely disassembles it to get there. Watch it and see if it's something you think you can handle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8IbxsDsjEU   I'd look for a loose connection first. There's going to be a ribbon cable connecting the monitor to the motherboard or graphics card. There are likely some small clips holding it in place at each end. Even if it doesn't feel loose, open the clips, remove the cable, reinsert the cable and lock up the clips. Besides the hassle of getting to that point, this is the simplest and cheapest (no cost) thing that may fix it.   If that doesn't help, then TankerHC's probably right about changing the motherboard (mobo). No need to backup for this. Well, no more than usual. You ARE doing backups, right?   The mobo is the main circuit board that holds the processor. Everything else (drives, cards, USB ports, etc.) plugs into it. Many today (esp. laptops) have the "cards" built right in so there's no extra card for the sound, graphics, network, etc. It's all in one. If you're changing it, you remove all the attached pieces from the old mobo and reattach them to the new one once it's installed. Since your drives don't change, no need to do an extra backup.
  5. I'm celebrating with a bacon sammich.
  6. Mac, that's one of the funniest stories around. The first time I read it a few years ago I had to read it in sections. About every 5 lines I was laughing so hard I couldn't read.   Buffets are N A S T Y.
  7. Please tell me those suspenders are just face paint and not real ink....
  8. The thread on tattoos becoming so much more common lately got me thinking about bad tats. I thought it might be fun to see some truly bad ink. It could be a funny spelling error, bad likeness, or something that looks like a 3rd grader did it. It can be a photo you've seen of someone else's ink, or it could be one of your own that came out worse than you had planned. I'll start out with this one. It's one of my all time favorites. What? It's a baby's hand holding mommy's finger. What did you think it was?
  9. Weapons laws are in 39-17-13xx in the TN Code linked above. Self defense laws are in 39-11-6xx. What is sometimes called "castle doctrine" is covered (with other things) in 39-11-611. It's important to note where the law says "force" and where it says "deadly force" (or "force intended or likely to cause death or serious bodily injury"). They're very different.    There could be some others that I'm not recalling at the moment. I'm not a lawyer and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  10. What OS said.   The basis for it is TCA 39-17-1307 which says no carrying of firearms with the intent to go armed (amongst other things). Other 39-17-13xx statutes make exceptions for that (like lawful hunting, HCP, at your own home/business, LEOs, etc.).
  11.   Yeah...he should totally start with that excuse when she gets home....
  12. If two is one and one is none, just think about where she keeps her backup.
  13. You can call to find out if they can/will reinstate without going through it all again since it didn't expire due to age.   From the TDOS website on HCP:   Program Director, Lisa Knight 1150 Foster Avenue Nashville, TN 37243 (615) 251-8590 http://www.tn.gov/safety/handgunmain.shtml
  14. So the next time you see one of these at a gun show, ask yourself where it may have been.....
  15. My favorites from the comments so far:   Gunorhea Sixcooter The handgun, which was disassembled by cops, is seen in the above left evidence photo...I bet the new guy got that job
  16. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/loaded-gun-in-vagina-sentencing-576342   The story is funny, but the comments are fantastic.
  17. And that's why the only naked women in my pool are the ones I pay to be there!
  18. I don't think that was their intent. More likely, the rangers want to work in a building that doesn't stink of stale urine and turds.
  19. The restrooms aren't posted. Even at the main center at Sugarlands, the restrooms (not posted) are outside the visitor center (posted). I don't know of any posted buildings that have the restrooms inside.   Get your bear spray at any sporting goods store.   If you don't have your kids with you, then definitely look over the hiking trail guide I posted earlier. It does a great job of ranking the difficluty so you can find some that are right for you.   There's also the casino at Cherokee.
  20. I'm pretty sure that NC has open carry without a permit. Some exceptions, but that's mostly true. That's how OPEN CARRY dot org comes up with their ratings and why NC get's the gold star from them. Concealing requires a permit.   By and large, unless you're doing some crazy back country trails, it's TN up to Newfound Gap, and NC on the other side of Newfound Gap. the road spur leading up to Clingman's Dome stradles the line.   Here's the official park map. Notice that except for a small corner in the western point, the AT follows the state line, so you can use the bright yellow line as your state line guide. If I recall correctly, the parking lot and ranger station/gift shop is in NC but the observation deck on the summit is in TN. http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/upload/grsmmap-edit-2.pdf   Either way, we have reciprocity with NC and their laws are pretty much the same as ours for what the casual visitor will see.
  21. I picked up most of the gear I'll need, but still haven't started taking classes yet. I did loads of snorkeling in Hawaii last month and loved it. If we had stuff like that here I'd need a second job to pay for all my air tank fill-ups.
  22. GSMNP is one of the most car-centic parks in the NPS system. You do not have to haul your kids on miles of trails through the woods to see the good stuff.   Newfound Gap, Clingman's Dome (The parking lot views are great. Haul your kids to the top only if you like to punish yourself), Cade's Cove, and my personal favorite, Roaring Fork. Plenty of little pull outs to get out of the car and enjoy the stream and woods. I enjoyed Hungry Bear BBQ which is located just outside the exit of Roaring Fork.   I love this site for finding trails that meet a person's needs/capabilities. http://www.hikinginthesmokys.com/difficulty.htm   One of the shortest and flatest trails in GSMNP is the Spruce-Fir on the way up to Clingman's Dome. You'll see a little pullout on the left with a trail head style nature sign. That's it. It goes back into a spruce forest . Beautiful.   +1 to Laurel Falls on the way to/from Cade's Cove. The trail is paved all the way up to the falls so you can push a stroller. It's uphill and I personally wouldn't want to do that, but I saw plenty of parents with their younguns doing it. If you can keep going up the unpaved trail after the falls, you'll find yourself in some fantastic old-growth forest. The sinks are also on that road and impossible to miss.   As for non-GSMNP stuff, you'll have plenty to do with the kids in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Your wallet will hate you but your kids will love you...until you say no to doing "just one more.....pleeeeeeeease". +1 to Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg. It's quite good.
