  1. No, you wouldn't be charged, well not for violating any part of 39-17-13xx. TCA is pretty clear on that.   TCA 39-17-1322 says:       "part" refers to 39-17-13, so it applies to any 13xx.
  2. Carrabba's is owned by the same comapny that owns Outback, Fleming's, and Bonefish. They all have the same wishy-washy signage. My wife likes Carrabba's too much for me to make that a fight worth having.
  3.   That would be incorrect. From TCA 39-17-1359       In the case of Thoroughbred, you could legally carry through the front doors, but not beyond the ticket booth, assuming the content of their posting would hold up under a 39-17-1359 challenge. If the content wouldn't hold up, the sign might as well say "have a nice day". We won't know until it hits a court case, and so far there haven't been any volunteers.
  4.   Yep, that's what the man said. TCA 39-17-1352 requires that the HCP be suspended or revoked for a conviction of 39-17-1351 through 39-17-1360, which of course includes 39-17-1359, the statute on posting.   If I recall correctly, the wording in 39-17-1359 replaced an old statute that was more vague in its posting requirements. 39-17-1359 says the posting has to be plainly visible, located at every entrance used by the public, and must contain either the circle & slash "gunbuster", or language substantially similar to a phrase provided in 1359 that specifically cites TCA 39-17-1359. In other words, "no guns allowed" doesn't meet the content requirement of 39-17-1359.   When OS says that there's nothing that says you can't get popped for a 1359 violation even with an improper sign, it's because 1359 leaves out a clause that is found in the federal code. In 18 USC 930 it says at the end in section (h)       It's sort of a mixed bag. The USC doesn't have specific language requirements, but does say that if what posting requirements it does list aren't met, then no conviction. TCA has very specific requirements, but doesn't have the get out of jail free card. Without case law, we really don't know how a 39-17-1359 violation might go down if the sign in question didn't meet the content requirements, or what exactly "plainly visible" means.   A simple reading of the law would say that a normal person going about their normal behavior would see the sign and that it would be a gunbuster OR have the legalese language which also cites TCA 39-17-1359. i would expect a defense lawyer to use the fact that 39-17-1359 replaced the earlier vagueness to show that the legislature did very much intend to standardize how a public facility may properly post and that they should have to comply with the content and location requirements of the law. I would equally expect that a prosecutor would use the fact that "no guns allowed" is pretty dang self explanatory. Until we have an actual case, we won't know which side has the better lawyer.
  5. I think any response you get here will be very skewed. By virtue of it being a gun board, pretty much every LEO member here is by definition a gun enthusiast. You might be surprised at how few LEOs fit that category. Lots of cadets have never fired a weapon before they get to their police academy training and don't get bit by the gun bug. Their duty weapon is all they own and they only shoot enough to qualify.   ETA: cross-post

  7. Besides the tactical issues, don't forget that if you are involved in an SD shoot, no matter how clean you think it is, you could face charges if the DA thinks otherwise, even if it's in your own home. Consider how the weapon used by you will play before a jury of non-gun-lovin' people.   Whatever you decide, create a plan and practice it.
  8. You're good to go for an in-person buy of long guns in TN from an FFL. No special TN state restrictions.
  9. Now's a good time to be looking. From now through November, you'll start seeing things go on sale as the 2014 models come out.   +1 to a real bike shop.
  10. He forgot his green sock that day.
  11. I know, right? So how many TGO'ers think it would be cool to build a machete slingshot after seeing that picture? I'm guessing "more than half." I love this place.
  12. That rules out weed and those glitter boots I mentioned. Must be a machete slingshot.
  13.   The cake is a lie.     I'm going with a pair of Sir Elton John's platform glitter boots.
  14. There is a "phc" member, but hasn't been active since 2008. Perhaps you could PM that user and maybe they'll get an email telling them they have a TGO message. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/user/2013-phc/

    advice needed

I had an LCP and got rid of it for a Kahr PM9. Much happier with the Kahr. I also have a G26. I can tell the difference between the two and prefer the Kahr, but sometimes I like those extra rounds in the G26. I carry both in Remora holsters.
  16. The best gun club in Nashville is in Gallatin. It's a private club with a couple of trap stands and a handgun/rifle range out to 300 yards. Membership is closed, but you can get on a waiting list. It hasn't been taking too terribly long to get through the list lately. The best skeet/trap/sporting clays range is the Nashville Gun Club. It's a lot more expensive than Gallatin GC and doesn't have handgun or rifle facilities. South of town in Spring Hill is CHMR, a private range with unlimited membership count. It's the cheapest, but gets busy on the weekends. It's pistol and handgun out to 100 yards and there are a couple of spring-loaded clay throwers in a side area. The nicest range is run by the TWRA and it's Stones River Hunter Education Center. It's only open weekends, gets very busy, and has loads of novice shooters. It goes to 200 yards on the rifle side and it's all concrete pad so you don't get muddy changing targets. There are also a few indoor ranges, but are more expensive and shorter of course.   www.gallatingun.com www.nashvillegunclub.com
  17. If you'll be flying a lot, consider proximity to Nashville. There are several non-stop flights from Nashville to several Florida airports with Southwest Airlines.
  18.   If you're only in the "general services district" your property taxes are lower than on property in an "urban services district." USD gets trash pickup and better street lights (and can have likker stores). You may not be paying for someone else's services after all.   http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/city-news/metros-two-tiered-revenue-system-raises-taxing-questions
  19. I'm betting on 2am boredom creating a phishing expedition. The bulb out was reason enough to make the stop. Then it's time to play "what's inside car #1?"
  20. What OS said. If you want to change your furniture on your AK rifle and keep it a rifle that's not an SBR (change your 90's AWB workaround rifle into one that looks like a regular AK), then look at the rules for 922r. X# of US made parts. Plenty of threads here and on other forums about the most convenient parts to change out. It may already be 922r compliant, but had the thumbhole stock to not run afoul of the old AWB.   If you want to change your AK rifle into an AK pistol, I don't think there's a legal way to do that.
  21. Ah. I was thinking like Hershmeister; Zombieland rules for surviving the zombie apocalypse. Rule #4 is "Always wear your seatbelt".
  22.   Yeah, I'm trying to figure that one out too.
  23. Requirements You can sell to any resident of your state in a face-to-face transaction so long as you do not have knowledge of them being prohibited from owning a firearm. You can sell to a non-prohibited resident of any state if the firearm passes through an FFL in their state (and that state doesn't prohibit that particular firearm).   Practical Matters You don't have to use an FFL for same-state transfers, but you can. If you want to do that, make that clear in your listing and say who will pay the transfer and TICS fees. If you sell to an out of state buyer, some FFLs will only accept shipments from another FFL. That means you have to involve a dealer here to do the shipment to your buyer's FFL. Not a big deal, but it adds cost. You can hand-deliver the firearm to the buyer's FFL if the FFL will allow that. No bill of sale (BOS) is necessary. If you feel like you need one, then make that clear up front. Some buyers won't do a purchase with them. Others won't do a purchase without them. Others don't care. If you meet face to face, be careful. Choose a well lit and populated place if you're dealing with someone you don't know. If possible, bring an armed friend who knows how to watch over a deal. Some sellers only sell to HCP holders for face-to-face deals. If you want that, say so in your listing. If an FFL is involved, who cares. California's laws are screwy. Some sellers won't sell to a CA buyer. By their laws, the seller can be guilty of a crime and have never stepped foot in the state.   How to find a buyer Become a TGO Benefactor and list it in the TGO Trading Post Gunbroker.com Armslist.com Become a TGO Benefactor and list it in the TGO Trading Post Go to a gun show and sell it there   Craigslist and eBay do not allow firearms, but you'll still find them sometimes on CL, if you're fast, before a moderator kills the listing.     Personal Opinion - Worth what you paid for it. I only buy/sell with someone I know personally or with a real TGO member or at a gun show with plenty of witnesses who aren't scared by seeing a gun sale. In my opinion, it's perfectly reasonable to state who you will/won't deal with in your ad, but be clear about it. It's your gun and it's your safety involved. It wouldn't be unreasonable in my opinion to state that you'll only sell to TGOers who have been members for X months or more, or who have Y number of iTrader positives, or have Z number of posts or more. This is an open Internet forum. Having a TGO account doesn't mean a lot to me. Being a long standing member, being an active member, or having positive reviews from other active/long standing members goes a long way with me. If a buyer doesn't meet those requirements, then it can go through an FFL of their choice. After the Nashville West incident, it's just not worth it to me to not have some good idea of who I'm dealing with. I'll pay the transfer fee to an FFL before I'll meet someone I don't know at some random parking lot who just joined TGO and has 1 post saying "I'll take it".   A phone call to set up the meet can tell you a lot more than PMs, texts, and e-mails. Sometimes it just doesn't "feel" right.
